Okay I've never seen a Doom player this good. I used to play this game in the 90s with friends and never saw anyone complete a single map on Nightmare difficulty. It's way harder than it looks here.
Check ZeroMaster 🙂
So you urgently need to update.
Enjoy the World of Doom today, I’m another of those guys who played the Beta when it first came out. 😊
Decino is like Neo in the matrix. as in he literally understand the game’s code and what is happening in the software as he plays
@@Pdotta1 I don't think I played Beta, but I remember the shareware version circulating before the full retail version was published. I also remember the back of the retail box having screenshots from what looked like a Beta version, where health and armor could exceed 200%. Does this ring a bell?
I look forward to this every day. Thank you for your Dooming.
Yeah! Same here, seeing this relaxes me…
I always watch it after work, it's relaxing
he's playing so well that I feel like he's dooming inside of me
American McGee was the most consistent with good levels out of all Doom II map designers... and perhaps out of all commercially released Doom designers as well.
While I do love his contributions, I disagree, the Casali bros were above and beyond
Tim Heydelaar, Randy Estrella and Danny Lewis can dispute that position.
They were the midway map designers who worked on Doom 64 and PsX Doom (whit some original exclusive maps for that port).
They had a excellent record of good, consistent and experimental fun high quality maps with some of the best aesthetic ever seen on an official release.
Besides, their maps also feel like a team work effort due this consistency. And even they created the level "Hectic" one room per person
Wow, this level ate up that mega armour
It's really fascinating watching you play Doom II on nightmare, and then compare it to your previous UV fast run to see just how different things are!
Decino you've helped condition my brain to expect a new video every time I have my third break from class for the day because you upload so consistently. Thanks for helping to develop my daily habits lmao
I like this map.
It's decently fun and quite pretty for the time.
You could interpret it as a historical castle.. or, as I do, a "Ye Olde (Your home town)" section built back in the day before people jumped off buildings backwards after taking a teleporter for a key
Impressive as always, Pumpkin man! Even thought the amount of hitscanners make the map look more challenging, you made it look like it's your typical daily walk in the park!
That's because he's methodical, practices the map, and plans out a clever route. But also because he's very, very good 🎃
MAP 15 gonna be interesting.
There better be outtakes I’m hoping.
In today's episode of "Fifty Shades of Brown"...
The name of this level really bugged me back in the day - I couldn't find the word "inmost" in the English dictionary we had at home (and there was no internet to look it up either). To be honest, I'm still not quite sure what it means, even nowadays. And as I hinted in my previous comment, this map is so brown that it could easily be a Quake level, heh.
Inmost - something the most inside
The center of hell? Kind of weird architecture...
Inmost = innermost, but said bookishly.
For the longest time, I thought this level was called "The *Innermost* Dens," not "The _Inmost_ Dens." Also, this level doesn't take place in hell just yet, if I recall correctly.
@@Schwarzvogel1 Indeed, the gateway to Hell is at the end of MAP20.
Very well done, Pumpkin Man! Thought this one would be murder with all the Chaingunners stationed around, but the level progression isn't as long winded as I remember.
I love how you put pumpkin man
It's long-winded if you play as intended, following the standard beats of UV. NM trims a lot of fat.
Can't wait for the next map! That pain elemental is gonna SUCK! Goodluck!
Unlikely but if you manage map 15 without any outtakes we might have to crown a new GOAT. Even Zero would have to acknowledge that.
I recently rekindled my old love of Doom (it came out when I was a teenager) and discovered your channel last week. I really enjoy your analysis videos, your ethos of calm, and your sense of humor. I'd love to see you do some map-making tutorials, but am happy to watch anything you upload, especially all the nightmare playthroughs. Thanks for sharing!
It was decino who got me back into doom, I had not played it since the 90's then I saw one of his videos (a mega map similar to okuplok) soon after that I got doom again.
Love this map. My favorite in the game. Fast paced with plenty of stuff to kill and a little bit exploration too. Exactly how I expect Doom to play. Good luck with hitscan city next!
You're such an amazing player that it makes your videos fascinating to watch.
Sadly, it also makes them short.
your movement and projectile dodging on this run is really sublime, case in point 1:16
Excellent job. I always loved this level design: all of the stone and archways just gives this an interesting southwestern feel.
Ah yes, the map I most hated to do as a kid.
Impressive run ducino! as always nice and calmly commenting every step, even with all those hitscanners
Hey, lets give another "thank you, American McGee!" to him for that early megaarmor, soulsphere and equipment, also this level could be a swiss cheese pain map, but no, we are 8 maps before it.
Thank goodness for the blue armor reduced your chance of turning into Swiss cheese.
Really curious how map15 is gonna go, gl gl.
pretty interesting map! and this song is pretty good
3:08 "Run Like Hell and Hope We Don't Get Scammed" is quite the line
I was just waiting for this thank you 😊
I like how chilled and relaxed you sound after acing a Doom level on nightmare. Yeah... Tuesday.
Amazing run pumpkin king! You made a quick job out of this map!
Nice run pumpkin man
Great video pumpkin man!
Weird, this looks like a memorable map, but I have no recollection of playing this ever o.o
You escaped the chain gunners without getting turned into Swiss cheese. Impressive as usual!
A surprisingly aesthetic level even though very few textures are used.
Another okay map but you did beat this on Nightmare Mode. Map looks cool, but also not that special at the same time. Good job out there. 👍
I really like this map, it's very creative and there are many different ways to play it, shortcuts or jumps everywhere. And yes they do give power-ups, which make it really enjoyable. Good luck with 15 though, going for all items + PE secret will be a pain.
I'm amazed there's no outtakes this time. Finger crossed for Map 15. It's gonna be hell trying to get the Pain Elemental secret. Best of luck!
very nice run
I normally dislike McGee maps and hitscan hell maps, but this maps always been an exception, it's a fun time every time.
Nice to see again that with the right routing, a map like this can be more bark than bite.
When I was kid I thought this map was called The Inmoist Dens because of how much water there is.
Holy shit man u flew through that
Just 2 items and no secrets. Makes it sound much easier than it is.
A breather before what's coming next. I've been looking forward to that for weeks.
A solid American McGee map.
I think this map is one of the most memorable, coziest and best in its atmosphere levels to play in Doom II.
No wonder it spawned like 3 or 4 successors.
Oh boy I'm so hyped for map 15! Decino will go for the super hard secret too? Can't wait for tomorrow.
Ooooh, excited to see you going for the Pain Elemental secret! 👀
I managed to UV-Max the map with the PE secret twice, but it was really annoying because more often than not, the PE just didn't want to cooperate so my rad suit kept running out and I had to restart the map a lot... No idea how bad it's gonna be on Nightmare.
But I wish you the best of luck, because you're gonna need it! 😅
The Pain Elemental barely moving while you're in sight is gonna be a huge problem, I think? But decino might route it so that he picks up the radiation suit after getting that secret.
You are really a awesome doom player on nightmare ❤❤. Sorry for not responding COVID ...
So in all honesty I wasn't expecting you to finish the level with that much health 71% was pretty good considering how many hit scanners are in the level although I haven't played doom two in a long time now as I've been playing wads for age's this level is actually pretty short and with the mega armour and supercharge it's actually not that bad you get a chaingun early there isn't a massive amount of items to seek out so yeah although I thought it was very likely you would do it in one attempt I did wonder if you would have at least one death in this level simply because of the chaingunners and the revenant like in my head thinking having too much health chipped away and getting unlucky with a revenant missile. Anyway really enjoying watching you take on doom two on nightmare it's nice to see you play through the classics I myself have started playing haste after which I plan to start micro slaughter community project so that should be fun and with that as always cheers for upload decino
Go go go, Decino!
I imagined this would be a lot more complicated than how you made it look. But I guess this is the difference between a pro (you), and a casual (me) :D
See that chaingun at the start pillar? That one that could end me 100 times over and over again. I envy you in a way decino
Lite TNT: Evilution, said either a friend or my conscience, this one and the next.
Professor Pumpkin does it again.
Zero deaths on a hitscan hell map~
so many hitscanners like on the E1 of Doom 1, but here you have a plasma which is awesome :D
I already feel the pain. Map 15 is also hitscan hell, then you're going to the broken secret +100% items... ahhh GOOD LUCK!
The inmost dense zombies and their hitscanner attack. Still, it's a force to be reckoned with.
Map 15....I agree with you. Items all over the place and the 100% secret count...it's gonna be a pain in the ass to deal with. Yeah, needs some serious preparation before doing the real deal. Good luck with that.
After Dead Simple, this might be the most referenced map in Doom 2
I am excited to see decinos nm run of the plutonia version of this, Neurosphere
These American McGee maps, they're like a knife fight in a telephone booth. Very confined.
Nice one 'lil D
Decino happily dealing with mortal enemies! 😊
It's funny that you kept picking up medikits and stimpaks and yet stayed around 50% for most of the first half. Brutal.
Me too! Counting the minutes down to 3pm EST
Absolutely awesome, if i might say so. You knew the map, didn`t you? )))))
I've only just realised how similar Scythe's map 15 is to The Inmost Dens.
Hey Decino, love the Doom content! Just had an idea for an interesting challenge. Chances are, somebody has already thought of this idea. But what if someone were to do an Ultra-Nightmare style run of Ultimate Doom and Doom 2 respectively. The idea is that you have to beat all episodes and missions without dying and if you die on say, episode 4, you have to start over on episode 1. Secrets are optional, but it must be done on nightmare from start to finish, from episode 1. Die from any point and you start over at episode 1. I'm sure this will be a cake walk for the masters, lol. Again this is just an idea for anybody to try. Love to hear any feedback! Have a good time!
That does sound like an interesting challenge. So basically, you'd be doing a single segment run, and _not_ pistol-starting each level?
That sort of run would potentially be even _more_ challenging on Nightmare than pistol-starting each level, because if you finish a level with only 20 health, and the next one is a hot start with plenty of hitscanners... ouch.
I imagine that Episode 1 of Doom would be particularly brutal, especially E1M3. However, the best way to approach a challenge like that would potentially be a somewhat pacifist approach, avoiding combat as much as possible.
@@Schwarzvogel1 Yeah I could see how most of the run would end up mostly a pacifist run. But even then, going from start to finish...
A challenge like that would be less intimidating if you were to do it on Ultra-Violent with fast monsters enabled. At least you wouldn't have to worry about respawns, but health would still have to carry over. But then it wouldn't be Ultra-Nightmare. It'd be like Ultra Ultra-Violent or something lol. I just thought it'd be interesting to see someone do. I'm no expert in the game to try it myself, and I've only beaten Doom: Eternal on regular nightmare, but I do enjoy the content such as this channel and I'd think it'd be really cool to see Decino and other good players blaze through an Ultra-Nightmare run of the classic Doom games.
Thank you for the loves Decino! Have a good one!
I thought it would be a total pain the hitscan because the level is pretty well made but no, good job!
(Just ignore the little room with the rocket launcher pls)
decino taking by surprise the surprise behind the door: 1:57
good luck, pumpkin man
Anyone ever wonder what the aractrons don't drop plasma ammo? The spider master minds should drop chain gun ammo a the cyber rockets.
Cuz it would be easier
I always find the clear separation in mechanics between the zombies and demons pretty interesting: hitscan vs melee and projectiles is the main one that people mention, but there's also infighting with themselves and dropping ammo. Are there other differences?
@Sus [DOG ARMY] [PMXD Leader] [AL] [ACH] [AY64] I don't think it necessarily has to be easier. After all 2016 and Eternal drop ammo from chainsaw kills and both games can still be absolutely brutal. Could always have the ammo on map adjusted to be reflective monster drops too so its not over-saturated. Mastermind could drop 20 rounds instead of 10 since chaingunner already does that. Energy cell pickup gives 20, so have maybe arachnos drop 10. Have cyber drop maybe a box worth of rockets (5). And have archies drop a megasphere because fck archies.
I've thought about it before, but I'm glad they don't. Reason being, plasma cells are also BFG ammo. Which means that killing only a few Arachnotrons would let you cheese fights pretty easily
@@NTAD no shit they are the modern not classic ones
Fun map on Nightmare
Finally!
Wow you're going to do the Zeromaster trick for map15? On Nightmare? That'll be interesting!
I'm just now realizing that American McGee is not the name of a movie or just what they call those Alice games, but that's actually somebody's name... I feel stupid, but at the same time amused..
In his words: his mom was a very eccentric and creative person.
I've played Doom 2 a bunch casually and I have no memory of this map lol. Reminded me of map 15 from Scythe even though that came out a decade later.
Watching you do this on nightmare WITH active commentary is comfortably similar to Technoblade's videos, thanks pumpkin man
I'm a little surprised by the love for the design of this single-texture level. Has there ever been an explanation as to why id let the level design be so all-over-the-place for most of the back half of this WAD, which was supposed to be "on earth," presumably in the modern era?
Yeah, if you dont memorize the location of all health packs, you're in for a world of hurt. Decino makes this look like 'hey not too rough'
i get whiplas whenever you say "medikit," it catches me so off guard. i'm used to "medkit" lol
It's what they're called in Doom!
@@decino i know, it's still so odd to me. i don't think i'll ever get used to it, lol
Medical kit. Medic kit. Medikit!
Is it weird that I only just now noticed the blue highlights on the Doom logo on the title screen? They reuse the same logo as in Doom 1. but the Doom 1 titlepic has a red background that makes that highlight look whiter. Doom II's darker background makes it look weirder to me, but I suppose not weird enough for me to notice it earlier.
I was talking with John Romero today about your videos and he said "I like them but I wish he'd call his viewers imps and go 'What's up imps!' or 'Grrreat to see you imp gang!' at the start of every video." I laughed but I think he was serious.
Slayer is back at it again dominating these fast monsters..f**k nightmare mode 🤣🤣🤣 GG
I remember, this was the map when I wished all devs to the hell on nightmare... :D
Greetings Decino! sorry for not comment in your lasts videos, i was busy
Oh hey, it's "binnenste dierenholen" again :D
i love green armor. in this case. im still waiting when i see you with 200% green armor :D or a no megaarmor -run >:D
No matter how often I play this map I end up getting a bit lost trying to find my way to the exit.
Okay decino, here's an obscure one:
On Doom 2 master levels map 19, The Black Tower: in the central area that has the giant spiral staircase, there is a switch about half way up that raises the platform with the supercharge. At least when I play, if you hug the wall while ascending that staircase an invisible demon will block your path and claw you to death when trying to pass by that switch. Is that some kind of, everything has infinite height in doom and it's a demon that you just can't see attacking you from another part of the level or something?
Don't remember the map that well but aren't there enemies inside fake walls?
Oh maybe, not sure. Oh well, I'm sure you'll figure it out when you do your 100% playthrough of the master levels right? 😉
I, uh, did those 2 years ago and still don't know.
Mega armour? Plasma? Early chaingun!
Happy 900th video! I think
900th video already? That’s amazing.
Yeah crazy right?
So, Neurosphere from Plutonia is like "Inmost Dens 2.0"?
decino is going to activate The Inmost Ducino to destroy this map.
Do you consider making analytic videos on Heretic and Hexen? :)
Nope, not interested in those game. UA-camr @Dwars did analysis videos on them that are worth checking out however.
Arch-Vile's aren't as scary on nightmare because everything respawns anyway, not saying their respawn ability can't be annoying. It just doesn't carry the same weight though.
The problem with archies is they have unlimited range.
@@1pcfred Only once you shoot them. Before you shoot them their range IS limited.
@@chairslots3792 only before you shoot them. After you shoot them their range IS unlimited
@@br2485 That’s literally what I said but the other way round 😂😂
@@chairslots3792 when it comes to archies there is no before I shoot them. Because I target them first. I keep at it until either they're dead or I am.
OMG those hitscanners are brutal!
Decino: ...run past the baron...eat damage from a hitscanner... run past the revenant... eat damage from the hitscanners... shoot the imp while eating more chaingun...run past a gang of MR EATEMUPS... take 50 damage from a point blank shotgunner...
Lol
map15, get ready for true rage of decino xD
Mega-Armor and minigun early on? Demons, I have a bad news for you...
Time to get hitscanned!
I was expecting this to be harder too😅
Are we getting Nightmare Final Doom?
Would it technically be possible to get the secret by linedef skip other than the pain elemental? I know that the pain elemental causes a linedef skip, but is there another way to intentionally cause the linedef skip? Or are the other methods up to chance?
That secret has nothing to do with skipping linedefs. The secret sector is too thin and your origin hovers above it because the teleporter is elevated. The PE causes your origin to briefly drop down and touch the secret sector.
@@decino Ah got it. Thanks for the clarification.
Did the Nightmare video cover what happens when an Arch-Vile resurrects someone then you kill the monster they resurrected?
Do they respawn where the Arch-Vile resurrected them or are they always resurrected at their original location?
They'll always respawn at their original location.
Best map in the game, IMO. Such a crisp and streamlined level, courtesy of American McGee.
I'm curious if you'll ever do a Nightmare playthrough of Doom 3. While I think it's the weakest game in the franchise, its Nightmare difficulty is really interesting - constantly eroding health, but you start with the Soul Cube.
Not decino, but there's also the no commentary runs by patologTV, especially the redux for the vanilla game.
