does everyone like this ? or are all the critical comments perhaps deleted ? at the risk of being deleted, I would tighten the work up - doesn't need to be this long given the text and musical material - also I wonder how many choirs would want to tackle all the random chord shifts ? - it all rings a bit too awkward to my ears - making things sound more chaotic rather than illuminating the message of the text - that being said, if other people love this, fine - I am just tired of how vicious people can be in attacking me because they think that if they love a piece of music that everyone else has to love it or else the person who does not care for it is some kind of moronic demon from hell
😅 I get what your saying beautiful human. I think a simple clear setting is valid. Perhaps in this piece the composer is trying to use that awkwardness and dissonance, indeed the chaos you are describing to portray the pain and deep struggle that seems interminable. If someone is struggling to believe those words, the simpler setting might be too short, they may need the truth restated in different ways almost as a kind of meditation stated several times so that it sinks into their bones and in they end they might end up believing it to be true.
"God never changeth"
Stephen radically changes harmony
So beautiful. That harmonic shifts and harmonic color truly enhance the deep meaning of the text. I love the music of Stephen Paulus.
This is wonderful! I'm glad to know there is a beautiful melody to go with such a profound prayer.
Sounds so beautiful! Love this piece!
Superb! Wonderful music!
C2 on the bass note wow
Beautiful. I just hope I never have to sing the song due to the extremes in the song.
✨✨😭😭😭😭
Imagine the Organ with this… especially on those low bass notes.
No, I won’t. It’s better with just voice.
