Here's a project we recently worked on for BBC One. The TDA supplied much of the archive footage included in this special feature.
Marie Ashby looks back on 35 years of Radio Trent. The station was the 13th independent local radio station to go on the air in the UK back on July 3rd 1975. The station has now left the Nottingham airwaves forever as part of the merging of services between Trent, Leicester Sound and Derby's Ram FM to form Capital East Midlands.

...Loved Radio Trent, even went to the station on a couple of occasions to buy some merchandise! Sadly with the increase of multiple choice specialist stations on the inferior DAB digital platform, many cities have lost their identity with local stations being absorbed into a network!
I was a night worker in a petrol station around 1989/1990 ish and won loads of prizes including lots of Trent thermos flasks lol, and demo singles
One of the best stations this countrys ever had, John Peters superb DJ, the greatest. Couldnt agree more bring back Trent!! And I live in Doncaster.
when real local radio was king
We are going backwards as a country, what we once had & loved is slowly disappearing, you wouldn't mind so much if what replaced the old times was better but it's not.
We have more today but a poorer quality of life.
I remember when this station first started and all the preceding trailers - the great sounds of 1975. Loved that jingle at around 25 secs. They used to play it regularly.
Nice to see Rutland Radio's Graham Wright pop up there. Top bloke.
Trent and GEM, were probably two of the best radio stations this country has ever had. There are too many radio stations around today, FULL STOP!!. all doing the same thing, playing the same records, breakfast and drive with the crew/team. Hell its boring. Not another high school days hour. 'It must be all of one day since someone played Top Loader 'Dancing In The Moon Light'. "OMG!! I havnt heard that for ages, that is really really so old".
BRING BACK TRENT FM!
The original 301m/999KHz transmitter at Trowell closes next week along with 945KHz in Derby at Quarndon which were the frequencies for GEM AM currently a relay of GOLD
