This one and Luciforms off of Octahedron are the 2 most menacing Volta tracks ever committed to tape IMO. Love em both. I still think this album might be slightly cursed though. Haha.
On a trip in Jerusalem, Rodriguez-Lopez purchased an archaic ouija-type talking board at a curio shop as a gift for Bixler-Zavala. Dubbed "The Soothsayer", the board revealed stories, gave names and made demands, as the band was contacted by three different people who appeared in the form of one, who was then referred to as "Goliath". Taken from Wiki. Definitely cursed IMO, but I keep listening to it more and more
The Mars Volta is aeons ahead of all of us. We will be withered and gone when the public truly appreciates what's going on in these songs. I say this because they set a bench mark in musical complexity that is unrivaled, unbeatable in their own game. Viva la volta!
its my favorite mars song on goliath!! i could never say craziest song ever, just listen to tetragrammaton or cygnus again and u will think that they were always this crazy! everything omar touches is gold to my ears!
That switching 6-5 meter is seriously the backbone of this song. But then the transition into a new theme at 6 minutes in just takes it to the next level. I have been listening to this album since 2009, and I still can't figure out what these guys saw that created this; but whatever it was it was absolutely terrifying and awe-inspiring in the same.
I absolutely love how he says "It's only a matter of folding time and space." Because the earth is ginormous and it as a hard time bending time and space, the sun gets there and even though black holes do a better job, as far as I know, the only special thing they do is tell time and space to switch roles and form a prison to all matter and energy.
AnteConfig The entity they contacted wanted them to fold time and space, using music. I think the entity wanted a new body to possess, and through this album, through the act of engraving itself into the music and eliminating time and space by creating a single moment when you listen, it can reach more people. Then again, when I was really into the Mars Volta, I was also into tripping and the occult. I've only recently come back to it because of a post I've seen about this album being influenced by a demon. The strange thing is I sort of thought the same thing in the past. what does it mean by "warning all who pass this note"? "It's only a matter of folding time and space before I become your epidemic"
compairing mars volta albums is impossible because they each have a different sound... everytime you listen to one of their albums you find a new favorite song or breakdown or solo... and yeah to say ones better then another is kind of impossible if you really really really love the volta Tremulant EP= AMAZING Deloused= AMAZING Francis= AMAZING Amputechure= AMAZING and BELAM IN GOLIATH=.....AMAZING!!!!
Day of the Baphomets has a very similar part. I love how they took what was already the most insane part of the most intense song off Amputechture and said "yes but more"
I'd say they're taking the same sort of sound they had in Amputechture and perfecting it. Amputechture was a dissapointment, admittedly this is not as different from Amputechture as all the previous albums have been from each other, but it is certainly a big step up from Amputechture and not a disapointment.
i dont want to heard more song of the album come on guys lets wait 8 more days i know its hard but heard the song its like take off the "Bedlam" of "The Bedlam In Goliath" come on dont risk the surprise of the album
1:28 all the way. been listening to tmv since 2007 and that part FINALLY got me into bedlam. deloused is still their best by far though. so much more organic than their other stuff.
Does anyone know why they never perform this song live? I can't find any evidence of any kind of them ever playing this, and their site used to have a list of all their songs and a number of times performed live on each song, and this one never went above 0 that I saw.
THE BEDLAM IN GOLIATH RECORDING SESSIONS- Cedric: HEY- WHO SPILLED LIQUID LSD ON MY AT THE DRIVE-IN SONG?! Goliath: My bad Cedric: Fuck. >:| We'll play it anyway!
@Carlosonebillion I'd say it's either because the band doesn't like it, or the song is so difficult to play that the band keeps messing up so they don't bother.
its impossable to say which is better. they all are diffrent with diffrent players this ablum would be completly diffrent if they had theador drumming and you opinion would change on TBiG. likewise its impossable they are all amazing
yeah some guy i met smoked a blunt with thomas...he smokes hella weed...they all do pretty much not as much as thomas smokes but thats all he does is smoke weed...not like opiates or all that stuff...cedric even requested a blunt from the crowd for thomas
Nothing actually, Ive watched an interview where he States that most of his lyrics are meaningless and don't make sense...he just likes the way they sound together. It kinda turned me off on ' for a while but whatever.
@@eldewgzborracho7653I kinda don't believe that. I believe that a lot of his lyrics are chosen more for their cadence than their meaning, but a lot of the time there's some really clever wordplay going on.

Tripping to this is insane.
If you close your eyes you seriously feel like your being thrown through time throughout the song.

its cursed but there's also a lot of brujeria reference in the music and art so there's wards protecting you
Totally, this track always sounds like it's trying to bring my dashboard radio to life so it can rip itself out and run away

Jazz flute solo!

SICKKKK drums!!!!!!!! AMAZINGGGGGGG
hehe, took me a while to like this song but it is growing on me.
How come no one has said anything about the intro of this song?!? The drums at the beginning are some of the craziest I've ever heard
Pure eargasm!
Me neither, but Cedric's wordplay is untouchable!
I have to admit, bedlam is the album I like the least but this song, omg this song. Craziest intro, love the drummer's style and intensity
dude. yes.

the 2nd half of this album is so weird, in a good way.
wow, this song is amazing
this guys never dissapoint me!!! they are fuckin sick!!
I'd say that each album sounds like TMV all the same. Each one is different and unique.
This vid is pretty good bro great job
The part at 6:43. UNF.
Amazing.
+ShadoSiren indeeeeeed , favourite part. it sounds like coltrane
the mystic adventure of a ancient travel

They played it at the bill Graham theater in San Francisco on new years eve sometime around 2009 I think
im pretty sure they played it here in melbourne in june but i might be mistaken. apparently it will be on the australian dvd?

the first measuer is 5 counts and the next measure is 6 counts and it repeats
@Jordy0h Octahedron was WAAAAYYYY different from the heavy format of frances, amputechture and bedlam. They sorta returned to their roots.
upvote that shit
can anyone hear whats being said at exactly 5:55 to 5:56?
sounds kinda weird
