    Love the jeep series. The Cherokee would look super good with tinted windows!

    I took my carpet out of my 96XJ to repair some minor damage from rust on the floor pans. While I had the carpet removed, I took the opportunity while I had access to apply fluid film to the bolt holes for the seats and seatbelts etc. Then I used Noico butyl sound deadener from Russia. I did the area between the headliner and the roof as well. Made a huge difference with road noise. I ultimately reinstalled the carpet, but I may end up replacing it.

      I'm also restoring my 94 xj. A lot of rust in the floor. Using Fluid Film as well to stop and protect for rusting.

    If you plan on keeping this cherokee for a long time I would plan on removing the interior and removing all the factory seam sealer I can tell you have rust underneath it. I've done a few it's almost like the factory seam sealer absorbs water it's weird it smells musty like there's moisture in the seam sealer when you remove it. What I usually do is use an angle grinder with a heavy wire brush and that tears through it then a sharp chisel and cone style wire brush on a die grinder or even a drill for the corners. Then I use a 2k primer on top after the rust repair and then nice 2 part 3m seam sealer like the controlled flow and heavy bodied sealer it takes a lot to replicate the factory it's expensive but very nice when it's done. Then I use a 2k paint on the floors when done. Please don't do bedliner it holds moisture underneath it, it's like a rubber film and water gets between it and the floor I've seen multiple jeeps and truck beds with this issue.

    Look up Por15 as a coating for your seats under carriage and floor boards (I know you already covered the floor boards), Also for the underside of the vehicle . Center console on the dash with the radio, there is a double din upgrade for the 97-01 Cherokee. Allows you to install a 7" multimedia head unit. Your XJ is coming along nicely. The Lady sure has a giggle.

    That's beyond a little surface rust. What you needed to do was get a damn power drill with a wire cup brush & a plethora of toxic solvents. That's going to come back to haunt you & you're not going to know it till it's too late because you masked it up with the insulation deadner.

    Great video! This is next on our XJ build. Quick question, I may have missed it but did you need to use any adhesive when applying carpet to the floor. Definitely following this one. I'm restoring my Mom's 92 xj.

    How many square feet did you need to use to cover the floor in insulation?

    • @srector3
      @srector3  2 роки тому +1

      I got 2 rolls that were 36sqft each. The first one covered pretty much everything except the wheel wells. I would estimate I used around 40-45sqft after covering those and filling in some small gaps. I’m planning to use the rest of the second roll when I do the headliner.

    Great video! The rust on the passenger side can be from a number of things; water leaking in from the firewall seems to be a common problem for late model XJs. Check out IDGAXJ - Simple Overlander for what his problem was.

      ps - on the far outside passenger side there is a drain passage way on the inside cowl tray...it usually gets blocked but you can sometimes unclog it with high pressure and a coat hanger..if you go from the bottom up..by bottom i mean inside the fender well... i discovered this after i had already cut my cowl open...there is a seam on the inside of the firewall on the blower motor that when that drain passage gets clogged backs up over the top of that seam and leaks inside to the floor board...try that before cutting your cowl open..

    • @srector3
      @srector3  2 роки тому

      Thank you! That’s a cool channel. I will have to check out my firewall. It also dawned on me that some of it may have came from the passenger rear window. When I got the jeep the regulator was broken and the window was always sliding down. I fixed it but I’m thinking maybe some rain had gotten in over time.

    Forgive me not being a jerk and i'm 2 years late here but in this situation you should be using phosphoric acid on the rust at makes rust turn black and become inert then you coat it. Just painting over the top of the rust is the worst thing you can do.
