Great video, I've been doing 10 minute intervals, 10 min heavier gear than normal ( outside ring ) then 10 min lighter gear to recover ( normally inside ring ). I have found out that in a group ride I need to be a bit selfish, instead of waiting for a slower rider thats dropped off I do my own ride & stay with the group, that attitude has helped me improve.
Great video coach, i tick most of the boxes but as a 63kg lightweight i struggle with top end power. In a group ride going up hill is easier for me then pushing on a downhill section just becuase of how light I am. Pushing weights in a gym doesnt inspire me but low cadence work to improve my strength on my bike does so im going to look to build these into my existing training along with my VO2 max and low zone aerobic workouts.
Hi coach, great information thanks. Btw where are the live workout videos , like the vo2max. I notice its not in your youtube channel anymore, i tried to join but it still unavailable. Thanks 🙏
I'm trying really hard to keep up with the fast guys in my Club - i'm in between two groups [medium/fast] so hanging onto the fast group really extends me much more than if I rode solo but obviously pacing is far more difficult - so I have come to the conclusion that a short to medium length ride I need to push myself with the faster guys whereas the longer extended rides I can pace myself more comfortably solo. Also setting goals is key - mine is CTS [Chase The Sun] next year.
@@BulletproofCycling That's the plan - have got back into cycling after a lengthy break but kept my general fitness pretty high but good cycling fitness is going to take time and _specific_ training.....I have the endurance but not the speed at the moment....your vids are a great help in achieving this 😉
Review: 51 yr old just finished 1st season racing vets, which was a big success following your invaluable knowledge. Will be starting next season in the scratch group, how can I increase performance on the same amount of time?
Hi coach ..I did a crit on zwift last week my first race ..my threshold hr is generally 160 ..I push it too 205(190 is my highest ) at one stage near they end ..did I go too far ..ie doing damage for future reference. ..I'm 43 and 90 kg .. I do alot of zone 2 in general and 1 climbing route a week too ..thanks
A rise of 15 bpm from your previous high is unusual - I work with people who have 200 mhr but I can only really suggest a few things - make sure your HR is working correct (battery etc) - if you are feeling unwell etc or have other health concerns then please speak to your doctor. Finally it may be that you needed the accountability of the race to truly find your real limits?
Thank you so much scot ..there had been family issue when resulted in a bereavement.my dad was ill .i was bit stressed ..it had my resting hr up a bit generally is 60 and it was 67 or so on the day ..I think a bit if race adrenaline helped to reaching that high too.. i wont lie i nearly fell off the trainer but i did win the race ...I ll keep my zone 2 going ..thanks great video i always spread the word about them ....
By far the biggest flaw with the cycling community is myth that relying on carbs and sugar for fueling is the only way to go when this can actually raise your blood sugar to toxic levels - the only way fitter people can get away with avoiding the end result of metabolic dysfunction is that they are burnt up in the muscles [the body tend to burn the trash first]. It has been known for many years that fat gives a similar energy level to carbohydrates but without the negative consequences. A low carb./sugar and a high fat/protein diet coupled with fasting periods is far healthier option. Conclusion: Never take nutritional advice from a cyclist and they invariably know very little of actually how the _intercellular_ processes work. I suggest people read the book _Metabolical_ by Dr Robert Lustig. Love your channel and your cycling fitness advice btw - top notch 👍
