Jen's face when Toothless was revealed ABSOLUTELY made my whole week!
Hiccups voice is part of his charm. One of my favorite jokes in the trilogy is when Astrid makes fun of his voice.
The worst part about that is that the dude that voices him is like 40, but still looks like he's 17. lol. They could have easily cast him in the role.
They should have him in there as a guest star one of the villagers maybe(The gobber casting is perfect imo)
Vikings were white
....
@@JuanRodriguez-tf7fh we found the hater who hasn't even seen the movie yet!
@@JuanRodriguez-tf7fh Earth Vikings were, yeah. Good job.
yeah, there's no winning. i see tons of people online complaining that if its just a 1:1 remake of the movie then just dont make it because the animated one is so perfect. on the other hand if they do change some things up tons of people will complain that they changed the story they love so much and made it worse. theres also a lot of people that are apparently complaining about a change with astrid. personally i dont care and im looking forward to this. i think its really cool seeing beloved animated characters in live action
YES! omg, I thought I was the only one thinking this, thank you lol. Like seriously, in terms of plot and casting, a live action will never win, because change too much and people are up in arms about the og, but stick too close to the original, and people think you have no creativity. Like WHAT DO THESE PEOPLE WANT. They have to pick one. They don't get both. Like you, I personally don't care and am SO HYPED for this movie.
In an interview with the Director for this Live-Action (who happens to be the same guy who Directed the animated one in the first place - SO thrilled to hear that!!) he said that they were not making a perfect replica of the animation (frame by frame) but that they would follow the main points of the general plot. He pointed out that HtTYD is a book series originally and that the animation is an adaptation in itself. With the Live-Action he is looking forward to having more screentime to work with (than with a children's animation) which will give him the opportunity to include more worldbuilding, character development and events from the books which had to be excluded for time in the animation.
He also said that this Live-Action project is pretty much his dream come true so I am very much looking forward to seeing how he tackles this beast. Sooo much fun, I have no doubt.
And since both Toothless' character design and the main score remains the same I think I will love it no matter what - some of the best Scoring for an animation in a very long time, imo, and the cutes most fun dragons ❤
So happy to see a fellow live-action fan in Jen, I am really looking forward to watching this with you next summer 🤗
Thanks for sharing your awesome

Dream come true yet he decides to pull woke garbage with the cast
@@TheRealRiptide01 A valid point. Yet, he said he specifically cast someone he felt "embodied Astrids' spirit" so I will give him the benefit of the doubt here and see final results before I judge too harshly :) This is after all not a historical piece but a fantasy movie based on books for children.
That beeing said, as a Swede, I would of course prefer an actress who looks like she would have been a part of our culture back then
@@TheRealRiptide01 no one cares
@@lzz9376 so Cavil should have been cast as Blade in the series
@@Guardian582 Now, that I would watch just for shits and giggles x'D
In all seriousness though: No, what I mean is that while I would prefer to stay ethnically/culturally accurate, I think that there are more important places to be agressive about it than in a fantasy movie for children
I think the big reason Toothless will work in "live action" is vecause even in the animation most of his emoting was done with his eyes and any that used his mouth were dumb and goofy. He isn't able to speak so his emoting is still animalistic. He just narrows his eyes, furrows his brow, drops his head and snarls when he's angry or threatened. When he's happy his eyes widen, his pupils dialate and his posture relaxes. It all very easily translatable.
The live action version was written, co-produced, and directed by Dean DeBlois. Dean co-wrote and co-directed the original How to Train Your Dragon film along with Chris Sanders, and he was the writer and director of How to Train Your Dragon 2 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. I'm putting a lot of trust in him!!
If u put it that way then the live action is not going to flop.
They both also did the original Lilo & Stitch, which the live-action version is also coming out
I’m so excited for the live action! And I love the actor for hiccup. Toothless looks really accurate so I feel like it will be good
I have a little more faith in this than I do alot of the Disney remakes only because it's the director and writer of the animated movies making it. it's pretty rare that the same creative team gets to do their animation in live action. Same composer as well which is perfect.
They basically field tested this idea when they were marketing for HTTYD 2 or 3 with Kit Harrington doing tests with Toothless
5:34 cuz thats Jay Baruchel's adult voice 😂😂😂
yea Jay wasnt trying to sound like a whiny teen thats just his normal voice
2:58 The way you froze waiting to see Toothless in focus was exactly the same way I stopped breathing watching it.
one thing that impressed me was watching the "making of" video with the director who also did the first one and his passion for these characters and this story really comes through and you can tell he cares about this project on an emotional level too and that's gonna be the magic in the sauce.
Well, bro started WWIII in the HTTYD fandom now 😂
That voice impression of hiccup was pretty good.
Have y'all seen 'This is the End' starring Jay Baruchel?
Haha I love the voice actor for hiccup, I remember when I watched Goon and realized he was hiccup it was hilarious. Same exact voice just spitting slanders and getting very explicit.
FYI The actor who plays hiccup (Mason Thames) played the main kid in The Black Phone. Great casting.
The voice never bothered me but I do agree they should've changed it up a bit for fully grown adult Hiccup.
2:30 "Anyways, let's check out the trailer for How to Train Your Dragon live action." UA-cam proceeds to play an ad for WWE on Peacock.
I mean, if something is going to be adapted into live action, I think HTTYD is probably a good choice. (Anything is going to be better than the Minecraft movie lol)
People hated the expresses nature of the animals in the Lion King remake, that clearly won't be an issue here.
Dean DeBlois, the Great. He was the Writer and Director for the animated movies, and is also the Writer, Director and Producer for the Live Action so its going to be very truthful to the original and equally amazing.
Speak your truth, Holden! His voice was absolutely grating, like perpetual puberty!
Also the director who did all the 3 films he is directing this film so I have faith he’ll do a great job in it
The kid playing hiccup is really good actor. I highly recommend checking out his performances in “The Black Phone” with Ethan Hawke
The fact they found a real life dragon for this movie is just amazing
ye I thought ya know...
that dragons aren't real
😂😂😂
Love that Holden finally VOICED his opinion
I live on Oahu where they're filming the live action Moana, we go down to the beach and watch them film so I'm very excited!
Oh no! Lol. I actually wouldn't hold that against you, Holden. You can't help it & you still endured it which was respectful to the whole creative team. Good thing you ended up loving the story! Glad this could make it better for you! I'm glad to hear it's by the original team and won't be exactly 1:1 so we get to see some new and different elements. That gives me hope :) though Jen made me realize, I don't know if I'm ready for MORE emotions with Hiccup & Toothless! 😭Her reaction made me tear up!
How dare you hate on Jay Baruchels voice! iconic lol - Can you guys watch the How to Train Your Dragon - Homecoming? No one reacts to that!
I'm sorry but Jay's voice is the male nails on a chalkboard.. Chills up my spine.
I don’t care what anyone else says about this film. I’m still checking it out. I’m glad the same director from the animated film brought back the same composer (John Powell) and the same actor Gerard Butler as Stoick The Vast in this live action film.
Still wish that he could’ve brought back Cate Blanchett as Valka, Hiccup’s mother.
I would love for America Ferrera and Jay Baruchel (the original voice actors for Astrid and Hiccup) to make cameo in this.
Mason Thames and Nico Parker are both perfect casting. Hands down!
Some people were upset about the casting of Nico Parker as Astrid, because Astrid’s white with blonde hair. Nico isn’t black, okay? She’s 75% white! She’s mixed. Who cares? At least she’ll kill it! If you people don’t want to watch it, then don’t watch it! It’s not like anyone’s forcing you to watch it!
I wonder what else Universal Studios & Dreamworks are gonna do a live-action reboot next? A live-action Monsters Vs Aliens? A live-action Megamind? A live-action Shrek?
Matthew Thomas is the one playing hiccup in the live action movie
You're not totally wrong, Holden. That could have been Hiccups voice in the first one, but as you age, it should change.
I agree that voice actor's voice was like fingernails on a chalk board.
I ❤ Hiccups voice.
sadly one of the directors said they are only picking key parts out then going with their own version of the story. so they not staying faithful, it is like they never learn.
Almost at 300k subs😮
Idc what people are saying. I WILL BE GETTING MY TICKETS FOR IMAX IN ADVANCE AND WILL BE THERE ON JUNE 13TH WHEN IT DROPS
they have said it not a complete 1 to 1 adaptation, only a few key scenes will be shot for shot the same.
Happy Thanksgiving
I recommend you guys watch The Wild Robot, think Jen would really get into that
Toothless looks like Toothless. That's the biggest thing. It's always so jarring when these live action remakes try to change the way the characters look and feel. (Like Sonic as a great example. Lion King is another one) In this, they kept the charm of how Toothless looks.
I'm really excited for this movie.
Ps. Yeah, agreed that Jay Baruchel's voice is super annoying.
Think studios learned from the whole Sonic dilemma
You were not the only one who thought his voice was rough. It grew on me, but initially took some time to get used to.
@2:15 - Jen's joy is my joy and i'm super stoked for this specific live action 🤣... the only truly terrible live action adaptation imo is the lion king ... that movie could've been so much better in that they should've just made all of the characters humans living in an african/serengeti tribal society and the animals could've been symbolic or even like their super power? there's a lot of african lore they could've drawn from to make that film unique and yet true to the heart of the original animated film. total missed opportunity in all honesty, but the rest were fun or at least cool to see in live action. how to train your dragon is the one that i think has true potential to be better than the cartoon [which i know feels impossible right now but i really hope dean dubois knows what he's doing].
I watch reaction to see how others feel about a movie of music. I support someone's right to their opinion.
So excited for the new soundtrack
teaser for stitch is out
I say the exact same thing about his voice, only instead of his voice changed for the better on the next two I change the way I feel about it! So now I don’t have a problem with his voice.🤷🏽♂️🤣
5:30 Damn, that's just Jay Baruchel's voice though - and he's an adult. Ouch!
This animation looks like the movie, Beowulf. Worth a watch if you've never seen it.
I like this part lol 2:04
For some reason I felt like Stitch would be easily translated. Jumbo and Pleakly I'm worried about. Gantu I can see translating well too.
lol I didn't expect that critique of Hiccup's voice. It just never stood out to me. But if you don't like it, that's fine.
Why does Holden have stuff on the top shelf and Jen doesn’t? Where’s Oppa?
Here’s another request for The Legend of Korra. Please give the first two episodes a try and decide to do the first season. Let’s bring back what started it all (for me) on my wife watches, Avatar!
This movie is getting some backlash because they casted a mixed race black girl as Astrid and as someone who've watched this and fell in love with this series when it first came, I really don't care and people should really get over it. The *only* thing that was worrying me or at least made me hesitant was the design of Toothless(Before I've watched the teaser) and when I watched the teaser, I got emotional and became happy that they designed him right. Idc if the casting director casted an actress whose Asian, or Hispanic, etc. , as long as the actress stick to the character of how she was written, I'm good with that.
And America Ferrera voice Astrid which is the funny part, guess it’s only ok if not on screen lol
For arcane, would HIGHLY recommend watching in either totality or 3 episode burst videos
They're watching it exclusively on patreon.
02:04 studios sure want to lose money these days 🙄👎
I’m with you on his voice. I didn’t hate it like you did, but it felt off for a Viking voice I guess
MMmm faithful indeed... but wait until you see Astrid tho 💀💀🤣🤣
Question for jen. Are you going to get a black cat and call it toothless?
The Wild Robot 🙏🏻
Can’t wait
For me I liked the nasally voice and that is something I will have to get used to when listening to this new movie but my biggest detractor is that I hate the copying of the wardrobe for the live action characters because it makes it just look like a fan production instead of a big budget movie production.
OMG you hated his voice!!?? lol j/k I don't blame you that it should have sounded a pinch more grown by the 3rd movie. That said, the movies were awesome and I can't wait for the live action version.
Not excited about astrids casting but the rest of the movie I'm all for it
We need original movies
I feel so vindicated about Jay Baruchel's voice! Oh my god is he annoying! I'm glad someone else had the balls to say it.
Pretty good impression aha
Actually I was more interested in 2nd one, see it they keep in live action our favorite brother of the night's watch
I didn't like the live action Lion King because they took all the fun out of it. Don't take an animated fun movie and take out the things that helped make it great. Like with Mulan and removing mushu... whats the point
Please make a trilogy live action movies directors
I can’t wait to watch the new How to Train Your Dragon this should be fun
Apparently the twins don't look alike, which is kind of understandable. It is extra hard to find actual identical twin actors of the right age and with good acting ability. Also, Astrid isn't pale and blonde. Which had some negative backlash from both racists and those who want the movie to look exactly like the animated version. I think they probably should have found a blonde actor for the role, based on the backslashes with previous remakes with race swapped characters. Less controversy, more people will go see it, because there are lots of people out there who decide not to go see it if there's any kind of controversy attached to the making of it.
@@evanflynn4680 so the twins were never identical anyway (because one was male and one was female) but I disagree that neither of them look like their counterparts. The actor playing Tuffnut DOES look like his animated counterpart, however the actress playing Ruffnut not only doesn’t look even a little bit like the Tuffnut actor, she looks NOTHING like the animated version either.
Also, as for Astrid, whilst I have seen the backlash being ‘she isn’t blonde and pale’, a lot of it has also been ‘oh they’ve cast a black person for a Viking role’. Which is just… odd because her heritage is more white than black. Her dad is British (and I think his parents were both white British) and her mother is also half British have been born to a white British father. Yes she has some African descent (from her mother side) so she’s hardly what I’d consider ‘black’, at most she’s what you’d consider as bi-racial. Hell, Astrid wasn’t even a character in the books, at least from what I’ve seen other people say so it feels like a weird thing to get annoyed about for her casting 😂
NOW, is Craig Ferguson playing peg leg homey again?
@@laffingist218 no, it’s Nick Frost which I think is EXCELLENT casting
hiccup voice was hiccupy
You guys should check out arcane
I really don’t comment on these things…
Hiccup looks WAY too old for the 1st movie. The actor looks like he's in his 20s when he should be in early teens. Toothless looks perfect though.
I didn’t like hiccups voice either, but damn not as bad as you didn’t like it, wow…
You're right Holden, having a grown ass man with the cracking voice of a young teenager was pretty boring :'
Peeps who talk like Hiccup unsubscribing rn LOL
React to Transformers one
Chills. Every time I listen to the soundtrack. Chills.
voice
The voice of Hiccup never bothered me, but I can fully understand someone not enjoying it. I have high hopes for this adaption and am open to both a very faithful adaptation or an adaptation that chooses to do some new things. Dreamworks hasn’t dove into the live action remakes before this so I would like to think their first attempt should be something special. Or it could be terrible. Who knows at this point.
Imagine if Holden had watched the eight seasons of Hiccups television series.
You should check out the first look video. The casting of Nico Parker as Astrid is an issue for some people.
@@EretsiM I’ll be honest the Astrid casting doesn’t bother me too much. I’m more worried/annoyed at the casting for Ruffnut 😂
yeah they took toothless and all other characters from the animated film but its a shame that they couldn't do the same for astrid who is some how been turned into a black girl with brown hair and brown eyes
Whilst you’re entitled to your opinion, Nico Parker (the girl who’s playing astrid), she’s not black. She’s mostly white (her heritage is British with Spanish and African descent, and even the African descent isn’t full African, it’s British-Zimbabwean). So she’s literally more white than black.
As for the rest of the cast being the same as their counterparts, the twins look nothing alike, and whilst the actor playing Tuffnut looks somewhat like the animated character, the actress playing Ruffnut isn’t even close
@@nickcollins5191 shes still black thats not an opinion its fact
@@scottosborne2915 If anything she’s mixed race with again, her black heritage being on the smaller side
Saying “she’s black” without looking at the larger picture of her heritage or even acknowledging her other descent is just disingenuous
@@nickcollins5191 no point in talking to you cause you just don't get it ho by the way they should make a film about Martin Luther King Jr and cast a white guy to play him would that be ok with you
@@scottosborne2915 of course a white person playing Martin Luther King Jr wouldn’t be okay, because he was a REAL person. The person of Astrid is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER my guy, the argument you’ve made doesn’t compare
Also, and again, I can’t stress this enough, you seem to be the one who “doesn’t get it” considering you’re complaining about an actress being cast because she black when she has a mainly/more of a WHITE background/heritage
Voice critic is just wrong thought the voice was actually great and added to hiccups personality
First!
Second
I like this Hiccup better. Jay Baruchel came of as a careless dimwit. This guy sounds and looks anxious
This actor was great in the black phone and incoming, I have faith that his hiccup will be good too
@@mocmylovsame here & I didn’t mind Jay Baruchel doing Hiccups voice in the movies & show
Looks like the movie Mine Craft will be better than watching the black viking Astrid 🤣🤣
While im skeptical about the casting, I will still watch this for the sound track 🥹
Same. Vikings are white, not black or mixed. But it's best not to bring this stuff up on UA-cam.
@@TimothyMills77omg you’re acting as if this is a historical film. It’s not, it’s a live action adaptation of an animated movie and if the director of the movie chose her for the role then I don’t see the problem.
@sicmundus2348 oh please, if a film about African culture got made and a white dude with dreads popped up, black people would complain for months. I'm not trying to sound racist and I do like the actress they chose for Astrid, but why are they race-swapping all the blonde female characters in everything? They did this with Percy Jackson and they'll likely do it with Tinker Bell next (unless they already have). Then Rapunzel. Then Honey Lemon as soon they make a live-action Big Hero Six, and so on.
You know there was most likely black Viking right? Like Vikings are a profession not one race. Do your research before saying some dumb shit so you don’t end up being racist
@@ethanmckayreviews7779uhhh... no? Vikings were white scandinavians.
