It's so strange to see VFR into IMC... intentionally... without a pop-up IFR clearance. Really cool to see flying in the "wild west" so to speak with very limited ATC coverage and low air traffic. Sparse enough air traffic to be low-risk for a mid-air in IMC, so the main things to be concerned about is just how bad the weather is and terrain/obstacle clearance altitude. Having that kind of freedom has to be nice! Here in Florida it's a mess of air traffic, having ADS-B is required just to take off from the airport here!
We actually file IFR flight plans for every flight, but yet, It is like the wild west of flying

i'm puzzle, you're flying VFR but entering IMC! although you stay well above MSA to pass the high ground
In PNG we file IFR flight plans, but we don't need to be talking to ATC or on an established route. We have our own established routes or go off our own self derived MSA using the CASA regs
