Not many people give Erin enough credit for her acting here. Her subtle expression of "Good, you're backing down now," at 2:16, followed by her change in expression to a nervous one when she realized Homelander actually closed the door to intimidate her instead of leaving her alone, is phenomenal.
Anthony Starr would do a fantastic job as Reverse Flash. He hits that sweet spot between unhinged to petty as hell.

well, being the ruler of the world is boring. there is no goal anymore, no social life and anyone would want to kill him.
Because he said it himself, he would prefer to be loved. This is his true nuclear option. If he loses everything everyone else will lose much more.
Same with suicidal people that haven't got a metaphorical push. They're on the edge, but most won't go for it.
It only takes a single push for things to change, and all bets are off.
It's no bluff. He won't allow himself to be controlled just to receive that 'love'.
He obviously prefers to not being a puppet than receiving love, it's on the screen here as serious as it can be. It's one thing to use it against him to save their lives against him, but to use it to actively control him? That leverage they had became almost worthless, he actively accepted to himself and prepared for the fallout, and the world would burn for it.
Starlight was a fool to push him to that conclusion, she got greedy. She's very lucky he didn't kill people close to her as a warning, because that's what I would do if I was homelander. I would be willing to spare them to keep it a secret, but if they tried to use it to actively control me, I would make it almost worthless and make sure they NEVER try that again, including a little punishment.
Based on this dialogue, you can tell that Homelander has planned this out in his own mind. He's not making random threats. Everything he said was thought out in advance and that alone is frightening.

@@karlthorkildson4650 That last bit was inaccurate, if anything he was just trying to pressure the kid into pushing him seriously, it didn't mean Homelander meant to kill the guy, but obviously wouldn't care that his son lost control so it made literally no impact on him, his son was taking too long to push him, so he was he was giving a metaphorical push to get his son to get the push over with and conclude the save.

If Homelander goes on a rampage, the miliary would likely start using compound V Edger offered to the General and will finally neutralize Homelander. He's strong, but remember how compound V made Butcher strong enough to at least physically fight him for some time? Now imagine thousands of soldiers like that piling on Homelander.
When everyone's special, no one is.
Homelander will still be stronger than any of them but it'll be very difficult to stop 10,000 highly trained "super" soldiers at once, each with varying abilities and powers and high battle IQ, working together as a team.
And yes, many soldiers will willingly take it despite knowing it's side effects, to protect their country. Many will have useless powers, but many will have useful ones.
Homelander is special but his powers come from a formula, and the military will use that formula to fight back if backed into a corner.
Moreover, they may also try to build specific anti-V that negates superpowers even if temporarily by studying compound V and delivering it via his food, milk, air, etc.
Soldier Boy's depowering beam will also be very enticing to them.
V affects everybody differently. Butcher was using temp v which was highly toxic, arguablyhad he proper V, butcher might have been Soldier Boy with laser eyes too. Soldier Boy was the strongest most invulnerable supe for decades till homelander came along. The odds of any others being even close to homelanders level is slim at best.

@@mikeb53 Butcher is roughly the same physical level as a navy seal or special ops if you want to push it and V enhances the stronger you were before so yes most 1000 soldiers on temp V if that much is able. tobe produced would definately be able to stop homelander realistically, use some common sense but obviously the plot won't allow it and that much can't be produced most likely and they would come up with some excuse saying only very limited individuals with temp v are able to be powerful as fans would want a the boys vs homelander fight

It's funny to remember in the comics the government always had weapons to kill supes. The boys themselves were basically just speeding up an inevitable. I doubt the show will go that direction but it's funny to think about the government being such a godly force that they just wait for the worst case scenario to happen.
What's sad about the Prime series is that, in the comics, The Deep is the only one who DOESN'T s.a. Starlight. The series did The Deep dirty.
