This video came about 2 weeks too late for me, but luckily my Apple Watch alarm went off. My pulse was 135 and I was just sitting in a bench working in the garden. I had no idea heat affected the heart so much. It was 92F with a heat advisory of 110 due to high humidity. Lesson learned! Great public service with this video.

I almost bought it hiking in central America. Was in good shape, young and cocky. Went on a 6 hour hike despite drinking and barely sleeping the previous night. It happens fast! Luckily my companion that day was a nurse.

Being in a completely darkened room out of sunlight totally helped me too. I started to feel better almost immediately.

Great video on Heat Stroke. It is a real issue. I have seen an employee suffer from heat stroke at the workplace, to the point where EMTs were called in. A job prior took precautions in preventing heat stroke by giving the employees some orange powder in a packet, where you just add water. This was done on hot days. Now I know it was just a drink containing electrolytes.
These days I just carry a 14.6 oz Zwilling tea infuser and a 33.8 oz Zwilling bottle. Both are filled with ice water on hot days. The tea infuser goes with me, and the bottle stays in the car.

Luckily for me I had a Vietnam Vet who was working construction with me when I had heat stroke. I was so far gone, I had no idea what I was doing. I like to explain to my scouts an analogy is that heat exhaustion is like your AC running all the time and not being able to keep the temperature down enough. Heat stroke is like when the AC breaks completely. I like how you showed an example of how someone can be so confused.

My husband has dementia and is a skinny guy. Not a lot of water storage muscles. We live in Tucson , he is 94, and this is a danger year round . Obviously a huge danger now, as he likes to go outside and walk his yard as the gardener he used to be. Confusion and increased speech problems.are alerts. If he drinks water without prompting, that is an alert. This an important presentation now especially for us older adults. Same big risk for younger children.

Almost had one on Sunday. I had stepped out briefly on a very hot day and on my way back, stopped at the local grocers very close to my place. As I was about to pay him, i suddenly felt faint and nauseous and sweaty. I sat down under the fans, aaked for a cold, wet papertowel, and wiped my face, arms, throat and legs and feet to cool down. Thank God i was inside the shop as I could cool down and then walked back to my place safely. That was scary! I was perfectly fine after i rested a bit. Thank you for this vid.

My husband is a nut when it comes to heat. He has put up a fence in our backyard once and he started vomiting and felt dizzy. I had to force him inside and give him some water and then i put cold wet towels on him at the back of the head and on his core body. But he didn't want to acknowledge that it was heat related. I finally got him back to a normal zone but i have to watch him like a hawk at this time of year.

None of this happened to me. I started walking like a drunk and my eyes could not focus on anything. I was push mowing grass and stumbled my way to the water hose and washed down over my head. To this day I can’t go out and stay in the sun very long

I spent a year overseas my time in the service. It was in Kuwait and I did a lot of 24 hour shifts in that awful heat. I just got home from surviving 7 seizures in a row and a trip to UPMC Hamot. I always used to confuse them for just heat flashes.

Question: Can you have delayed effects of overheating?
Yesterday a friend spent several hours in the sun in SE Alaska (temp in 60's °F, but sun felt very hot) clearing brush, but did drink around 5 large glasses of water. Don't know if she remembered her sea salt. She was tired when she went in, but nothing else was an obvious bother that she mentioned.
This morning she felt bad and when she went to get up her vision spun so fast she nearly vomited.
Her daughter gave her some kind of electrolyte solution.
I am curious if a reaction can be delated by 12 hours.

Great vlog, thx 4 not stretching it to 20 minutes for more ad time! I think cities and towns under a heat warning should require grocery stores to stay open overnight, and SHUT them down from noon to 5pm. (distributing electrolyte drinks free to seniors and parents of infants who approach the closed store) IMHO

I survived a 107.8° fever 20 years ago. It was over 105 for over 2 hours but I was too out of it to keep checking it. It was 107.8 when my husband got home 2 hours after I called him because my fever was 105. It was still 107.4 when the homecare nurse got there and done to 106.5 when we got to the ER. I don't remember the next 4 days after that. They were worried about heat stroke, but I survived it.

Heat stroke is no joke and quite scary. It happened to me a couple of years ago on a really hot day while filming for a short film outside. Even drinking plenty of water, my body was no match for the heat that day. I may have lacked enough electrolytes and salt in my system that day as well. Drinking too much water too fast could be fatal. I nearly passed out, but I got into a shaded area and layed down quickly so I could recover. I'm just glad I had enough water left to pour on my face that day.

These warnings are very important. I take both alpha and beta blockers and I shouldn't of stayed in my house that is getting rebuilt in the 100 degree temperature yesterday. I got back to my apartment after being in the house for 8 hours and drank a whole lot of water.
