      Umm he didn't really give much useful info regarding "optimizing" a wi-fi connection speed that most of us users don't already know.

      @cynthiax2874 6 років тому

      not so boring if you need the info and its up to date, thats the main thing. Hearing this helps make some points of a new modem not so important. One thing not talked about is the ability for any particular modem to be a repeater making the router much more functional by having a broader area of coverage. This to me is just as important as how many devices at what speed it supports.

    Obstacles are a huge factor in blocking signals. This is especially true in a lot of 1960-1890 homes. The walls can stop signals dead in their tracks. I've experienced this, my old home that was an multi family caused the wifi to barely reach the kitchen when the kitchen was only 20-30 ft away. The new house with the same router can get strong signals 3x the distance compared to the old house.

      Honestly this should be common knowledge know. Everyone has internet these days. And wired always get you closest to your isp advertised speed. Less switches the better. Though technically any device on wifi should be able to cap the basic isp speed. Even with older tech.

    I'm a little confused as to how routers work. I have a Verizon DSL service with 3mgb down and 1-2up (I no it's terrible) and they gave us a router with it. So does that mean if I get a router like the one shown here it will increase my wifi to however much you said? Or do I have to upgrade my service along with it?

    Hey all,
    I've got a question. I live in Japan and most ISP's here "Provide" you with a modem/router and you don't really have a choice except to use what they have provided. I've just made the arrangement to change to 1gbps optic fibre, but am not sure if the modem/router they provide will be able to handle it (since I haven't recieved it yet). Yes, I know I should wait until it arrives but would like to get some theoretical answers. My main question being the following:
    If my modem/router turns out to not be able to use the 1gbps at its full potential, could I use a third party router (say a gaming one) to connect to the provided one and get better results.
    Apologies if any details were missed but am having trouble finding answers anywhere else so thought i would give youtube a shot since many users (reliable or not) may have an answer or an opinion on the subject. Cheers in advance and a happy upcoming new year to all!

    • @SagwaTheChineseSaimeseCat
      @SagwaTheChineseSaimeseCat 7 років тому

      Not sure about modems but i would say the best router coming out soon is going to be the ROG Rapture Gt-AC5300 by Asus. which is a little better than the standard AC5300 which has less memory and less/slower ports. Just an fyi the standard one which is out right now is about $300-$400. The new one may be or probably will be a little more. probably around $400-$500.
