Still remember his weekday show after Johnny Walker , must have been around ‘72 when he had Sylvia by Focus as Freemans Fancy one week. Heard it in my way home from school and bought it that weekend. Thanks Fluff - you made the grey days a lot brighter

Around 1973. Alan "Fluff" Freeman played a few snippets for the next week show. They were tracks by a group called "Gentlemen". The band line up had a certain Rick Fenn in it who later became a member of 10CC. The three tracks were "Waiting to Die" "No Looking Back" and "Just a Child". Three great tracks that I recorded on a tape cassette the following week and carried it everywhere. It is a terrible recording, but I have it on my phone and PC and listen to it regularly.

Every Saturday afternoon, right? Right! The Saturday Rock Show, produced by the great Tony Wilson. Three golden hours every week, music-lovers, and don’t forget to state your sweatshirt size, alright? For those about to rock, (FIRE!) we salute you. R.I.P. Fluff.

Was blown away by the Ramones first album played on Fluff Freeman's show back in the summer 1976.

For those who are interested but don't know them, here are the titles of the snippets used to make up this sting:
    1) Slavonic Dance No. 8 'Furiant' by Dvorak
    2) 'Frankenstein' by the Edgar Winter Group (1 of 2)
    3) Les Toreadors from Carmen Suite No.1 by Bizet
    4) (very brief) 'Frankenstein' by the Edgar Winter Group (2 of 2)
    5) Main Theme: At The Sign Of The Swinging Cymbal (Brass Incorporated version) This version replaced the original Brian Fahey version sometime in 1971.
    6) (near the end) after Alan says "and..." 'Shipwreck' from Scheherazade by Rimsky Korsakov.
Sorry, but I don't know which recordings of the classical snippets were taken from.
I too, had my musical taste and repertoire greatly enhanced by Alan's Saturday afternoon show on Radio 1 (relayed via Radio 2 as well) which IIRC, aired from 3 - 5pm.
Alan also used other classical snippets for his other stings, but I cannot remember which ones were used.

Certainly the best / most exiting introduction to a radio show, in any case!
