Thank you so much for this video. In June of 2000 we went to Sweden to visit friends. They had a summer house on Orust. We sailed around the nearby islands. We explored. We shared a meal outside overlooking the sea. Our host played his accordion. The daylight lasted until midnight. I will never forget that experience as long as I live. Magic!
I love watching your channel because both of you inspire with your brilliance. Aladino, with your amazing skill as a craftsman, and Maya, your ability as a story teller mixed with your passion, eloquence, and willingness to share are a true gift. Thank you 🙏
Sweetheart, you play the fiddle and the violin, and you do so most beautifully. I hope you have more of the duo between the gentleman and yourself, as I would love to see and hear it as. I am a great fan of Celtic music, being of Irish and Scottish ancestry. As to Aladino's comment about having no schedule to get someplace, I have long since retired, and as I will soon be eighty-four, my favorite comment is, "I'm retired, and I have no place to go and all day to get there." My wife has dementia, and she, as do I, absolutely looks forward so much to your Friday publications. Please, young lady, keep up the magnificent work.
Merry Christmas to you and the boys, Maya, from all of us on Risö. Thank you for all your kind words and you are always welcome back. It was truly a wonderful evening. Every piece of the puzzle fell into place. The sauna is awaiting you.
Your story telling is again poetry of the experience. Your willingness not to exploit every interaction on camera sets your channel apart. The narration of events is enough without being egregious. Like a book you paint a picture.
That Celtic fiddle and guitar music at the end - WOW!! It took the episode to a whole new level. A truly magical end to a magical day. If you get a chance to sail around the Canadian Maritimes and Ireland, there could be epic music-making adventures ahead.
This is hands down, the best sailing and boat work channel. It look like it could have been produced by BBC. I really hope you take a trip along the Norwegian coast.
As an Irishman who remembers 'seisiúin' in pubs in Dublin in the seventies, I can completely empathise with the feeling of joy in sharing the experience of music. And, I can see in your face the complete understanding, at a visceral level, of the rarity and preciousness of what you have lived. May you both have lives filled with such intensity!
Guys, I‘m really struggling finding words. Maya‘s description of finding new friends reminds me to our own travels in a time where UA-cam was seen in SciFi - Movies and the Internet was just coming to life. This is so beautiful and I thank you both for this!
That deer footage was awesome. Ive hunted and studied deer for years..sat many hours in a tree by myself. You picked a spot and made it happen. I enjoy hunting but like you said the adrenaline of even a deer im not looking to harvest coming in is something spectacular. An animal to be admired and respected. Stoked on your energy
Beautiful episode and so lovely to see UA-camrs being respectful to local folks and just immersing in experiences without the camera when it’s not appropriate. This is why we are patrons of your channel!
Oooh! Kärrsön I have spent many summers in the bay towards Tjörn. There I saw skeletons of deer and sheep. I dove the bay for mussels and spent many days fishing for small crabs (for fun). I really enjoy following you guys and re-experiencing my childhood summers! Thank you! 🤗 🥰❤️❤️❤️
A magical place, a magical story of discovery, people and music. All woven from the yarn of happiness. Thank you Maya, for sharing it so beautifully. Cheers. R. 😎👍🍻
Great to see you using Beilken sails. I grew up in the town opposite to where they had their loft. The Beilken family in those days, was one of the "hot" assets in German offshore sailing being part of the team that won the Admirals Cup for Germany in 1985.
Along the Salish Sea one will find ant mounds like the one on that island. They seldom get that large because the bears will tear then apart to eat the larva in the nursery in the heart of the coloney. So when you start exploring here, know that is a bear sign.
These are the Magical Moments that Your Carpet was made to transport you to.......Your subtitles called it the "Fairy Dock" which is probably where the magic came from..... lol...... I have had Spontaneous days where the Memories will live in my Heart and Soul for ever...... Just a totally enchanting video Maya, one of many that will stay with me ...... :-)) xxx ps: when you mentioned "BC" it reminded of Tom Fleming c/o Fleming Yachts on YT, and his Stunning and Informative videos of the West Coast... Well worth a watch if you haven`t already.... :-)) xxx
Your story of music and how it brings stranger to friends. I also travelled with my guitar and sailboat for a few years now. Always the same as you say it. Music brings people closer together.
Music is truly magical. Not only does it have the potential to break through language barriers allowing for meaningful interactions between total strangers, it also literally synchronizes the energetic frequency of the area it's resonating in and around. Great video!
I recognized some small islets in your video that I haven't seen for 50 years. It's a long time since I sailed in those waters, and I'm so glad that you also experienced that feeling of marvel I felt when I sailed there for the first time. Thank you for the music, it gives the final dots over the i, but also over å, ä and ö!
I smiled so hard my muscles hurt, so happy for you all…. I the way you express your journey not need have all the details for the eye…. The magic you all experiences is much fun when these happy rides happen….. just beautiful…made me smile…. Plus I use to love sail Sweden
I think you just described the scandinavian summer evening perfectly. They are always spontaneus - without a plan - the magic, warm air and the ocean - when the warmth of the summer is finally there - after the cold, dark winter (apologies of all the commas etc...) we just do exactly this - what you experienced. I am so happy you felt it and experienced it. I just wish that you would visit Finland as well - you would surely see the similarity to Canada there. All the best, love your videos!
Those deer’s are fallow deer’s. We have a lot of them in Sweden. So many that the hunting of them is not regulated. You can hunt as many as you want during the season.
The picturesque coast line of Sweden reminds me of my childhood dreams of Maine on my Uncles schooner Bald Eagle. Your so fortunate to sail the Swedish coast. Merry Christmas!
A most beautiful video, Maya--just like you--, from watching 60+ sailing channels , I have to say, to me your videos and narration are second to none. To me your violin/fiddle play must leaves me wanting more. Take care, "Magic Carpet" crew, be safe and continue to enjoy life to the fullest.
Sounds like you had a spectacular evening (and afternoon). How wonderful. Musicians attract, it appears. Fantastic. I am also glad you got to photograph the deer, even if far away.
I always feel fortunate to share your experiences. As an older person, you I learn to crystallize the moments so that they forever stay in the foreground of your memories. Thanks again. Great episode !
This is the best clip of all you have done. It's wonderful for so many reasons. I have danced to this tune more times than I can remember. And you are right, once in a lifetime. Bewell. Angus SV Violet Walters
I'm so enjoying watching your channel. I'm a few behind and catching up. This was a fabulous episode and you do such a great job with the narrative. It makes you feel like you are there as well. So enjoy each episode . My favorite channel by far. Safe travels
First time viewer and enjoyed the artistry of your video, it follows a storyline and brought a simple viewer into your journey, building to a happy feeling, reminiscent of similar special moments in my own life. Thank you for sharing.
Gorgeous! What a talented people you are.. Magic Carpet is perfection, the music, the photography, the food, your enthusiasm. I have a sneaking feeling you must be the perfect couple.
Evokes memories, from B.C. now, of charter sailing in the North Channel of Lake Huron -- and of a brief visit to the Swedish archipelago many years ago. Many thanks for this series.
Your fiddle playing is a wonderful way to connect with other musicians and music lovers. That is for sure true. Seeing deer on the island is totally different from the deer in your neighborhood. One is completely wild, the other is adapted to people and sometimes a pest. City deer are like squirrels, prevalent and sometimes destructive.
What a beautiful island! Your adventures are just amazing! You are correct, music brings people together. We give tours in the swamps of South Louisiana and at times, we have invited our friend who is a Cajun accordion player to accompany us on a tour with our guests. Most of the time, we have French folks onboard and he sings and plays French music and they just love it!! It makes for a spectacular tour!! So much fun!! Happy sailing Magic Carpet and keep those fabulous video's coming. I wait for them weekly!!❤❤
ahh, that moment at 05:42, or 08:03, or 11:10, or 15:36, 19:04, and your story at the end what a way to make that evening magical, for all of us... What am I talking about the entire video is just fantastic! I think this one is a new high in your video editing. 🙂 Thank you.
Why not listen to Swedish singer/songwriter Miriam Bryant's song with the same name. Here performed by Swedish actor and singer Sven-Bertil Taube: ua-cam.com/video/oCWo2m5A0nM/v-deo.html
The fallow dear as you filmed are probably the most elegent dear you can find. They are very gracefull. I really enjoy watching you and Magic Carpet finally at home.
Great episode, so enjoyable. they call this kind of life båtliv which is the reality, the state of mind that comes from living on islands in summer. We’re all disconnected in winter, it’s dark and cold and we tend to just get through it all. But come sumner Sweden comes out of that frozen cocoon and becomes utterly open and free. The sauna is a metaphor for sharing, connecting to nature and the ritualism of expunging through sweat that really, really is the Swedish ideal self.
That was very moving Maya. The music was magic, and you managed to convey to us just how special it all was. Thank you very much and very well done. I think I've told you before, that I used to play in a band and we played music very like that, and that you remind me very much of the woman who played fiddle with us. Nostalgia wells up. Cheers and thanks again.
What a beautiful episode! Your description of the magic of the day and evening was so contagious I literally could feel the warmth of human connection it was like being there with you guys!...Thanks so much for sharing!😘❤
Oh THANK YOU for sharing so beautifully and eloquently. We too will remember your fortuitous adventure on a magical Swedish island for a long time to come!! 🙏❤️⛵️
A beautiful story. An Island that yields up her secrets. And people who were strangers bond through common experience of music and shared culture. Thank you! You brought me tears of joy.
Don't sell yourself short Maya, your videographer skills are far better than most channels on UA-cam. I love the way each episode tells a story and your music selections enhance the narrative. You should be proud, well done!
Well this is one of the very best sailing channels on UA-cam, if not one of the very best travel channels on UA-cam, if not simply just one of the very best channels on UA-cam. The journeys of Maya and Aladino should not be missed. Now as my wife will attest , I have been watching far too many hours of UA-cam videos, sailing and otherwise, so I will claim some expertise in this judgement. Having watching SMC from the outset I am never disappointed, always entertained and I thank you both.
You guys have the vibe I love. So much respect for the others and for the present moment. It was a lovely episode. Honoring the name Magic of the boat. I am definitely missing those moments that the ocean can magically offer us.
Thank you for the wonderful story telling, and some mean fiddling and jamming with your new guitarist friend, not to mention all the scenic and sailing film!
Took me ages to find the island, by Dyrön and Tjörn. Even if I did anchor like you just beside Skutholmen this summer. I was almost scared you found a magic place in my home water I didn't even hear about :D I think RAN Sailing did som anchor between the same island about two years ago, before they passed over the atlatic and sold the boat. Your ecitment makes me so happy, I want out and sail again... With less snow....
I really appreciate you don’t take your camera everywhere. Your story telling is wonderful enough.
Yes, indeed.
Damnn! your video and audio is soooooooooo good. next level.
aww thanks guys!! been working on trying to up the quality a bit this winter :)

Scandinavian summer is something else ;-)
Magical, very impressed sailing straight off the dock😁🇦🇺
It is truly wonderful when you are open and friendly enough to engage strangers and enjoy their company. Wonderful video, thanks.
