Have been using this with my Macbook using OBS and I knew I could do this with iPad too but it was really missing a software. Glad we finally have an app for it. Will test this out as I already have HDMI dongle
Just a quick note, you have to use the power adapter that came with the console or you’ll get an error message saying “use AC power adapter that came with console” only sharing cause it happened with me when I was trying to connect my switch. Other than that everything else in this video is legit and helpful
Sooooo, idk if you care anymore since you comment this, but the app IS officially on the App Store and it’s called “Genki Studio.” Same app developer with same features. Hope this helps
You are not explaining the app part very well. TestFlight ok, got it but what about the part where we have to receive an invitation from a developer ? The app is asking for a code to continue, which one ?
You guys here is how to do it on Orion first you need a a iPad that is usb then you get a video capture card after plug it in your iPad OS then connect the power to a power system in your house then get the app Orion HDMI monitor then it will pop up on your screen when you enter the app but remember to turn the PS5/nintendo/XBOX
This is amazing once I can I would ask for the lil dock add on and attach to my iPad then I can begin with playing I just have to know which app to get so I can use it
This is GREAT INFO and will help a number of people in certain situations and won’t for others. The tech is there and thanks, Dan, for showing us how it all works!
Has anyone tried this with a galaxy tab? Or used the ugreen usbc to usbc capture card dongle with either an ipad or galaxy tab? I see a lot of posts questioning the "why"? 1. It's just cool. 2. Saves you from also having to carry a portable monitor around in addition to your tablet and/or laptop. 3. Bigger (and/or better - e.g. oled) screen than what is there on device. I still think an in-built video-in usb-c is what all tablets should just come with inherently, but in the meantime this is as good as it's going to get.
Does anyone know if absolutely need a capture card or can we get by with an cord that has HDMI on one end and USB-C on the other? Thank you in advance!
Question! While the iPad is connected to the Nintendo system, does it charge the iPad? I ask because of the iPad battery life. It’s good! But then I can’t charge iPad while playing. Thank you 🙏 😊
This is great. I am sure someone like small rig will come out with an iPad case that has a capture card built in and then use this as a camera monitor. Just like the seemo thing
This would be more useful for something like the Xbox Series S than the Switch that already has a screen lol

It’s not just the larger display. With this setup, the Switch runs in docked mode, which has more power, so the games look better. Some games are almost unplayable in handheld mode due to the low resolution, so for those games this setup is a pretty good portable solution.
Perhaps, but, honestly... I have my switch on the go and my iPad on the go but I really feel like the Switch's screen is too small so... This may be a reasonably option for me in a mobile situation. I'm not likely to haul my full sized console around and I can't plug that console in easily on the go even if I did. So I an def see some uses for this.
The Switch does already have a screen, but it sucks in comparison to the iPad screen. This also allows the Switch to run in docked mode, allowing for better performance and a better-looking game overall. This is just better.
Have you tried it yourself? I am still wondering about the input lag, which could kill the usefulness of this for most gaming if it's too bad. Gaming isn't the only thing one could use this for though. External display for a camera, second monitor to your non-Mac computer, or main for Steam Deck's desktop mode or a Raspberry Pi!
Sony actually has an app for the PS4/PS5 that lets you stream and play your games anywhere via the Internet to your iPad, iPhone, PC, etc. However it can be laggy.
Any other apps available right now? I was planningto get a video capture card for this same reason but i cant get the beta for Capture Pro. Any help would be apreciated or even a release date for Capture Pro
Hi there! I really appreciate this. However, my iPad has a lightning port. I want to connect my switch so I’m using an adapter that fits, but how do I get the app? I can't seem to find it and when I try to get the beta app it asks me for a code? I don't know what's going on so if you know I'm really curious why this is happening. Again, thank you for this video, you earned a new subscriber!
BIG thank you for this info. The iOS app, Genki Studio works perfect with my Genki ShadowCast Capture Card and Genki Covert Dock Mini. Now I can play my Switch on my iPad Pro M2, paired with my Apple Magic Keyboard. Followed your instructions and works perfect.
Tried using this set up with the same dongle from amazon and a usb-c to hdmi cable as well with my switch and just getting color lines as output on my iPad. Any advice? I am on IPadOS 17 and using the new app from the developer
This dongle does that when the signal comes on or goes off. If you simply unplug the hdmi cable and plug it back into the dongle it’s fixed. (At least my unit which has the same issue)
Does any hdmi to type c work? Or doesn’t the cable need to have a specific feature that will surely work on iPad? Because I see some cheap options although I don’t know if they will work
I feel like Apple will find a way to block this.
I don’t think so. They added support for this because of external cameras and webcams so they basically are encouraging it to be used as a monitor
What?! 😂😂😂

I found an app called HDMI Monitor - Orion which works the same way and isn't a silly beta. Give that a try.
I’ve used this for setting up a Raspberry Pi, and for manual focus on a DSLR.
What kind of capture card brand are you using if you don't mind sharing. I'm actually looking high quality capture card to connect Raspberry Pi too.

Yeah
It is saying "This beta is full" for the testflight, are there any other apps to try on iOS 17 devices?
Is a video capture card different than an HDMI to USB-C cable?
Does it work with an iPad that has lighting input, if I were to use a type c to lighting adapter?
Could the latency be from the dongle? Maybe a high end dongle will cause less latency/lag?
Yes! capture cards cause some latency, I don't think higher ends Change much, if anything
I didn’t realize my magic keybpard had a extra USB-C port - nice!
Does this mean it’s possible to capture video from your iPad for content creation?
Can newer MacBooks do this?
ANY device with USB-C can do this.
Is this working on a litghtning port too? (with the right adaptors)

Can you do it without the stand?
The link says that the beta is full..
PS4 and screen share works doesn’t it already for awhile now?
Thank you for this. Is there any chance of a link to your Magic Keyboard? I did some looking, but they come is a wide variety of prices 😊
We need an update for this. Did find join the beat app, is there any new apps?
is there a way to do this with the galaxy tab
Does this work with non M1 iPads (have a pro 2020)

yes, if the camera sends the video signal as UVC

Pretty cool to use the mini-led on switch games (speaking of the regular switch, not the oled).
the latency is not tolerable, even on my M1 macbook pro.
do you have a video for MacBook Air? is it the same process?
I kinda forgot to get a video capture I have the wrong one it won’t work I will get it

Input lag kills this as an option pretty quick. I don't really get people that can pretend input lag is ever acceptable. Cool as a last resort though.

Because the switch won’t output video unless it thinks it’s docked.
Will this work on a samsung too?
