In terms of lore, the fight progresses something like: Phase 1: Although corrupted by the dark soul and its sheer power, his mind is still there, and his quest to find the blood of the dark soul to bring as pigment to the painter girl so she can paint a world that will never rot (I.E. free from the cycle and all the problems that have plagued the world from the start) remains his incentive. Phase 2: He bleeds, and sees that he's finally found the blood of the dark soul - his blood, after consuming that of the Pygmy lords. That's his incentive, and with you here, I assume he places his trust in you (who he's known from the start) to bring the pigment back to the painter girl. With his goal realised, he lets the years catch up to him and finally goes hollow (the Hollowslayer Greatsword deals bonus damage to him in phase 2). At this point, Gael is gone, and the shell left behind is being controlled by all the humanity he's consumed on his quest - which amounts to the Dark Soul itself, using him as a puppet, with a presence so shockingly powerful that the sky fills with stormclouds and lightning - *real* lightning mind you, not Gwyn's fake 'condensed sunlight' - starts to strike the ground. His posture straightens and the Dark Soul uses all the resources it has - Gael's weapons, fighting style, and that spell. It's like the controller's being handed to the Dark Soul. Phase 3: Gael's body, already battered and wounded, is weakening with your attacks. The Dark Soul, and its Age of Dark and Humanity, has been suppressed for god knows how many Fire linking cycles and ages. It's finally free, ironically with nobody left in the world for its coming Age of Dark. Either way, you bet it's going to fight you with everything it has to survive. It gets desperate, seen by its transition into a combat style somewhere between a refined warrior and a beast, and with its shell weakening, it can no longer hold in all the souls Gael consumed over the eons, and they burst out, empowered by the Dark Soul to call down true lightning from the sky.
I agree with most of your points except gael losing his mind and being controlled by the dark soul. Gael is an undead slave. In other words, an immortal slave. He has seen death countless times but never goes hollow because he has no will or want of his own to lose. Kinda like patches, except patches punishes the will of others. Phase 2 is him seeing the fruits of his labor. He sees the object he sought after for eternity within his grasp. Not only is it within his grasp, but the person destined to fight him for it is someone he led to the painting. So even if he loses and dies, there's a chance the player will still have gaels mission completed and a new world painted. We are just witnessing the enthusiasm of a warrior slave who survived until the end of the world. This is his might.
@@Kyoz then why does the Hollowslayer GS start dealing bonus damage after the phase transition and not in phase 1? @AshBreather The hollowslayer does more because now he consumed the dark soul. Hollows are humans that have lost the will to live but can not die, thus giving in to insanity. Gael not only had no will to begin with, but we see him accomplish his goal. Why would accomplishing his goal make him give up and hollow? The undead curse only affects humans because gwyn stole manus's dark soul in ds1 and chained humanity to the flame by trying to sacrifice the dark soul to the flame. @AshBreather I'm pretty sure hollowing is a slow process. They lose their memories by giving into insanity. Why would you want to remember dying 5 million times? The entire thing is about being lost in the world. "Many of us are beside the fire, forsaken. I speak of your kind and mine." 1:09:12 if you look closely, there's a summoning sign on the ground when he teleports. He's literally figured out how to hijack the soapstones to teleport
Those statues of knights with the dark sign on the chest are called Ringed Knights, they represent the grip that the abyss now has on the age of fire. Very similar to the dark wraiths of Petite Londo and no less corrupted. In my first run of the ringed city I made the same choice as you, I let Gael kill me, so I could do it again right away. For me, the most beautiful OST of the Souls saga is absolutely in my first position on my podium. One of the most beautiful bossfights ever created by from also has a very high lore level importance, his blood as he says "the blood of the dark soul" is the definitive confirmation that the darkness is a living being. You meet Gael in a future that represents the world as a gigantic landscape of ash and dust as if now, the power of the fire link no longer exist and the world was stagnant and dusty. Like Lapp or Patches says....you choose, a fine Dark Souls to you!
Yeeees! It's finally time to see you take down what's my favorite boss in Dark Souls series. Gael isn't the hardest boss in the series (imo) but he's definitely the coolest. 🔥
Since I recently fought him for the first time, I gotta say this is pretty true! Amazing fight and scene around him, but possibly one of the easier to no-hit with practice
Absolutely beautiful playthrough!!! It is an amazing dance with that feeble sob but ugh how he throws in like Artorias, flips like Maliketh, grunts like Gehrrman. Clothing like Jerren! He’s a warrior and you have him his rest. Amazing accomplishment to even choose on taking L’s to try making it harder! I wanted to fight him before I saw you fight, so I could feel accomplished and victorious. I had 10x more deaths 🤣 but hey, inspired me to give it a good blind try going in. Can’t wait to see you finish strong
Doing soul level 1 runs really sharpens your evasive ninja rolls away from danger. After playing mostly all, Dark Souls games you have gotten very good. I have only seen a few take it to Gael like you did. You are very good at evading his aggressiveness. Your dance moves are graceful. Great Job! Thanks for sharing! Gael acknowledged you as "Ash" at The Cleansing Chapel in The Cathedral of the Deep. He is seeking "Ash" to help the Painting Girl. She needed to see fire and slaying Sister Friede/Father Ariendal you brought the fire needed so she could paint a cold gentle world. Therefore, Gael guided you through The Dreg Heap to help you and him attain The Dark Soul of Man, The red pigment of blood. When Gael arrived at the pygmy council, they did not have the Dark Soul, Gael lost his mind and started killing them thinking they were hiding it from him. The Dark Soul of Man was actually his own blood sacrifice, then you brought The Painting Girl, the paint to finish of The Dark Souls Series.
@@mmeiruplays Yeah, probably repeating myself here but when this game first came out a LOT of people struggled with Gael. He is right up there with Orphan of Kos as hardest Boss. The order in which you played, no fault of your own, Elden Ring really taught you crazy evasive moves. I too struggled much more with his wild moves. However you effortlessly figured out his timing rather quickly. I have seen maybe 7 playthroughs and this one stood out. I really thought you were going to downgrade to useing a dagger there for a while. Smooth
Well done! I enjoyed your content quite a bit. You come across as fun and sympathetic. You're pretty decent as a player too. Keep on going girl, I'll bewatching your road to success. Much love from Germany!
It was low-key kinda hilarious that you got summoned as a spear of the church before you even did the fight. I feel kinda bad for how confused you were, but it was good content! XD Yeah, that's a PVP boss, where another player is summoned to be the boss. Most players who get summoned are min-maxed power gamers who have lots of PVP experience and literally build their characters to be unbeatable by the common scrub. I am the common scrub. I will never have any qualms about summoning help for this fight! XD Great job with Gael. He took me like 5 or 6 hours of attempts, but you just casually get to phase 3 on your first try, and then die on purpose. LOL. Even so, he is also possibly my favorite boss also, just for the music and spectacle, if not for the fight itself.
Yeah this fight was indeed a spectacle, loved every second of it! Haha honestly I think 700 hours in Elden Ring has taught me a thing or two. 😂 The spear of the church experience was interesting indeed lol!
Slave Knight Gael was the best boss to end the series. Great send off for a great game from the music to the moveset to the story . I really hope we will get a boss with this same caliber in the Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring. Since it is confirmed it will be the one and only DLC for the game.
I'm happy to see someone who actually enjoyed the fight as much as I did. Gael is the best boss from every videogame to me. everything about him: lore, design, arena, battle design and freakin MUSIC, it all resonates to a incredibly good. he's the true final boss of dark souls franchise
Its really rare to see someone actually look at the bosses as carefully designed movesets and make sure that they get to see all aspects of it, rather than just rushing through the fight by any means possible. extremely based!
Congrats on taking down Gael, many would agree he’s one of the best bosses FromSoft has ever made. And with one boss left, the playthrough is almost over. Been a joy to watch! Side note, have you ever considered playing any of the big DS3 mods?
Thank you! :)) Well you know, we have some time in between finishing DS3 and starting ER dlc so I was thinking should I try mods. 🤔Is there a mod you'd recommend?
The Black Knight Sword is actually a very powerful weapon upgraded, it also does +20% damage to demon type enemies as a bonus. I know people who use it a lot for strength builds.
I think it's meaningful that patches is the last NPC you ever deal with in a Dark Souls game, he kind of represents the whole mood of this series. Now the feast can truly begin. Edit: Holy hell, you did amazing against Gael. I mean you could've one-shot him if you wanted to!
I love how Dark Souls series ended in this DLC. Two bearer of the dark souls met at the End of the World at the End of Time. Perfect. Bravo, Miyazaki-san.
Slave Knight Gael is a curious mix of two previous Fromsoft Bosses !!! The very first one have to be Orphan of Kos due to the agressivity and huge Boss Fight Area and the second is unapologetically Knight Artorias with the first cutscene and the way he move in rhe Boss Fight !!! I could add Ludwig The Accured due to the rampant king dude you meet before going to the Fight 🔥🔥🔥
I cannot believe how much better you are at this game than me😂 I struggled so long with Gael, and you need to nerf yourself because it was to easy🙈 once again, so much fun to watch☺️
So you're a Dark Souls boss now, huh! Lapp/Patches: You triggered the cutscene before you talked to him; he would have said his classic lines: "there's treasure, look over there, it's yours, go take it". BUT! Remember he told you he would remain your true friend, no matter what? He kept his promise, only he doesn't like to be mellow. He kicked you down but he's actually showing you the path to progress (if you hadn't been there before, that is). Now, why does he have siegbrau? There's a cutscene I was never able to trigger but which I've seen, it is in Cathedral of the Deep (remember some people mentioning you had missed an NPCs there?). In this cutscene, someone kicks you off a ledge, Patches style, but it was not him. It was Onionbro! :o Except, no, it was Patches. He stole Onionbro's armor to find and rescue Greirat from the second pillaging mission, I think, but he pretended to be that Onion Knight for his "no mellow" reasons. These quests are so weird mechanically, like bugged or glitched, that sometimes they don't trigger for some unknown reason, or doing some actions out of order breaks them or something. Anyway, glad you were able to watch Patches in the end of the world. I know you hate his guts, but hey, he survived all this time! Ah, and the only other moment Patches appears in the DLC, is as a summon versus the Spear boss. You can summon him as Unbreakable Patches to help you.
Hello. Uncle Gael armour set was missed in one of the houses during the crow knights town area exploration. If i remember well... Anyways... Thanks very much.
Btw Halflight sometimes summons real players against you instead of NPCs (thats why you were getting summoned to another world). You got two npcs though, I'm pretty sure? When you joined that world the host died before you could do anything lol. It's a pvp gankfest usually. Imagine the host killing the npc boss and then losing because of pvp to a real player 😢 I find it annoying on both sides because I don't really like pvp. As the boss you cant use flasks (and they are halved even if you could). I felt bad the one time I killed a host as was 3v1, and raged when I lost to pvp 1v2 myself 😅 If you want to experience that you can reset the boss battle at the statue near where Irina sits. With the "Return to Lothric" campaign iver the next two weeks maybe you will see some real players there
Halflight is an annoying npc but if you play online mode you get to fight an actual player and by joining the covenant you can be summoned to be the boss. It’s super fun and cool
Congrats on beating gael, regarded as one of the best bosses in fromsoft. Dont ever feel bad about using any weapon here as you are meant to he using a good weapon. You are just way too good at the game, so do whatever you think is the most fun. I used nameless kings weapon which is pretty strong and it still took me about 10 tries for gael and about 20 for Midir. Will we be getting a dark souls 1-3 boss ranking as that would be cool?
Thank you! 🙌☀️ Such an amazing boss for real. And yes, I will do Dark Souls boss tier list! Just don't know yet when it's gonna be out but it will happen.
Damn, how can you be so good at this game that you have to handicap yourself multiple times so Gael can have a chance at a fair fight :') But I'm glad you did, it's the best boss of all time according to a (totally objective) study made by me and I'd be sad for you if you couldn't appreciate it in a good way. Time to watch the rest of the playthrough !
I'm probably in 1% of fanbase that doesn't have Gael even in the top 3 of Dark Souls 3 Bosses, though I still enjoy fighting him a lot. Can't wait to see your reaction after job.
@@mmeiruplays yes! Different taste among players (and people in general) is the coolest thing in the world. The most important is to stay in harmony with yourself and your beliefs. We cool!🤝
Great fight, if you want after finishing the game you can react to VaatiVidya's videos on the history of the game, the NPCs, the bosses, he is one of the best theoreticians on the subject.
I wish that fighting Gael on a fresh new game was more difficult than it actually was, he's too easily staggered, he doesn't do a lot damage and he leaves the player with loads of time to him. He's actually very difficult on maximum NG+ difficulty, but I think he needed to be extremely difficult even without having the increase to his health and damage that he gets from being on maximum NG+.
@@BadAtGaming100 and yet she still beats him in 7 deaths, the first 2 don't count since she let him kill her. She might have been able to get him first try if she hadn't decided to let him kill her. He still needed a difficulty boost, he's supposed to be this insane ultimate warrior, vigorously tested and battle-hardened over and over again by countless battles throughout the history of the Dark Souls universe. I'd honestly expect him to be on Melania's level of difficulty considering that Gael's also "never known defeat" just like Melania. Gael should've been the Melania before Melania.
Gael is the easiest final boss of all the games. Hella slow and telegraphed attacks, mostly vertical attacks or stabs, staggers really easy with a 2h weapon. Circle strafe is highly effective, but then again, works well on 98% of all the games non gimmick bosses. Only hard if you are greedy, or have the reflexes of an old tortoise. Oh, or you’re a low level pure caster build, cause of the one shot potential if you somehow get hit.
@@dinnermeats2 I was never good at parrying, so gwyn was harder for me than Gael by a long shot. The Gael fight(mechanics wise) was a major letdown for me…should have been malenia tier for its time.

Thank you :)) And yes it's true lvl 1 runs teach you soooo much! That's why I love doing those.
Smooth
When the fight is so good, you lose on purpose to keep fighting him lol. There's a reason Gael is considered the best boss Fromsoft ever made
He's THE GOAT 🐐
This fight made me pick up a mod that made him even harder just because of this, genuinely he’s such a perfect ending to the trilogy.
Well done! I enjoyed your content quite a bit. You come across as fun and sympathetic. You're pretty decent as a player too. Keep on going girl, I'll bewatching your road to success. Much love from Germany!
Appreciate you being here, thank you so much 🙏🏻✨
It was low-key kinda hilarious that you got summoned as a spear of the church before you even did the fight. XD
Great job with Gael.
Who can be bored with someone like you playing, you are amazing ❤❤
Slave Knight Gael was the best boss to end the series. Great send off for a great game from the music to the moveset to the story . I really hope we will get a boss with this same caliber in the Shadow of the Erdtree for Elden Ring. Since it is confirmed it will be the one and only DLC for the game.
I agree! Elden Ring dlc pls give as Gael 2.0 🔥
Time for a monumental boss fight!!! Always love fighting Slave Knight Gael at the end of the world!!! Another amazing playthrough Meiru!
Thank you! :)) I agree, such an amazing boss whoahh
I'm happy to see someone who actually enjoyed the fight as much as I did. Gael is the best boss from every videogame to me. everything about him: lore, design, arena, battle design and freakin MUSIC, it all resonates to a incredibly good. he's the true final boss of dark souls franchise
I didn't want this series to end. Thank you and can't wait to see what you play next
She told Gael no to having The Dark Soul like you would a pet trying to snag chicken off your plate lmao.
- Let's follow the trail and let's see if there's something nice for us waiting...
- FromSoftware: Yes
🤣🤣
OH LETSSSSS GOOOOOO 🔥🔥🔥
FIRST 😂
@@mmeiruplays I'm your number one fan babes 😋😘
I know it’ll be hard to remember back to episode 1 but the opening cut scene looks like the boss arena for Gael
Its really rare to see someone actually look at the bosses as carefully designed movesets and make sure that they get to see all aspects of it, rather than just rushing through the fight by any means possible. extremely based!
Appreciate that! 🙏🏻
Great job on Gael, really enjoy watching your playthough Meiru❤️🔥
Thanksie Hollow!! :)) Gael was so much fun!
@@mmeiruplays I saw a few videos of the Convergence mod, I don't know what it's like for real, but some bosses look really cool in it
Dark Souls Archthrones is the one that recently came out and it’s really good!
The Black Knight Sword is actually a very powerful weapon upgraded, it also does +20% damage to demon type enemies as a bonus. I know people who use it a lot for strength builds.
You always make it look so good. You did so well❤❤
Thank you so much :))
yeah THAT urge to repeat the fight to make it perfect. pure joy
Gael is mental, unbelievable you got him...was pumped to see if you make it hahahah,
Congrats girl!
Thank you!!
I think it's meaningful that patches is the last NPC you ever deal with in a Dark Souls game, he kind of represents the whole mood of this series.
Now the feast can truly begin.
Edit:
Holy hell, you did amazing against Gael. I mean you could've one-shot him if you wanted to!
8:17 you forget the box
I think last ep she used the charm to make it sleep and steal the item
29:08 Mmeiru Paints when?!?! 🙏🏼 🙏🏼
That color palette is actually so stunning so maybe mmeiru paints!
Trusty Patches always giving that little push to the right direction...
This is an amazing boss fight and you did great, huge congrats.
Thank you!! :))
With me, Gael keeps doing that four hit combo again and again. It's almost like Champiom Gundyr. He just us relentless.
He's bullying you on a whole new level 😂
@@mmeiruplays He truly is. But someday I will be the winner. Hopefully in the near future. 😂
I cannot believe how much better you are at this game than me😂 I struggled so long with Gael, and you need to nerf yourself because it was to easy🙈 once again, so much fun to watch☺️
700-800 hours in Elden Ring definitely helps here 🤣🤣
Holy you did so well at gael first attempt and i absolutely love how you killed yourself to fight him again 🤣
Haha thank you! 🙌☀️
Great playthrough 😊 your really good
Thank you :))
Gael is an excellent boss that feels so cathartic to defeat ❤ He's not the hardest but its just a really well made battle imo
Thank you for watching! :))
Gael ❤
Imagine dying to the boss deliberately because you're too good, I wish I have that skill lol
I felt bad the one time I killed a host as was 3v1, and raged when I lost to pvp 1v2 myself 😅
If you want to experience that you can reset the boss battle at the statue near where Irina sits. With the "Return to Lothric" campaign iver the next two weeks maybe you will see some real players there
Halflight is an annoying npc but if you play online mode you get to fight an actual player and by joining the covenant you can be summoned to be the boss. It’s super fun and cool
Yeah I think I was summoned as a "boss" 🤣 Easy win for that lucky player hehe lol
Nerfed herself because she is too good haha, glad you enjoyed this fight!
Hahaha 🤣
Damn, how can you be so good at this game that you have to handicap yourself multiple times so Gael can have a chance at a fair fight :')
But I'm glad you did, it's the best boss of all time according to a (totally objective) study made by me and I'd be sad for you if you couldn't appreciate it in a good way.
Time to watch the rest of the playthrough !
Haha thank you so much! :)) Gael is amazing. Hope you enjoy the playthrough!
I'm probably in 1% of fanbase that doesn't have Gael even in the top 3 of Dark Souls 3 Bosses, though I still enjoy fighting him a lot. Can't wait to see your reaction after job.
Ok we're even now right? I didn't like Friede and Gael is not your number 1 fave so we cool. 😂
@@mmeiruplays yes! Different taste among players (and people in general) is the coolest thing in the world. The most important is to stay in harmony with yourself and your beliefs. We cool!🤝

definitely bitter sweet this is ending but hey now there is time for that Elden Ring level 1 melee run right? =P
Still 1 episode of DS3 left ;)
what a tigress iiiuufff
Getting summoned to Spears of the Church is annoying imo
Great fight, if you want after finishing the game you can react to VaatiVidya's videos on the history of the game, the NPCs, the bosses, he is one of the best theoreticians on the subject.
Thank you! Yes I'll definitely do some lore reactions after the last episode :)
That female npc who keeps healing (like most npc invaders) was annoying lol. Thankfully she runs out of them 😅
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for providing us with your amazing content! 🙏 Much love ❤
And don't forget to praise the sun \[T]/ 😊
Thank YOU for being here! And yes, praise the sun always. ☀️🙌
He does like three hits and it’s a player kill without Ember? He staggers less than Malenia that’s for sure and she’s not wearing much armor
Gael should've been the Melania before Melania.
final boss fight was that easy for you 🤣
No way, it was tough! 😂 The third phase is insane
Gwyn unless you don’t count parrying?
@@dinnermeats2 I was never good at parrying, so gwyn was harder for me than Gael by a long shot.
The Gael fight(mechanics wise) was a major letdown for me…should have been malenia tier for its time.
@@donyates7300 insane take, Gwynn is weakest boss ever I never parried him, I just kept him in stun lock....so weak only liked the eerie music
Gerhman is easier, Soul of Cinder is easier, Gwyn is easier. I even found Isshin easier than Gael.
His first phase is more annoying.
Nawwww it's like a perfect dance!
I love how he is all sleepy and stumbly and the more you fight, he wakes up and gets real with you.
That was way too much damage with the BK GS💀dont buff the weapon up to +5 instantly, first use it at like +1/2 see if that’s cheesy then upgrade
I enjoyed the fight and that's all what matters here.
@@mmeiruplays true, yeah
