FLIGHT CHOPS DISCLAIMER:
I am a "weekend warrior" private pilot, I fly for fun with no intentions of going commercial. I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
While I’m seeing most UA-cam channels go to the wayside now a days, flightchop is definitely an exception. If anything, it’s getting better! The amount of professionalism and pride put into every episode makes it feel like a bunch of love went into it and the goal was never about the views but about the quality of the video. The amount of information in each video helps me grow as a student pilot as well. Thanks Steve for all the awesome videos and all the best!
I really appreciate this comment! We’re working hard, and the community is a huge part of keeping it going - both by directly being involved in the projects like Rodrigo was for this one, and also by supporting via Patreon where over 1200 people are currently pledging to help cover production costs!
Myles Spear I agree.
Yes, I agree, production quality is outstanding. This one reminds of a trip I have planned for next weekend flying a couple to one of the east-frisian islands. Also shallow water (World Natural Heritage tidal flats), but not nearly as warm. I'd gladly take you for a trip there should you ever come visit Germany.
Yes this channel is a breath of fresh air...
Great episode! I am from D.R. but live in the states, and I always wondered what the GA community was like there. Now I know there is one pilot in La Romana. Lol!
There is only one problem with the video, the music is all wrong, you should have put local music. People confuse the Caribbean as it all being reggae music. But no worries it was still great to watch.
The Caribbean, especially the Bahamas, is one of the most beautiful places to fly
Excellent video. That pilot is very knowledgeable of his airplane and the environment he is flying in. He puts safety first and is always thinking ahead. Very good pilot.
My wife is Dominican and we have a house in Montellano between Sosua and Puerto Plata. I spent a year there. Ask Rodrigo to fly you to Costanza ! My dream is also to retire there and do GA flying👍 CPL ME IR
We dove the Dominican last year! Stayed at the Hard Rock Resort in Punta Cana, but went to the other side of the island to dive! It was beautiful!!! Great video as always. Thanks for keeping them coming!
How in the world does this channel only have 170k?!?!?!?!
how in the world do this video have 5 thumbs down?!?!
Antonio Herrmann checking in from 2019 huge jump to 220k!
Here in the U.S or Canada we take for granted GA... great simple view of how GA is outside.
In my opinion, the key point of this video is 'knowing the airplane'. We had a modified P172D with 0-360-A1A and 3 blade Hartzel prop. 20 degrees of flap on landing max & never going
Now I need a Miami Vice drink....how sweet the water....and the tour...
What an amazing story, the complexities/challenges of living in a remote area and having a plane. He is just so intune with it. It's great to see.
Let your faith guide you Rodrigo. "Humanly Kind" would be a wonderful goal for all of us each day. Fantastic story. Great videography and editing.
pilotgil thank you!!!! GBU
It's awesome to see the challenges/benefits faced in other parts of the world in GA.
Incredible the connections you are out there forging, and the human stories you're telling; Rodrigo is a great host.
Steve, thank you so much for taking me places I would never have seen and to meet such cool people along the way.
"Rodrigo being a Pastor"
On a wing and a prayer ! lol !
My Hometown!!!
Oh man those cloud streets, looks like an awesome day for soaring.
Comanche for the win! Just bought one last month. Amazing aircraft!
What a great Comanche! Rodrigo seems like a really great guy.
Two great ways of experiencing a new country are with a local, and from a small airplane. I've been to DR several times but you've seen the place in a way that I never have. What a great way to see the world!
Love the gold on that comanche
Yes I live in Dominican Republic. You are the best
Beautiful episode brother!!! The images are outstanding never thought they would look so good, it was great having you here and you know its your home now!!! and for all
Of those who want to have the experience would be AWESOME to FLY with you
Rodrigo Lillo im Dominican! I wanna start my private licence pilot ASAP! Help!
Hi Rodrigo.. it's a small world...:) I bought the navajo from Central Romana back in 2017 and I flew it from La romana back home to Salt Lake city (of course after I spent two weeks island hopping LOL) my wife and I loved La romana and we are actually thinking of flying back this winter... PM me and I would love to chat with you and meet up once we are there.
David Story Hi David indeed it is crazy I flew from the states to DR and you from DR to the states. Would love to get together although I am in Jamaica now. Still you can fly by Montego Bay and meet. Take care and thanks for the post by the way send me a mail to rlillojar@gmail.com so I can send you my contact info peace and keep safe
Great video! amazed by Rodrigo, his story, his personality, and his english. I would've never thought he's latin american if you didn't say it, he's very fluent.
That paint job is so awesome.
Qué genio Rodrigo!!
thank you
Awesome Video! Thanks!
Wow! Great episode!
Guess you could say that FlightChops hit some light chops... 😎
Enjoyable and educational Thanks
Awesome, this is my favorite channel. Congrats Steve, been following for quite some time and is always nice to your evolution and determination to find new experiences.
Love the video and great insight into the challenges of flying in that part of the world - well done!
Wow.
Just another high-quality and awesome video. Keep up the great work!
nice video thanks for sharing.
Great entertaining vids as usual! Keep up the good work!
Its awesome to see a pilot from your own country at your favourite channel, Greetings from Chile!!
Martin Musiet un abrazote compadre!!!!! Thanks brother
Another great video! tks
WHAT A GREAT ACCENT
Great video, Steve! Thanks for sharing your DR adventure with us. Summers in the southeastern US yield afternoons with similar turbulence. I learned long ago that wearing a cap with the little button on top adds to the 'ow!' factor when things get bumpy. Keep up the good work!
Piper with 2 notches of flap is the best :) agreed. I loved watching this. Amazing and high quality content on this channel, thanks.
You deserve more subs, your edits are great and your quality is wonderful. Good vid man.
Another high quality video it is great to meet other pilots from different countries.
Amazing adventure! Had to laugh when he mentioned the Piper Tomahawk... I also did my initial flight training and first solo in a Traumahawk!
Love the vids, love watching your journey in aviation. It kind of helps me be part of aviation through your experience. Thank you for sharing Steve.
Cool. I’m from the Dominican Republic my dad back when I was 11 years old he flew a couple of piper Pa31 he flew all the models including the Panther it’s cool to see you fly in the Dominican Republic.👍
I don’t think the comments about General Aviation are true. Me being a Dominican, living in the states, I can honestly say, Dominican Republic has the largest GA community in the Caribbean! La Romana is wicked expensive to land at. Santo Domingo and Santiago are more cost friendly and more prone to GA use. Other than that, video is amazing as always!
Hi Steve. Nice flash holliday in the Caraíbas
Awesome love what your doing with your career and life opportunities
Nice very nice I have there and its a beautiful place sto. Domingo by far our ultimate vacation destination
Great video - loved visiting DR, beautiful country full of great friendly people.
Nice
I was just at casa de camp, I wish I could have been fortunate to see you. Seeing the valley next to the camp would have been amazing to fly through!
Another great video. Rodrigo seems like a pretty good guy!
Visited the DR just before Maria hit, beautiful place
Once again Flight Chop you have provided for a most enjoyable education on flying in the Caribbean! And God Bless to you, your family and the Pastor!
Yellow Hammer God Bless you as well thanks for watching!
Always sir! Hope to meet you someday!
These are some, if not the best, aviation videos I’ve seen. Such great production quality and very entertaining!
Thank you chops for sharing it. What a nice experience. I`m travelling from Argentina to Indianapolis next week and i`m looking forward to do a flight to see what it`s like to fly in another country with a language that is not mine. thank you once again!
Turbulence... cause the sky have potholes too😂😂😂
So dreamy !!
It's cool how in almost every video, I find something that makes me say, "What in the world is that?" and then you explain about it in the video. This time it was the two blue fans on the cockpit dash. :-)
Thinking back to being an instructor in a Cessna during New England summer was bad enough. I can't imagine flying down there in a piston. I flew turboprops in the Caribbean and even they had a hard time staying cool.
Awesome video :) 15:34 - the shape in the water looks like North America.
When I was a kid, I loved turbulence. It's not fun unless the baggage is flying around.
Love it ,muy bueno ,, btw always keep your seatbelt snug
Good codes to live by.
Ah man I feel your pain with the head butt from turbulence. Been there before! Thanks for the vid!
Awesome production Steve! If you ever come to Australia make sure you visit Tasmania, I'd love to show you around from the air!
Caribbean flying is a rewarding experience, especially around all that gorgeous aqua-marine sea water!
BTW, great meal!
OH ! nice, my father has a house in LaRomana and i always wanted to fly there. Now I have a contact. Thanks !
Yeah, I can think of about a dozen better choices for aircraft down there, but this guy is great with this bird. Nice vid, Stevie.
Ouch that hurt
Great vid - I've seen -28 to +36 in Niagara, Canada (64 degree differential) - mashed my head on a thermal too :-). Flew in the Caymans and the water is beautiful at 1,500 .
Captain FlightChops is Canadian? No way!
Really cool dude, glad you enjoyed my homeland😬
Nice one Steve! I'm sure we can show you a few nice things here in Melbourne / Australia as well!
Saw tropical island and thought maybe you were hanging out with steveo. Was not disappointed though.
i just came to say i like your music choices. super chill EDM is perfect for flying videos
Daniel L do you know The name of this song pls dude? Starting at 12:40
@@jaroslavondak8348 no clue. and my shazam app didn't know either
@FlightChops could you please share with us The name of The song playing at 12:40??
I never understand why people like you don’t have a lot of subs, I mean this is the best content I’ve seen on UA-cam the pride you take in your work is impressive you’re videos are honestly better than most bigger youtubers. Cheers!
Thanks for this feedback. It's rewarding to create this content even if only reaching a niche. But sure yeah, I'd love to see my videos get a wider reach... I am gonna keep grinding away... It is about tenacity to succeed on UA-cam.
Fantastic. Your vids are among the best out there, and this is no exception. If you’re ever looking for a relatively new private pilot to be part of one of these projects, let me know. I’m in!
One of my day job coworkers does a lot of the advertising for the DR tourism folks - sending this his way.
I think that plane is a little fragile for the environment its in. Seems like a high workload to keep it in safe parameters considering its just a joy flight
Ace film man, as ever. How do you fix the cams to the outside of the plane? Can't just be suction pads, can it?
Oh, boy, i trained in 30 C conditions on a piper Cherokee that had some cabin air issues. Here in Venezuela. And work on the same conditions over these islands, you make it sound like hell. Imagine your firsts touches and goes on those conditions.
OOOO id kill for a comachce like that!
Comanche!! I would love to see you do an episode on general aviation in Japan. Seems a location you dont hear or see much about in the aviation world.
Try TheJapanChannelDcom. He's an Aussie pilot living in Japan and has a whole playlist on his experiences getting into general aviation there.
Hey Steve!! It was great meeting you today, even though our meeting was short! Hope to talk to you a bit more about flying!! :)
You should try flying around Puerto Rico next time.
I dont understand the comments about "extreme heat"... here in Tulsa Oklahoma during the summer months we will routinely get up to 105 degrees (F) and 85% humidity...and those readings are taken in the shade.
Aero360Aviation wow thats amazing you also have those heats over there!!! Thats great you have that Good pilot training scenario,.....I only flew in cold weather and very cloudy in my time over at Tulsa actually flew this Comanche from over their to here
Wow that is very cool! I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video, and I especially loved how well you know and feel your airplane. What the numbers on paper say is one thing, and very good to know - but what your airplane is telling you it needs is something very special and important!
Yes, we have some extreme conditions out here, and many are surprised by it. My first solo was in a Cessna 150 on a day that was 100+ (F) and it definitely takes some getting used to and learning how to properly plan and manage, especially flying out of a short and narrow airstrip.
But we can get very cold here as well, down below 0 F in the winter sometimes. It can often be a challenge, but it is great learning and training!
That was a very interesting video once again ! :D Seams to be quite a challenge to fly GA in this place!
I find your idea to go visit pilot members of your community quite cool, it broadens our horizons. If one day you happened to visit Paris, it would be a pleasure to take you up for a ride ! :D
I would love to see the ICD10 code for cervical injury sustained during aviation activities: Initial event.
How does the fuel evaporate if its contained in the line and not exposed to the atmosphere
Id almost use predict wind or something summar to try to get general weather data. (worldwide sailboat weather)
Wow avgas must be expensive there! And I think it is expensive where I live lol
What a beautiful place! Wish I was in that heat right now. This morning, my house is 66°F (19°C) - got down to 50°F (10°C) outside last night. Supposed to warm up into the 80's (27°C+) today, so I'm looking forward to that. My body was designed for tropical heat, not this cool, northern stuff! 😁
Some crazy thermals there! I bet that would be paragliding heaven (or the opposite - could get dangerous!). I'd imagine fuel there is SUPER expensive, too.
Great vid - thanks for the flight around paradise!👍
Smitty Smithsonite dude, 66 degrees is like the perfect temperature!
Too chilly for me. 72° indoors, & I'm comfortable (so long as it's below 50% relative humidity). Outdoors I like it in the mid 80's. We only get barely 3 months of that up here in the Northeastern USA.
Smitty Smithsonite now see I don’t really like the 80s, I prefer 60s and 70s, obviously more or less depending on humidity.
yes that is how it is up in the midwest
Anything above 10'C is tropical for me
Why no GA here flight chops?
Light chop 1, FlightChops 0 :)
when are you gonna go Jamaica?
Well just put the wheels down! That was a cliff hanger...Nice landing
what is the purpose of this handle above your heads ? Is that some kind of trim ??
