The 14" Automatic box worked great on high awkward ceilings, and stand-up sheets, -areas where leverage is an issue with traditional boxes.
Hardly have to push it at all. I didn't find it of much help on horizontal joints. As for the 14" width, I found it very useful as a finish coat over butt-joints that have been "beveled" with butt-board backing.
With perfect framing and perfect drywall, I do believe 12" width on a bevel joint is already enough, but unfortunately where I'm at the framing is terrible and drywall often comes with bevel defects (high shoulders). So, personally having 14" width has been beneficial to me, especially on smooth ceilings.
The automatic feature has a tendency to make a lot more mess on starts and stops, this can be mitigated by engaging the brake and swiping the box off the wall/ceiling when stopping. However, this isn't easily possible on short joints and Butt-joints.
Typically I unhook the springs (disengage the pressure) to do walls and Butt-joints. (In the video I did not disengage the springs on the butt-joint, to visually demonstrate the mess issue)
Personally I don't mind doing a little touching up with the knife as demonstrated in the video.
Certainly this is a tool a person could easily love or hate.
*Edit: Also In this Video I'm passing directly over the 8" box coat, gives me lots of overlap for a very flat smooth ceiling joint.
Is that what u use for top coat an 8" instead of 10"
I do 8" then 12". Or 8" then 14" depending on the circumstances. I have a 10, I just like more overlapping.

hello colleague, hello from France! I removed the springs on my load and finish box (not automatic) and frankly it is much better, it requires much less effort

Thanks, that's a silicone lube so it doesn't deteriorate the rubber, it's also food grade, made for kitchen equipment, from Cabelas.
The other silicone lubricants have all these warning and skulls on it, and gets all over my hands, and I'm eating lunch later.. was glad to find something safe
Drywall Vids where did you buy the lube from. Could you do a video on lubing the bazooka? Videos are always looking awesome keeping them coming
What do you think of extendable vs non-extendable flat box handles ? Which one would you prefer and why?

I prefer the non-extendable handle with a bend, as they give better leverage. My favourite is the "36" Bent Box Handle", I use that for all horizontal joints and 8' lids. I use 40"-60" extendable for 9'. I have the 60-80" but it's a bit unweildy after 60", and don't use it often. Also I had nothing but problems with hydraulic extendable handles.

I was trying to take apart my mudpump and clean out the inside but since I never did this for years I can’t pull the tube apart after unlatching it. I’ve left it in hot water for a few days and lubed it up and tried to hammer it apart but it still won’t budge. Would you have any advice on this? Thank you
@@Art416 I have the same issue, seized up. I'm going to try carefully heating it with a torch while hammering it and seeing if that will loosen it, I know it works with stuck wheel lug nuts, so maybe it'll work with a pump, I'll let you know.
Try unscrewing the bottom like if it was a bolt with side to side motion
Agonizing Mickey thanks for the advice. I have tried that and hammering it apart while attached to the vice.. I was going to try a big monkey wrench or torch but it would of caused some damage to the metal and discoloured the metal. At this point think of just leaving stuck

Does the power assist create more of a mess? Does it come out of the opening more?
It's definitely less clean, but it's manageable. Going with a thicker mud consistency helps. I'd only recommend them for commercial standup sheets, where pushing leverage can be more difficult, or for the 14" box for any purpose. Wider the box, harder it is to push.
You will see in the video how I was wiping the spots where I started and stopped with this box, that's the only mess issue it caused, but was easy to clean and overall worth it.
When you take off the springs. Does it work like a regular box?
Yes, my springs are usually unhooked, I just re-hook them when I need the pressure assist. Even on my regular boxes, I just took the springs off and was much happier

I don't have any particular favorite brand of tools, I have mostly Columbia because of the extra exchange rate costs to get other brands (I'm in Canada).
Do you even need to sand it?
Not much sanding, just surface sanding
