Around 1973. Alan "Fluff" Freeman played a few snippets for the next week show. They were tracks by a group called "Gentlemen". The band line up had a certain Rick Fenn in it who later became a member of 10CC. The three tracks were "Waiting to Die" "No Looking Back" and "Just a Child". Three great tracks that I recorded on a tape cassette the following week and carried it everywhere. It is a terrible recording, but I have it on my phone and PC and listen to it regularly.

I too, had my musical taste and repertoire greatly enhanced by Alan's Saturday afternoon show on Radio 1 (relayed via Radio 2 as well) which IIRC, aired from 3 - 5pm. Alan also used other classical snippets for his other stings, but I cannot remember which ones were used.

A lot of what I listen to today was inspired by Alan Freeman show.
Certainly the best / most exiting introduction to a radio show, in any case!
