I know I'm 4 years late to the party but I just gotta say... Speaking as a sober man, this guy lives in the solution and is really an inspiration to people in recovery. I actually am not talking about him as an actor, I'm talking about his program. I can hear it in the way he talks, in the way he let's go and unmarries himself from "THINGS." Very few claw marks here. It's amazing. NO SEEK, NO FIND. Awesome bother.
I just rewatched Tropic Thunder, and jumped into the rabbit hole of RDJ. Sober one year, last month, and I love your comment. I know it’s the 11th tradition, but I would love to hear his experience in the rooms. Get him into a speaker meeting. Would be amazing to hear his path into sobriety. Congrats on yours ❤️
What is your mother tongue? I'm curious because if it is Spanish then do you have any Spanish podcast recommendations? I'm trying to learn Spanish as an English speaker by the way.
Can't believe I had never seen this interview before. I love how relaxed and normal he is here. Much prefer this to tv interviews and chat shows where he is putting on a mask of celebrity. Really enjoyed this a lot!
He has a similar vibe when he's on set of Iron man 1. There's a few BTS videos out there with him messing around in the suit and doing stunts and whatnot, but continuing to express his love and appreciation for the craft. as well as just being chill most of the time.
I love how all his years living recovery just naturally flows thru in his language. You can hear bill Wilson's words have sunk deeply into his spirit. He lives his recovery & gives hope every time he speaks to those of us longing to live sober

the end of this podcast when they start talking about self improvement and how it can affect you negatively saved my life. it taught me the difference between holding myself to a higher standard and hating myself for not being good enough.
It wasn't JUST for Joe. I think we all needed it. This interview was the antithesis of the famous interview where RDJ walks out bc the reporter couldn't stop talking about his past drug use. You can tell both Robert (calling himself "bob" is just weird to me) and Joe both respect each other and it was honest and organic. I wish it was longer, but doing a press tour doesn't lend itself to 3 plus hour interviews. I hope he does come back bc dude has lived enough life for 3 lifetimes
Realizing I am WAY beyond the "power curve", catching up on the JRE...but this was my favorite interview in totality of all JRE conversations I've listened to. Robert Downey Jr. is one of the all-time greats for me and it was thoroughly enjoyable to see this side. It just sealed my perspective of the mindset of RBJ, which is simply put, "he is the man." He is just a well-rounded, professional and person.
Robert Downey is my top 4 favorite actors of all time! He just has this unique way to deliver actions in the movie that many other actors can’t. Very surprised how simple he is in real life and how easy to talk to him !
@Gautham Menon true. Yet, I don't get it how he can act in front of a movie crew with probably 60 people in the room and do stuff on stage like 2077 as an introvert. Of course depends on how introverted he is.

Yeah, but this was when he was at his peek of popularity. Just got two minutes out of him must be almost impossible, imagine an entire hour of a relaxing chat conversation. This makes you realize how big is The Joe Rogan Experience. Only God knows what Robert had to do after leaving the pod, maybe take a plane to go to the Jimmy Fallon show to promote Dr. Dolittle.
I friggin love Robert Downey Jr... we're the same age, we love cars, and the environment but still down to earth.. I haven't stopped doing the fun things completely but have switched up gears and totally relate... dudes amazing just like Joe... great work you two

Love RDJ. He was one of the cute up and comers in the 80's along with Johnny Depp and Rob Lowe. I have always loved him as an actor, but he is very down-to-earth as well. Respect to him for overcoming his demons and mounting the greatest comeback in Hollywood history. Very inspiring.
Robert's collaboration with Jude Law as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson is the best adaptation since Basil Rathbone of the 1940s not to mention Robert's performance as a Black man in Tropic Thunder. Nobody could pull that off and not insult the Black community but Robert Downey Jr.

Thanks Joe & Rob! I’ve now watched/ listened to this specific podcast multiple times in a row. Solid convo and plenty of wisdom shared. I appreciate y’all. 🤙🏻
Hat tip to Robert. He had some very dark times in the early/ mid 90s and was able to survive, and come out better on the other side. Very inspirational story.
There's a line in "Tropic Thunder" where RDJ says "I stay in character until I finish the commentary for the DVD". Sure enough, he did that commentary in character. Commitment!
Just watching all these jr videos and amazed of how interesting and normal these conversations are. Being a Welshman it was great to here rdj mention the Welsh farmer for dr dolittle. Another true inspiring guest. Grounded and both appreciate the positions they have found themselves in 😄
With Joes so smooth laid back interview style it allows the guest to really open themselves up and not be guarded...That's what we want to see not some scripted responses.
Robert seems like a lovely, lovely guy..... found fame, a prison cell, faced his demons, his adversaries and came back bigger and better. He’s articulate, considered, humble and respectful...... after everything, his feet are firmly on the ground........
I love Joe’s podcast because it’s always very intellectual/ intriguing conversation. You can see why each of these people he interviews got to where they are. They’re smart. I love RDJ
RDJ has went from playing the role of a black man in "tropic thunder" to playing the role of a black man in "Doolittle", two very different things endcapping the box office sensation of the decade.
Makes me think of an Iron Man moment. In Ultimate End, the crossover between 616 Marvel and Ultimate Marvel, Ultimate Tony Stark offers 616 Tony Stark a drink and 616 Tony says "How can you do that to me?" Ultimate Tony is a functioning alcoholic while 616 Tony went through Demon in a Bottle.
We've seen Tropic thunder at least 25 times my husband an I, we know every line and every joke. A great movie with an aswesome cast. From way back when we still had a sense of humor. Mr Downey Jr is an incredibly talented human being.
I honestly LOVE when people look at joe AND Jamie during these interviews while they’re talking. I don’t even know why but it makes me have so much respect for the guests that do that
Kalan Hitchens I’m not really implying that they need to look around and observe objects in the room, but majority of guests only look at joe, it’s nice to see guests look at Jamie and include him in the dialogue, that’s all I’m saying
Joey Diaz podcast he doesn’t just look at Jamie he talks with him, it’s usually people who know Jamie pretty well do these things but just random guests not regs. Jamie not important
With the documentary "Sr." coming out in December, I came back to this interview as I recall having a sense when I first listened to it that RDJ wanted to open up more about his dad and some of RDJ's more sensitive topics, but Joe, understandably so, shyed away from it. I am hoping SO hard that RDJ returns to promote his Netflix documentary about his dad and have another amazing conversation with Joe.
Happy for RDJ. I grew up watching him in the 80's. Kid was a mess back then. Portrayed perfectly in the movie Less than Zero. Didn't even have to rehearse for the roll. Just show up and be yourself. Seems to be a decent man. Much respect
Its funny you say that because some people think he doesnt like being around people that famous on camera for very long and even more so when he likes them genuinely. He likes being candid with them and off camera convos that he wouldn't have on air and so trolls dont pick it apart too much he tries to keep his most important people closer to an hour than others just go down his movie list you'll see all the big people closer to an hour than the "friends" podcasts such as and especially Joey Diaz, Brendan Schaub, every fucking UFC's fighter and C list comedian ever, Joey diaz
This is a very good example for interesting and positive internet content. I won't have time to watch all of these interviews, but I'll certainly keep watching a few and never feel like I just wasted time online.
Can you imagine how good Joe must have felt when RDJ said “I feel like I have known you for a long time”. Those two are really digging each other. I hope he comes back, maybe they will be less formal and more goofy. Maybe Robert brings Chris Evans along for a silly goose time.
I agree I felt like they have known each other forever. And yes would love to see both of them let their hair down. The comment he made about musk and hes not gonna do anything to drop his stock. I bet they got together shortly after off camera. Or plan on it.
social skill mastery... check out charisma on command on him. I really hate celebs, actor hollywood and everything but this guy is genuinely a cool dude we can learn from. He might be a child molester and we don't know but from how he presents himself, it's badass!
I've been a fan most years of my life, never strayed, felt for him when he had public struggles. Dealing with his issues & to come back to KILL l the Ironman roll made me so happy for him.. Ironman can't come back tho, because I cry everytime I watch infiniti war & end game. Such a great actor in so many movies!
Amazing conversation! You can tell that Robert didn't want to stop. When Joe said "I'll let you go", Robert even kept going when the podcast ended. Hopefully Robert returns for a 2-3 hour conversation. He is so intriguing.
As soon as I saw the video title, I knew they would be great together. I do enjoy Rogan's ability to converse on so many different levels depending on who he's talking to. He's silly when he has a comedian, he's wildly informed when he's speaking to a politician, totally zen with intellectuals.. he is really well rounded and just warm. Honestly, of all his guests, I'd still want to chat with him above them.

@Bill of Rights "fully"?
@Bill of Rights spam
TIME TO FIND OUT IF IRON MAN TRIED DMT
Hahahah
Lmaoooo
That's what I was just thinking and then read this!!! HAHAH Nice
Soul stone has taken care of him
Fuck yes he has lol
There's a line in "Tropic Thunder" where RDJ says "I stay in character until I finish the commentary for the DVD". Sure enough, he did that commentary in character. Commitment!
I don't think a lot of people realize the genius in that movie lol. It's wacky as shit, but it did damn near everything perfectly.
One of the greatest comedies in film history

@@lydellb till this day it is my favorite comedy. Absolutely hilariously genius comedy!
Shameless plug for a bad Doolittle movie. Rogan shouldn't give these guys a chance to use him as a vehicle to promote terrible corporate movies.
RDJ is such a class act. He deserves everything he has gained. To beat addiction to the ground and rise above that shit a superhero. Kudos, my man.
Anyone with addiction in their past understands how difficult it is. Kudos indeed!
Ryan Perkins even if he was, that wouldn’t make a difference.
oh why dont you marry it then
Man.. actors are so intense when they talk
Hes an arrogant ass
Robert seems like a lovely, lovely guy..... found fame, a prison cell, faced his demons, his adversaries and came back bigger and better. He’s articulate, considered, humble and respectful...... after everything, his feet are firmly on the ground........
This is literally one of the episodes I wish was a two or three-hour podcast
Since he said he'll be back maybe it will happen when he's less busy in his acting career.
better than no RDJ
@@SingTingz31 that'll be a good while, I could not even comprehend how in demand the past decade or so. Let alone now.
For a guy playing a character called do little, he sure does a lot.
Could it figuratively be one of the episodes you wish was two or three hours long?
I love Joe’s podcast because it’s always very intellectual/ intriguing conversation. You can see why each of these people he interviews got to where they are. They’re smart. I love RDJ
This man is an American treasure. I've been down and out and I've come back. I see this man be down and out and come back. We all have a second life
"Faster alone, further together."
That is a great quote.

In an alternate universe, Tony Stark smoked weed on Rogan’s podcast and Stark Industries shed a few billion dollars in market cap the next day.
Hahahahahahaha
all these comments are incredible 😂
I'm on that
don't think elon's really crying about it tho 60 billion back then 90 billion two years later ya know casual few years
Best comment I’ve seen here, haha!
One of the best guests. RDJ is a class act
Two very successful guys who exude a genuine sense of gratitude.
Robert “ I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude. “ Downey Jr.

One of his greatest roles hahaha
Favorite movie ever

RDJ has went from playing the role of a black man in "tropic thunder" to playing the role of a black man in "Doolittle", two very different things endcapping the box office sensation of the decade.
Joe "don't talk about drugs to RDJ" Rogan
He's been sober for decades. Yeah good on Joe for respecting that.

Makes me think of an Iron Man moment. In Ultimate End, the crossover between 616 Marvel and Ultimate Marvel, Ultimate Tony Stark offers 616 Tony Stark a drink and 616 Tony says "How can you do that to me?"
Ultimate Tony is a functioning alcoholic while 616 Tony went through Demon in a Bottle.
yea, "negative addictions"
RDJ commented several times he speak offline about these things. I am certain it's his rider he doesn't discuss this
We've seen Tropic thunder at least 25 times my husband an I, we know every line and every joke. A great movie with an aswesome cast. From way back when we still had a sense of humor. Mr Downey Jr is an incredibly talented human being.
This man in tropic thunder is the funniest thing I've ever seen
tristan greaves true story lol
tom cruise
Amen. Funniest thing I've ever seen and I know people who never knew it was RDJ
“IM A DUDE PLAYIN A DUDE DISGUISED AS ANOTHA DUDE”
“Pump the brakes kid! U about to cross some f**king lines 😡”
Funniest line in that movie 🤣
I honestly LOVE when people look at joe AND Jamie during these interviews while they’re talking. I don’t even know why but it makes me have so much respect for the guests that do that
Justin S I get that but.. where else would they look? only 3ppl in the room
Kalan Hitchens a lot of people ignore Jamie the whole time.. it’s nice to see him get recognised every once in a while
Kalan Hitchens I’m not really implying that they need to look around and observe objects in the room, but majority of guests only look at joe, it’s nice to see guests look at Jamie and include him in the dialogue, that’s all I’m saying
@@mayoh1059 noticed that too. Even though Jamie wasn't speaking Robert was still including him in the conversation. Very very few people do that.
Downey's manager "be sure to leave after an hour so they know you're A list"
Neil G LOL!
Seemed like he wanted to go longer but Joe had something better to do... WTF Joe?
The most puzzling to me was when he had Mike Tyson for only an hour and half at a time when he was pushing 3 hours regularly.
Brendan Cook they probably hung out for a bit after and talked off camera
I know the guest is cool when he shares eye contact with Jamie.
Dude, I was thinking the same thing
the little things.
Telios Abraxas none of the prescriptions he mentioned were anywhere close to blind. You peon ass dork
Telios Abraxas That’s so fucked up. Take my upvote.
Hollywood talk obviously
I agree I felt like they have known each other forever. And yes would love to see both of them let their hair down. The comment he made about musk and hes not gonna do anything to drop his stock. I bet they got together shortly after off camera. Or plan on it.
That way they might extend it from 72 minutes to 90.
I'd love to see Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and RDJ on a group podcast with Joe. Lol
That would be really fun.
I love how he looks both to Joe and Jamie when he speaks so everyone can be involved in the conversation.
my name is not
even some regular people dont have that obvious manner/politeness instilled
The trait of an actor that has done lots of stage work. I've noticed a lot of actors do this too :)
social skill mastery... check out charisma on command on him. I really hate celebs, actor hollywood and everything but this guy is genuinely a cool dude we can learn from. He might be a child molester and we don't know but from how he presents himself, it's badass!
I like how he doesn't interrupts RDJ. A lot of interviewers tend to do that.
This is not an interview. These are two man chilling with a beer
Dial J for Josh fr we need it
probably had a plane to catch or somewhere to be, since he's on tour promoting his movie
Ego
He said he would definitely be back, i hope so
I really liked Joe respected the fact that RDJ is a recovered addict and did not even ask him about DMT.
aw nice observation dude
Diomil Montes de Oca ahahahaha fucken lol!!!! Ahaha joe - “have you seen this moose get hit by a car?”
Umm dmt is not heroin so what does it have to do with addiction? Give joe props for not asking about his past but not dmt wtf.
@@_JEBUS addiction is a disease, recovering addicts cant use any narcotics or hallucinogens and should avoid all temptations. You have no idea how easy it is for them to relapse.
@@diomilmontesdeoca8303 depends on the addict, I know someone who was an alcoholic but smokes weed. He hasn't drank in 10 years and smokes weed regularly
Why is he in character the whole episode, really impressive how he can be in character as robert downy jr the whole episode, iron mam is impressive.
If Toby can reprise his role as Spider-Man. Rob can totally come back as Tony
It's taken me 3 years to discover this interview. Downey Jr. is a really interesting guy, that was fascinating. Especially the stuff about Tropic Thunder. God I hope he comes back.
