Price does not = a car being a future classic … The mk1 focus RS is a future classic however the mk2 cost more currently. The mk5 is desirable and enjoyed by many (including myself) and worth the money people ask for a clean example, that does not make it a classic. As I stated in my video, the existence of the MK4 R32 will hold the MK5 R32 back purely as it was the first.

Mk5 r32 doesn't looks special. Front end similar to jetta with the chrome.. seats are like tdi seats.. side skirts tiny.. don't think it will ever be something that is desired.. awsome car tho.. mk4 R32 is some thing special built by enthusiast big beefer bumpers konig seats 4wd it got the lot.. the shape is absolutely timeless. Mk3 vr6 was to plain apart from the lovely vr6 engine
I have both a mk4 and mk5 r32. Love them both! Mk4 absolutely is my favorite between the 2 and its more aesthetically pleasing. But you’re right about the mk5, definitely more desirable with the dsg
Agreed I have MK4 r32 for few years and my mate has the mk5 r32 In dsg.. mk4 feels more raw and special I gets guys praising it all time.. mk5 I don't when drove his and the dsg is nice and comfortable but the mk4 r22 feels faster.. the dsg is like it always in a higher gear when you want to put foot down feels abit less go then the mk4 manual

I’ve been to a couple show and shines and can confirm that on at least a dozen occasions the words “classic” have left people’s mouths when commenting on it. I share your sentiment. R32 MkIV Golf is separated from the rest of the Golf’s. If you’re buying the best and most aggressive version of the car you should be able to visibly and audibly be able to tell the difference.
Not even 2 minutes in and i already disagreed right away. The R lines should not look super aggressive. No german car from this era looked massively aggressive without needing to. The whole point of these german cars was to blend in unless you knew your cars and could appreciate them. They looked classy and sporty. Now they look overdesigned because theyre bought by rich and ignorant posers for status on social media. This IS a classic already and are starting to hold value for good examples.
i think hot hatches should all have wide arches so you can seperate from the lower models. its a shame the mk4 doesnt have wider arches regarding the mk2 focus rs is will definitly be a future classic its a wide 5 pot rs with wing backs and very agressive wait till the electric takes over cars are dull now
2:00 I don't agree with the mk8, I think it took a step back like the mk4-mk5 on the meanness appeal. Mk7.5 looked much more aggressive vs the mk8 and lost many of the aggressive lines.
I think in stock form you are correct, the 7.5 is a much better looking car but wit a few simple modifications the mk8 is a very aggressive looking car with a very box shape up front and behind. Not overlay keen in stock form.

The mistake vw made for the mk5 was to not offer the 3.6 to make it special! Is it really slow stock? Not really, it kills all gti's at the traffic lights, and the V8s. Thats good enough for me.But yes, mk4 more status for sure.

The prices are going up here in the states. At first the people didn't like the DSG & electric power steering. add a wind booster to the gas pedal &a DSG tune wake it up. Tune for tune the Mk5 is faster as well. I raced 2 friends that was talking crap to me about my MK5😁so i had to silent them 😁 The fact it has the last N/A VR6 motor already make it a classic but some of your opinions were spot on in the simple looks department but after market has a lot to fix that.

To me the best SC set is the Rotrex & it cost about 10k just for the kit. If i get a nice used SC kit that's the only FI ill installed on mine> Haldex,DSG & ECU tune with Super Sprint full exhaust my car is running 13 second quarter mile & sub 6 sec 0-60. I have a e36 making over 600whp & a B8 A4 Audi making over 400whp and i have more fun with the R32. The car has over 227k on the dash all original timing chains & it still idles like a brand new car bit im about to do the cams (Schrick) so ill do the chain upgrade same time.
Enjoyed the video even if I disagree with many on the sentiments. There is no malice in it to your credit. As you correctly point out it comes down to personal preferences. To me the Mk4s are ugly ducklings. They are boxy, boring & is not remotely visually appealing. They can’t handle a corner & other than there not being many of them I cannot understand the fuss. The Mk5 R32 especially in 3 door form is not only much better looking machine but a much better all-round car. That said I agree with you that the Mk6 R is better looking, for me the best looking Golf R of them all. I have the manual R32 & here in Australia many consider them more desirable due to their reliability, durability & affordable maintenance compared to the early DSG offered on the R32s. They are already a classic & will become considered even more so as time passes. I think your Mk5 is beautiful & love the Supercharger. It’s a fantastic addition & addresses the lack of power of the VR6. Thanks for the video.

Great combo V6 + Charger.As much as I prefer a Turbo R32 you do loose a lot of that V6 noise.

Anton you are talking rubbish. Rear suspension on a MK5 is in a different league from a MK4. Mk5s are quicker everywhere because of this.
