Hey man, I don’t know if you will see this haha, but I am senior looking to get into law school next fall! I am also interested in real estate, I actually used to be a realtor and my family is in real estate so I grew up in commercial real estate. Thank you for these videos, and I appreciate it.

Hey man, thanks for the video. I'm hoping to start law school next fall and make my way into big law. I'm also very interested in real estate, however, I just graduated college so I am quite broke. I did invest around 10k today in a quite risky position (let's just hope spy goes up in the next two years).

I actually did a video about how to get a full ride to law school some time ago that I'd recommend you check out: ua-cam.com/video/C7_wpFTuzn0/v-deo.html
I have a full law focused playlist on my channel page which you might find helpful.
Long story short, big law is a long shot but possible if things line up correctly. What is more reliably achievable is going to law school for free, which dramatically reduces your risk. Best of luck in any case!

@@JackDuffley I'm pretty set on trying to get biglaw. I have a degree in physics so patent prosecution is what I am thinking since after talking to some biglaw patent prosecutors it offers more flexibility than normal biglaw due to the nature of the work. Also there is a higher barrier of entry bc you need to be patent bar eligible. So although I'm sure I could go somewhere for free doing so allows for more possiblity of failure in respect to biglaw since if I get sick(or anything else unexpected) during my finals the first year things are not looking to pretty. Whereas being median somewhere else could result in biglaw opportunities. I'm currently considering WUSTL seriously due to the fact they are generous with their scholarships while last years employment summary shows a combined 42% biglaw+fed clerkship rate. Could be the best of both worlds however I must first see my offers.

@@hellowhatsuphaha Chicago-Kent, the school I went to, actually has a very strong IP program. I'd recommend giving it a look, especially if you have any interest in Chicago. Wash U would likely boost your chances of getting to big law right out of school, but also your chances of racking up debt (risk reward). Another thing you could do to reduce the debt burden is work while attending classes part-time, since many schools have part-time programs. I did that my first year, and that obviously helped financially and I think helped me in interviews since I had an extra year of real estate experience, even if only tangentially related to real estate law.
Point is, you have options. It sounds like you've given it some thought already which is great.

How does big law commercial real estate compare to a 1st year associate doing M&A, Capitol Markets, etc? Is there more predictability with your hours, etc? Or are they more or less the same?

I'm not sure I can offer much there since I've only worked in real estate, but my understanding is that the work flow is fairly similar. That is, when you have a big transaction going on, that's gonna take a lot of time and energy.

If people are working all those hours how are they finding time to date and socialize?

Well I am already married lol and the majority of my team members are also married. But indeed it can be tough during big weeks where major transactions are going on or when a number of assignments from clients roll in. The firm puts on a number of social events and lunches as well which are starting to pick up again.

    You have legal clients
    I get projects
It is literally the same thing from week to week as an engineer it varies how much you actually work even though I may only put down 40 hours but there are many time you work way more depending on the project you work.

I'd imagine most professional-type jobs at larger companies are pretty similar in that way.
