Golden years with Chiyonofuji and Konishiki battling till the death.
So good to see the man who got me to watch sumo 31 years ago! RIP Chiyonofuji.
He's death?
Same!
@@pureenlightmen - Chiyonofuji died 31 July 2016, at the aged of 61. He had pancreatic cancer.
i feel very fortunate to have lived in japan during chiyonofuji's prime and followed him and now be able to follow hakuho = 2 of the most skilled and magnetic yokozunas of all time.
In Chiyonofuji's time were there a lot of top Mongolian sumos like there are now?
Sumo rikishi looked way more fit back in the day then they do now. Way more conditioned too and Chiyonofuji still dominated.
Let's not forget steroid use was much more laxed back then. Seems like it really got demonized in the 90s with baseball.
Also I think one of the reasons for him being so built is also his training style. He focused more on strength and conditioning and techniques that rely on throwing his opponents off balance than relying and just weight and brute force to push his opponents out of the dohjo. Thats why I believe rikishi are less fit now then they were than in the era chiyonofuji wrestled because they rely on their weight more than they do technique, and I mean it makes sence the heavier you are the easier it is to push an opponent out but the only problem with this method in my opinion is that the sport becomes boring this way. I think that if the rikishi or even the rikishi coaches changed the way they trained the sport could become way more exciting.
I loved watching this bloke back in the day but I have literally just found out he died in 2016!. My oh my what a crying shame. What a legend.
Wow. A sumo wrestler who is actually ripped!! Amazing.
perhaps one of the greatest of all time !!!! He was the embodiment of speed and power !
Chiyonofuji was overpowering and fast. Most of his opponents were overmatched. Asahifuji was also excellent and their battle was a fierce one on the belt. Mitoizumi was huge but Chiyonofuji could overpower him too. You had to see it to appreciate it.
RIP to the best Yokozuna there was.

This is the guy that I remember from the Channel 4 program Sumo, what a fabulous time, fantastic memories and such an immense athlete.
Even in this era of dominant Hakuho, I've never seen a better rikishi then The Wolf!
RIP to the legend.

What a legend blessed to see the man inaction the wolf awesome to watch
The Wolf RIP
I always like watching him fight Terao. Terao never went down without a fight
me too!! gonna make a clips collection of their matches~
They start so much quicker back then..
He looked like a power bodybuilder, i do wonder if he used steroids ?as they were awfully prevalent in thoses days worldwide....He was massive and he was a master at his craft. Rip.
Um dos melhores lutadores de sumô!! Maravilhoso 🈳️
This is the sumo version of Mike tyson, defeating the giants giants
The Wolf the eternal legend. Lo amo.
Chiyonofuji was built almost like a strongman. It's incredible.
I know he has a physique as if he's on anabolic steroids... Which might be possible since this was early 90s. I wish I could get shoulders like a sumo wrestler, dudes are ripped
@@aprayingatheist2378 probably not, he got many children during these years (and they all look exactly like him) also there do exist sumo wrestlers who just can't put on fat, e.g. takanoyama junntarou, who came from Europe and trained in a stable for 15 years never exceeding 100 kg, his stable master has to feed him diabete drugs
千代の富士was the best of all time
The fight is so different.
It is fierce and beautiful.
The fight is just like beast fight.
Muscles contraction, struggle to get good grip, feet flapping after fully lifted in the air, no time to rest, all intense and attacking
Even the tachiai is so simple.
Just go. No mind trick.
The winner just walk out as human, the defeat bows his head fully respect
RIP Yokozuna.
No mind trick was needed when you are THAT good
@@hatakashi1900 he even deliberately fought a direct battle with konishiki (the giant man) at the 14th day, according to the narrator
