    My favorite thing about "YYZ" is that it was one of the first rock instrumentals to give equal solo time to every instrument being played throughout.

      +Michael Vroom Rush goes unnoticed? Seriously.
      "Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units as of 2004. The group has been awarded 24 gold, 14 platinum, and 3 multi-platinum albums."
      "inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013." Yeahhh they are terribly unnoticed.

      ***** I have a bass, I sometime play it and I started playing music with this bass, but I'm more focused on guitar.
      But my bass playing and my guitar playing are sometimes mixed up and I sometimes play my bass like a guitar and my guitar like a bass.
      My bass playing is based on both guitarists and bassists. And there are so many of them. Sure, he's probably a legend, but I've never really listened to it. Maybe one day, I'll get a lot into this, maybe not. Maybe I'll find a bassist that is much better, maybe I won't.
      My point is who cares what I listen to, as long as I play and have fun playing?

    Geddy Lee one of the most underrated bassist ever, as Alex and Neil also don't receive the credit due as the world class musicians they are.
    Nice selection and I hope you are playing live, you are too good not to be!

    • @chrisbrown18andup

      Yeah, *no one* knows who Geddy Lee is.

    • @jukkaismi
      @jukkaismi 7 років тому +15

      i agree that alex lifeson and geddy lee are musical beasts, and maybe they're underrated, in my opinnion alex is one of the best guitar players in the world, and geddy too , his bass sound is pretty unique. But i don't think neil peart is underrated, he's one of the best drummers in music history but his name is well known when you get into the drumming world.

    • @woogie88888
      @woogie88888 7 років тому +23

      I think Alex is the one who gets forgotten about. Geddy and Neil are drummer and bass players, 2 positions that normally don't receive as much attention and I think that because of that people don't realize just how fantastic he really is. At least when you look in the guitar magazines where there are real musicians you get to hear people just gush over him.

    • @jukkaismi
      @jukkaismi 7 років тому +6

      maybe, because he is not like a shredding master, but as you say, people who know about music just freaks out with him. His guitar playing is magic.

    OMG, you got the false harmonics at 2:13!! I'm bowled over. When I was gigging (uh, 25+ years ago...) we never performed YYZ because neither I nor any of my buddies could figure how to get them. WELL DONE and thanks!

    • @ottjacob13
      @ottjacob13 7 років тому +14

      Those harmonics are real Tho lol

    • @rocketman63
      @rocketman63 7 років тому +19

      They are called "false" harmonics because they're not natural harmonics. They're fairly well impossible to find if you can't read sheet music and you're learning the tune by playing along with a tape. I got it all except for those damned false harmonics. Young Anna here, nailed them. I say good for her!!

    • @ottjacob13
      @ottjacob13 7 років тому +19

      They are natural harmonics created over the 5th fret and the 4th fret on both the G and D string. They do sound interesting because they are played as double stops, but the are definitely natural.

    I really enjoy listening to music with my eyes closed. When your eyes are closed you are forced to pay more attention rather than just relying on your sense of sight to do the job for you. Think about how in tune blind people are to all of their other senses out of necessity. They have a heightened awareness of things going on around them because they have come to use all of their senses instead of using them selectively. When closed, I could swear up and down that Getty Lee is at the bass. What a talent you have. Thanks for sharing. :)

      That's because on YYZ the bass is the lead instrument, it takes the bass out of it's natural role, hence you need a different mindset when playing that song. As a bassist you have the reflex to bridge the drum and guitar ... but on YYZ, Alez Lifeson if doing this, not Geddy. And the song is also very hard to play, just like most pre-Presto songs from Rush.

      It's a Music Man Stingray. Limited production, very precisely made, low action, sturdy and wonderfully versatile, especially this later 2-pickup version. Prince would not have played this. Not glitzy enough- he always felt the need to leaven his talents with ludicrous theatrics.

      Hunh? I don't see any resemblance of a C major chord.
      Actually the muting is done mostly with the right hand provided you don't play the bass with a pick, which I used to. I can remember a drummer friend of mine was attempting Dazed and Confused and that E string was continuing to ring and I pointed it out to him. "Well what do I do?" "I don't know, let me see" and I played it. My thumb was coming up over the top to mute without even realizing it.

    I'm not going to complement Anna's looks like most of the posts. This musician is very accomplished. She plays several pieces of music without reading so she is doing it from memory. I have met accomplished readers that cannot play without the sheet music. I cannot remember lyrics so I can relate to needing sheet music. She also plays different styles of music and has a broad background of songs. I would hire Anna strictly on her talent alone. The stage presence would only be a bonus. I like the studio stuff but it would be great if she would post live gigs. It would be a loss to the music world if she only plays in the studio and rarely get's out. I play live gigs all the time and love every minute of it. Some gigs are better than others. I hope Anna plays incredible gigs all the time. She deserves it!

      +Fuk Hue I agree with what you say...HOWEVER...It don't hurt one bit that she is beautiful!

      +Fuk Hue I completely agree with you. Yes, it's true, she's not hard to look at, but to focus solely on her looks rather than her talent effectively trivializes the massive amount of time and effort she has so obviously put into her playing.

      Thank you. I could not agree more. She has obviously worked very hard to achieve this level of talent and it should be recognized without dilution.

    What is up with the haters? I think she did a splendid job with a serious bit of music. I'm guessing the 248 or so thumbs-down dip $hits have never played an instrument other than the one dangling between their legs.

    This is NOT an easy cover on ANY of the three instruments. I think the bass lines are the toughest ones to nail because you have to hammer-on and pull-off like you do on a regular guitar, and that is tough to do quickly and cleanly and stay on tempo. I have nailed a few of the sections, but have yet to pull it all together. Maybe someday...

      +Six String Löve Hah, me too! Got some of it down, but I 'm still working to nail down a fair bit of it. And I play guitar and bass, so I'd like to get it on both. Or maybe I'm just torturing myself.....:)
