Many of the songs I like have perhaps one or to brief elements which I look forward to. Moments which 'send me'! This song has many of those elements! It's a beautifully constructed song with such a variety of changes to look forward to - one of the best from the incredibly talented Mr Anderson.
I've been listening to a fair bit of his stuff lately. I was just thinking the other day about how he's a modern day Pied Piper. Nobody showcases the flute quite like him. If he's walked past me playing it when I was a kid, I'd for sure have followed him! Quite ironic as I wasn't aware he'd actually done a tune by this name! Very fitting!
I won "Too old to Rock Too young to die " at a church festival when it came out, loved Tull ,hated the album, fell in love with it about 20 years ago, weird.
I know what you mean - it's one of those slow burn LPs that grows on you in time. It could be that it was so unlike previous Tull offerings that it was initially a bit disappointing - like you, I love it now!
Yes! The man is a brilliant and original composer, lyricist, flutist, guitarist, and one thing most people don’t recognize him for as much is his incredible energy and stage presence like no other - which like his music, it includes some very original and interesting “dance” moves and what I would even call even acrobatics I always marvel at how he could lean so far backwards without having to catch himself. Minstrel? Pied Piper? Yes to all! A literal Renaissance Man of modern music. Oh, and I forgot to mention his success as a businessman in both music and other areas. And he’s a damn good presenter/orator too. But above all that, just think of how this man has been doing all this for over half a century - and STILL is!Writing, recording, producing, and performing new material (2 albums over the past couple of years). When the sad day comes that he leaves this earth, there won’t be a piece of granite large enough for an epitaph to sufficiently cover the breadth of who and what he was. … and with that, I am now both grateful and depressed
When i was around 16yo, i discovered this band, my head crammed full of classical piano music. Ill never forget it. The influence has never left me.

Reminds me of how blessed my life has been to have love Jethro Tull since the 70s. How many times did I listen to Benefit? 💗
