So awesome to see you guys doing this job🤘🏻. I spoke with Sean last year about this as I have the second casting of the 2nd gen supercharger where the needle bearing does not press put on the drivers side. Me and him had a long back and forth over the course of a week or so and had us both stumped on why my casting was so different than his because all the write ups we could find all showed that the bearings should just press out and could not understand why my housing was so different. Finally decided to deep dive into the internet and found a blind needle bearing tool which did the job and relayed this back. These two guys are a service to the 3rd gen community and having them as a resource has made a lot of the jobs I’ve done to my truck so much easier. Rock and roll dudes. Sicmods 4life 🤙🏻
That one bearing in the back on certain housings is definitely something people need to be aware of before starting this job. Thanks for reaching out and talking through your struggles with me. We appreciate the support. - Sean
What's the cost to build TRD supercharger onto the 5vzfe I've done injectors before found it pretty simple I watch one of your old videos 😀 I'm shore if you have a video on Installing TRD supercharger and what parts are needed to running driving I'll be fine
Well this video links to a kit to rebuild the SC. The kit is about $140, so pretty affordable to rebuild assuming you have the tools and this video to get it done. - Sean
Hey Tim, as always excellent content. You guys have helped me through everything from ball joints to fuel gage sending unit. Have you ever considered doing a 3rd Gen 4Runner 2WD oil pan removal / replacement? There just aren't any good videos out there. I think I found (2) and they were really bad. Anyway, wanted to ask and hope you guys have a safe and fun holiday weekend.
With a 2wd, dropping the oil pan is pretty easy because you don't have the front differential in the way. A tool that works well to help you separate the oil pan is a thin flexible putty knife. You drive it in by tapping on the handle with a mallet or hammer. Once it's in, you can push it forward or backwards to start separating the pan from the engine block.
@@TimmyTheToolman Hey Man, you're the first person, (the first person I trust) who ever gave me any feedback. I have read the stories of guys struggling with 4WD 4Runners and removing their oil pans. Having to raise their engine etc. There's one or two videos out there of oil pan removals on 3rd Gen 2WD's but they are really low quality and I couldn't get the entire picture. I have had my skid plates off plenty of times. Inspected my oil pan seal plenty of times but I always wondered if there was some mysterious step I wasn't seeing. Maybe some weird obstacle standing between me and simply dropping the pan straight down. My pan was installed in Japan in 1996. So did those tech's install it with sealer or a Toyota gasket? And if I drop it, do I go back with sealer or some actual Toyota designed gasket? BTW, Sean is making some really good videos. He is easy to watch, easy to understand and makes for an overall good presentation. Maybe you guys have been taking some video production classes at the local college?
@turnah8242 They seal the pan with Toyota FIPG 103. That's what I suggest you use to reseal it. There might be an aftermarket seal you can purchase but I wouldn't recommend it. No classes for Sean or I. We're just learning as we go and trying to improve or video quality.
@@TimmyTheToolman Got it.................if you told me to seal it with the uterus of a virgin Spanish goat, I would. I'm that guy, I'm all in and I follow the advice you two excellent wrenches are putting out. As always, mucho thank you. Enjoy the weekend!

Oh, OK, that really helps. If something is small, it needs to be red. Got it. We also never knew how the size of the pulley changes the amount of boost. Incredible!
Hey Timmy! I recently rebuilt my super charger, pressed all the bearings myself on the nose cone. Unfortunately my needle bearings broke and I had to send it in to get done. Since I reinstalled it I’ve been having some issues, when it’s under load 60-70mph or going up hill I can hear air releasing from the engine bay. Unfortunately once I slow down it goes away so I can pull over and see where it’s coming from. Have you ever heard of anything like this?
Air releasing?… it sounds like a vacuum leak or a hose is still disconnected, Are you sure you reconnected everything the same way you had it before you removed it? You could do a smoke test if you suspect an air leak. - Sean
Yup I’ve gone through it all multiple times. The weird part is it only happens when it’s under load. 🤔 I did schedule a smoke test to see what can be found. Last night I went for a short drive and now I’m getting a knock sensor bank 2 code. When I had it rebuilt I also got new injectors from motorwest and a OEM MAF which I had a previous code for. So I’m kinda lost, idk what happened.
@@TimmyTheToolmanYes, trying to make a one way bearing or sprag clutch style like an over running alternator. I'd like to make a 7 psi pulley with a one way bearing that way once the turbo spools up it can blow through the supercharger and the supercharger shouldn't multiply boost (I don't think)
Hey Timmy, I'm in the middle of replacing seals, bearings, etc. on the rear of my 3rd Gen. Cleaning everything up right now and am going to do the press work tomorrow (with Duane's tool). I've watched your excellent seal / bearings video 5/6 times but I wanted to be for sure on something. So when you install the new seals, is it going in dry with no white lithium, red general grease, black MOLY, spray teflon, etc.? Thank you in advance for any input you can give me.
