thrash metal and there are 2 big four... the american and teutonic (teutonic include tankard, kreator, sodom and destruction) there are no big 4 of heavy metal
Megadeth has been one of the best bands. A very distinctive and consistent sound that has never strayed far from their core that made them what they are.
My favorite Megadeth songs: Obviously Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Take No Prisoners, Rust In Peace, In My Darkest Hour, Sweating Bullets, Foreclosure of A Dream, Skin on My Teeth, Head Crusher, 1320, Public Enemy Number 1, The Threat Is Real, Conquer or Die
You're correct. This is actually two songs smushed together. Dave had the song Holy Wars, about well, religious war, and a second song about the comic book character The Punisher. …but he didn't think either was a complete song, so they combined them and added the last bit to it. So it ended up being three partial songs combined into one masterpiece.
The first part is actually about when he had been to screwed up and started a rage fest by making comments about Ireland's segregation between the north and the south and the band had to be taken away in an armoured bus to avoid being killed.

"The next thing you know they'll take my thoughts away" ~ Dave Mustaine from "Holy Wars". Hmm, kinda sounds like what we are living through today (1984). Mega-Dave was pretty prophetic, eh?
That was preceded by Peace Sells which Dave talks about the uselessness of the United Nations, and also Dystopia from 2016 which again he clearly is a visionary in how lyrically that album applies to current day society. Mr. Mustaine has ALWAYS been ahead of the curve and musically a premier songwriter.
Prophetic perhaps. But don't forget in the early nineties there was an awareness of the "thought police" going on with Leftist politics. The late great Rush Limbaugh was talking about it around the same time. It also tied in with the first Gulf War
I find it funny how both Dave and James Hetfield never really wanted to be singers when forming their bands, yet became two of the best metal frontmen ever and have some of the best lyrics
This song comes from the best Thrash album of all time. Yes I’m saying Rust in Peace is better than my #2 album Master of Puppets. Megadeth is one of those 80s bands that still hits now. A lot of 80s bands and songs we’re formulaic for the time but Megadeth was on some other level shit with Good Morning Black Friday, Peace Sells, and my favorite off the Peace Sells album The Conjuring. Dave’s. Vocals have been criticized and bashed mostly by Mettwlixa fans but also by metal fans in general, but I disagree because his vocals are the reason they are different and have their own sound and in my opinion for their songs and style his voice fits like a glove. Can you imagine hearing Peace Sells or 5 Magics with James Hetfield singing and shredding? I don’t think he can but Dave most definitely can. Great reaction 👍

Fun fact: Dave wrote 'Polaris' and 'Hangar 18' from this album before he joined Metallica, while in his first band Panic, as well as 'Mechanix' (the four horsemen) and 'Jump in the fire' from Metallicas Kill em all album.
I absolutely loved watching your reaction. That was something huh !! Megadeth have a huge catalog of amazing songs like that one. In fact , that whole album Rust in Peace , is amazing.
First time here and I am now a new subscriber. I have been a Megadeth fan for years with 24 live shows under my belt. I loved watching your reaction to this video/song. BTW, I love your shirt as I am a US Army Veteran :). Thanks so much for sharing :). Welcome to "MEGADETH WORLD" :).

That brought a tear to my eye remembering how free I felt when I first heard them. Megadeth has been with me through thick and thin, it was fun watching your face, I could tell you were filling up up with ideas! The videos for Go To Hell Hangar 18 and Peace Sells will probably be fun for you. Have a good time
Fun reaction to watch and it is very refreshing to know that young adults including yourself have taken a great liking in heavier music and music that required an insurmountable block of time to create. Despite being a major music lover, player and critic, I actually heard elements of "Holy Wars...The Punishment Due" that I hadn't picked up on before (I've listened to this song and the rest of the Rust In Peace record dozens of times and yet still discover the little music nuances that are intentional). As for other Megadeth records, try out Peace Sells, But Who's Buying?, So Far, So Good...So What?, Countdown To Extinction, Youthanasia, The System Has Failed, United Abominations, Endgame and Dystopia. Imo, Megadeth has been pretty consistent regarding solid quality material, but have made a couple of fluke records and some decent records in b/t the aforementioned ones. I absolutely love Megadeth AND Metallica (do not read deeply into the Metallica vs Megadeth feud that is fueled by internet trolls and insecure jerks out there!) They are both awesome bands in there own rights, plus they are very different musically! While I'm on the subject of Metallica, check out there first 5 albums at least. I also think Load & Reload have a good amount of solid tracks though those records are a bit bloated and stray away from their thrash metal style imo. Then there are Death Magnetic (a return to form) and Hardwired to Self Destruct (a little better production and more balanced but bloated), which I really enjoy as well despite some production quality flaws.
The whole "Rust In Peace" album is excellent. It's one of my favorite things to listen to on road trips. If you want a specific recommendation for a future reaction, I'd say "Tornado of Souls."
One word to describe this song would be perfection. It's almost like a rhapsody because of all the tempo changes a rhythm changes. I've seen Megadeth several times in concert and they're even better live.
@@realeyesrealizereallies1176 Taking a bit of influence is not ripping off man. Pantera's sound is 100% unique to them, and innovative. There's a reason Exhorder didn't go far like Pantera.
Shea gives me hope for the younger generation. I see lots of reaction videos where young people are digging the musicianship behind the older songs. I was in high school when this album came out and it blew me away.
This is the opening track of one of the greatest albums ever written in metal. This, Master of Puppets by Metallica and Reign in Blood by Slayer are eseentially masterpieces and genre defiining works. Dave's voice has never really about the melody, it's about his delivery, his snarl, the venom, the contempt, the rage that he pours into every syllable.
I saw Megadeth on American Carnage. Dave walked out on stage, leaned into the mic, said "We all know why we're here tonight. Here we go...." then started Holy Wars.... They played Rust in Peace cover to cover. Slayer played Seasons cover to cover after a couple songs from World Painted Blood.
@@skinnyb8230 Similar experience with them years back when Dave had recovered the use of his hand after that nerve damage. Came on stage, played 3 songs, said, "Doctors said I'd never play again... Well..." and launched into a 1.5 hr brutality session with no chat between songs. Literally melted my face off!
@@farn451 Yep Dave didn't say anything else during their set until they were finished with Rust in Peace. I met him earlier that day at his book signing so I have a signed copy of his autobiography.

Yeah, because MTV said it was about suicide. Yet, they named Kurt Cobain "Man of The Year" in 1994. I'm not hating on Kurt but MTV should have been more consistent about this stuff.
Yes… this is a classic metal song for a good reason. It has everything… instrumental intro, two solos, a bridge, shredding, and that drumming!!! He was so talented. And Dave Mustaine multitasks with the guitar and vocals. All of these guys were very talented musicians. It’s rare that musicians that are so good cross paths & collaborate. Many bands only one or two people stand out. All of these guys were good.
You *HAVE* to listen to tornado of souls, the solo is pretty much considered as the best metal solo *ever* Songs like Symphony of destruction, Lucretia and hanagr 18 are also classics, from the “new” 2016 album - dystopia they have grammy winning title track (dystopia) and they also have great instrumental featuring their new guitarist Kiko Louirero
One of the best metal songs by one of the best metal bands. Always thought they should have been bigger, and way bigger than metallica. My humble opinion.
Just saw Megadeth play live two weekends ago. They play this spot on perfect live as well. It's amazing what Dave can play and sing over. Some of their rhythm tracks are harder than some band's solos.

Loved your post. It's not often you get a person who can appreciate all styles. People stick to what they love and are afraid to expand. It's not often Zeppelin and Megadeth get mentioned in the same breath. Even though I saw an interview where Dave Mustaine was praising Jimmy Page and his overall abilities. To me Zeppelin are the greatest ever. Nobody touches them. I love Megadeth too. It's night and day from Zeppelin, but the power they both possess is crazy. Megadeths lyrics are brilliant and alot of them are political. Mustaine is a genius. Love Pearl Jam. Saw them twice and it was epic. Van Halen is where I break off, but hey, we can't agree on everything! Ha. Ha. Of course Eddie was brilliant on guitar. RIP. I just didn't really get into them. There’s a live performance of tornado of souks, with Marty Friedman on guitar. It’s awesome…
I think they were at their best with Marty.
Probably one of the most complicated songs as well!!! It has so many intricacies!! Minor and Major bouncing off each other, crazy!!
Freaking Nick live. He beat F out of his drums.
From the same album (Rust In Peace) :
- Tornado Of Souls
- Take No Prisoners
- Rust In Peace (Polaris)
- Poison Was The Cure
Poison was the cure is incredible! The whole album actually.
Hangar 18
"rust in peace" is one of the greatest thrash metal albums of all time, I remember when it hit back in 1991, it blew us all away👍🤘🎸
They are one of the big 4 in heavy metal, and a common thread with all 4 is that they allow the song to establish before vocals come in. Wonderful reaction.
Thrash metal
thrash metal and there are 2 big four... the american and teutonic (teutonic include tankard, kreator, sodom and destruction)
there are no big 4 of heavy metal
Megadeth has been one of the best bands. A very distinctive and consistent sound that has never strayed far from their core that made them what they are.
My favorite Megadeth songs:
Obviously Holy Wars, Hangar 18, Take No Prisoners, Rust In Peace, In My Darkest Hour, Sweating Bullets, Foreclosure of A Dream, Skin on My Teeth, Head Crusher, 1320, Public Enemy Number 1, The Threat Is Real, Conquer or Die
You forgot Tornado Of Souls and Symphony Of Destruction.
Megadeth - Good Mourning/Black Friday >>>>>>>>
Wake Up Dead is definitely a must
Too many to name them all. I love Megadeth.
I also like Lucretia and the killing road
You're correct. This is actually two songs smushed together. Dave had the song Holy Wars, about well, religious war, and a second song about the comic book character The Punisher. …but he didn't think either was a complete song, so they combined them and added the last bit to it. So it ended up being three partial songs combined into one masterpiece.
The first part is actually about when he had been to screwed up and started a rage fest by making comments about Ireland's segregation between the north and the south and the band had to be taken away in an armoured bus to avoid being killed.
Masterpiece? Funny. One of their worst songs. Sounds bad to the ears and has zero symmetry and flow like an actual song.
@@WheresWaldo05 Oh man, I feel so bad… Did you not know? I hate to be the first person to tell you… there's gonna be people with different opinions than you. …and some gongs are not gonna follow the rules. Life's gonna be rough if you can't let that kind of stuff go.
…and you should probably avoid the Queen song Bohemian Rhapsody. That's a medley of like 4 or 5 song fragments smushed together.
In my opinion, the best Megadeth lineup ever that Dave Mustaine assembled. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
For me, Poland, Mustaine, Ellefson, Samuelson is the untouchable one
@@Martin-1973Marty were on another level. No way Poland can compete with him.
This is almost a hymn of Heavy Metal music. Amazing piece of art.
Dave may just be a modern prophet
I find it funny how both Dave and James Hetfield never really wanted to be singers when forming their bands, yet became two of the best metal frontmen ever and have some of the best lyrics
Tornado of souls
Wake up dead
She wolf
Peace sells
Rust in peace
Vortex
The conjuring
Dave's solo Guitar is just insane!!!!
Sounds just as good live as well. So tight and consistent
You picked one of the best metal songs w the best Megadeth line up, period. Fan since '89🤘🤘
This song comes from the best Thrash album of all time.
Kreator are the best thrash band. Hear their songs from 85-90. Tormentor or Flag of hate.
Rust in Peace is the greatest metal album of all time.
Sepultura Beneath The Remains, best thrash metal album ever, second Ride the Lightning by Metallica
@@Skull7727 Ride the Lightning is not even Metallica's best metal album. Sepultura is a great band but I will take Rust in Peace over Beneath the Remains which is a great album. All good shit.
@@Joepacalypse1107 Sorry for me Ride the lightning is the best, I can listen to songs like Creeping Death, Fade to Black, For Whom Bell Tolls any day, and Sepultura unique sounds in Beneath the remains...Rust in Peace is no 10 in my list.
Love seeing newer generations getting hip to some Thrash!!!
Dave is the best guitarist Metallica had.
Respect to Dave but.....No way.
Kill em all, dave wrote em all
Dave is an amazing guitar player and songwriter... for Megadeth. Metallica wouldn't be the Metallica we know if Dave had stuck around.
ONLY ONE!!! He is THE BEST!!!
You know that’s not true. Why troll?
I've listened to this song thousands of times and it still blows me away. It's just unbelievable how good this damn song is
There are so many good ones but personally would love to see peace sells, symphony of destruction, sweating bullets awesome reaction love the content and late congrats on the new place!
I reacted like that, back in the 80's, when I first heard Metallica. Then I found Megadeth. They are my two favorites. Megadeth is my #1 today.
Lucky to have seen them in the mid 90’s in their prime, front row in a small convention center in Anchorage Alaska! Priceless!😉👍
Shit how many ppl were there?😂
I got to see them at a small venue in Charlotte NC and they sounded amazing and killed it. Highlight was the whole crowd singing along to peace sells
🤘Megadeth Rules, Real Thrash metal🤘
Awesome song by Megadeth
They many, many killers like Peace Sells,Symphony of destruction and many others 🤘🤘
Tornado 😍
Love watching reaction videos to this tune because everyone gets blown away by it no matter their musical taste. probably the best metal song ever written
what you pointed out...that's probably the world's biggest breakdown in music ever 🤘
Pantera domination live in Moscow is the biggest.
Drummer is Nick Menza RIP....after Megadeth, he walked offstage after a performance, had a heart attack and died
30+ years after this song‘s creation every single bit of its subject matter has come true!!
This song is a Masterpiece…
so glad the younger generation is discovering Megadeth. I grew up on them.
Dave singing while playing those rhythm parts is incredible
You need to hear Victim of Changes live at Seminole Hard Rock Arena; brutal performance!
Fun fact: Dave wrote 'Polaris' and 'Hangar 18' from this album before he joined Metallica, while in his first band Panic, as well as 'Mechanix' (the four horsemen) and 'Jump in the fire' from Metallicas Kill em all album.
The Call of Ktulu sounds like this song played at a slower tempo.
I absolutely loved watching your reaction. That was something huh !! Megadeth have a huge catalog of amazing songs like that one. In fact , that whole album Rust in Peace , is amazing.
The Best forever
Even non metal fans can appreciate the technical prowess displayed on this track. RUST IN PEACE is a timeless masterpiece.
That record is gold man. Metal with intelligence and beauty in it
First time here and I am now a new subscriber. I have been a Megadeth fan for years with 24 live shows under my belt. I loved watching your reaction to this video/song. BTW, I love your shirt as I am a US Army Veteran :). Thanks so much for sharing :). Welcome to "MEGADETH WORLD" :).
MEGADETH live in Italy 92................Check it.
Hahaha! So good to see you experiencing Holy wars for the first time. I still remember the day for me. It was about 15-16 years ago. I melted my brain to the core with Rust in Peace! I loved your energy! Shine on!
That brought a tear to my eye remembering how free I felt when I first heard them. Megadeth has been with me through thick and thin, it was fun watching your face, I could tell you were filling up up with ideas!
The videos for Go To Hell
Hangar 18 and Peace Sells will probably be fun for you.
Easily the funnest reaction to Megadeth I’ve ever seen. 😂
One of my fav metal albums hands down!!
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH, no matter how long i've known it and listened to it, it never gets old🤘
Dave's melody over that first riff it so bizarre and so good🤘
Megadeth has always been one of my most favorite bands ever. Love listening to them every day. They will kick the crap out of Metallica always!
Pantera, Metallica, and Megadeth were THE Heavy Metal bands in the 80's when I was a teenager. Pantera is still my favorite though.
How dare you forget Slayer.....
@@TheEliminator1992 Oops! Yeah Reign in Blood was awesome!
80s pantera was mediocre hairmetal. After that they ripped off Exhorder. Most overated band in metal.
@@realeyesrealizereallies1176 Exhorder were badass.
Reigning Blood was meh, they just found a good catchy quick tempo that the lesser musical intellects liked. South of Heaven was their masterpiece in my opinion.
@@TheeMissingLinc not snobby at all... 😂 lesser musical intellects: some of us like Reign in Blood (which, for a towering intellectual such as yourself, you didn't even spell correctly) and Tool and Meshuggah...
lesser musical intellects my arse.
I've been watching every reaction video I can find to this song because I love to see other peoples first reactions to a Band I love and a great track. Gotta say your video is the best one I've seen, I love that you seemed to really enjoy it and your facial expressions to the "cool" parts were epic lol
Awesome thank you! That means a lot!
You really need to listen to Megadeth-A Tout La Monde, you will love it.
It's not a real heavy, but it is emotional and it was band from MTV for many years.
Yeah, because MTV said it was about suicide. Yet, they named Kurt Cobain "Man of The Year" in 1994. I'm not hating on Kurt but MTV should have been more consistent about this stuff.
She doesn't pay attention to the lyrics
Agree 💯😊
Yes… this is a classic metal song for a good reason. It has everything… instrumental intro, two solos, a bridge, shredding, and that drumming!!! He was so talented. And Dave Mustaine multitasks with the guitar and vocals. All of these guys were very talented musicians. It’s rare that musicians that are so good cross paths & collaborate. Many bands only one or two people stand out. All of these guys were good.
You *HAVE* to listen to tornado of souls,
the solo is pretty much considered as the best metal solo *ever*
Songs like Symphony of destruction,
Lucretia and hanagr 18 are also classics, from the “new” 2016 album - dystopia they have grammy winning title track (dystopia) and they also have great instrumental featuring their new guitarist Kiko Louirero
Great pic, that one rocks!
While I understand Tornado of Souls getting so much praise I always thought the solo in Dread and the Fugitive Mind as being better
Lucretia is the best song in RIP, definitely a must listen
One of the best metal songs by one of the best metal bands. Always thought they should have been bigger, and way bigger than metallica. My humble opinion.
Just saw Megadeth play live two weekends ago. They play this spot on perfect live as well. It's amazing what Dave can play and sing over. Some of their rhythm tracks are harder than some band's solos.
Love your enthusiasm for what I believe is the best commercial heavy metal song of all time. My initial reaction to this song was much like yours: so much, so heavy, so good!
If u react to Slayer - SEASONS IN THE ABYSS, make sure u have the lyrics nearby. If ur head was exploding for HOLY WARS ur body may spontaneously combust attempting to figure out the meaning of the lyrics while listening to its soothing melody’s.
From beginning to end this is one of the greatests technical and melodic masterpiece of Megadeth songs written !
Good mourning/Black Friday, that is immense, a ton of sections and tempo changes, my favourite song of theirs
Bought vinyl in 90's, listened to, soloed and played live multiple times, never grateful enough to Megadeth.
I love your reactions to Megadeth, they are one of the best, greetings from a follower from Ecuador
That song is so powerful such incredibly musicianship and they're saying something. The song has substance.
A band lyrically way ahead of it's time and musically a pure genius. My favorite thrash band 30+ years running.
I met Dave Mustaine & Gar Samuelson(the old drummer) in Pittsburgh, they played in a fairly small bar, before their Peace sells album. While local bands opened for them,Megadeth Sat at the bar, talking with fans. They are Awesome dudes.
Saw them back in 2017. One of the best concert in my life!
As a boy from far unknown backward northeast of India after Black Sabbath my second fev was MegaDEth in early 2000 I guess was 14/15 years..' what to say DM is one awesome
Megadeth were, and still are, Masterclass musicians. Rust in Peace, among many, was a brilliant album. One of the very best metal bands ever created 🤘🤘
I have seen them LIVE in concert 9 times. I'll still go next time they come through town.
When I was young we listened to swearing bullets and symphony of destruction a lot ... It wasn't until I was 17 or 18 I heard holy wars, instantly my favorite Megadeth song, possibly my favorite metal song .... I mean I regularly get chills when the "chorus" hits
You picked the right song for your introduction to Megadeth, one of my favorites of theirs is "Blessed Are The Dead".
First time viewer I loved your reaction to this I listened all kinds of music play music Steely Dan's a great man and I like a lot of other mellow stuff too but I've been listening to metal since the eighties I was there for the invention of thrash metal which is what you're listening to and been listening to Megadeth since the '80s so it's really fun to watch somebody else's reaction to the music
Megadeth, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, and Van Halen are my 4 god's.
For those who want to get in to Megadeth but not sure where to start, or just getting in to metal music I highly recommend in this order... Cryptic Writing, Youthanasia, Rust In Peace, and then your ready for all the rest. Welcome to the greatest community of music lovers. Genuine music with gifted, talented artists. Real artists.
They kinda ruined their legacy with all the BS later in their career. I'd replace them with Nirvana or Foo Fighters. Either one
your reaction was perfect \M/ Welcome to the Fam!!!!
Great reaction I been a fan of Megadeth when the peace sells and wake up dead was on MTV in 1986 Holy wars was one one the best that the band made but, there are so many underrated songs that have been overlooked I hope your journey is continuous.
Im glad for you to hear one of the classic bests.
