VIDEO & BLOG-In this video I had some time with a 2015 Harley Davidson Road Glide in what Harley is calling "mysterious red sunglo" & it is beautiful! Harley took 2014 off on producing the Road Glide, so I was excited to check this bike out! I shot some awesome video and photographed the bike.
There is also the Road Glide Special for 2015, which is essentially the same bike, but comes with some extra goodies. The special comes standard with the upgraded larger 6.5 inch touch screen version of the new "Boom!™ Box" infotainment/GPS system, a security system, and Premium low hand-adjustable rear suspension, which I like much better from experience in riding with both. Here is a free video & information I released on how to properly adjust the low hand adjustable rear suspension. The special also comes with a finished off shiny black painted inner dash instead of the matte black finish on the standard model. Note that the larger 6.5-inch touch-screen Boom!™ Box/GPS system is an option on the standard model. Harley-Davidson touring models first came out with the Boom!™ Box system in 2014 as part of Project Rushmore.
Now, although the Boom!™ Box Infotainment System is pretty awesome, it does come with a fairly steep learning curve that has frustrated many Harley owners until now. In fact, most owners of the Boom!™ Box system have no idea about the hidden menus, bugs, issues, necessary software updates, mapping integration, nor the system's full overall capabilities. The feature that most distinguishes the Road Glide from the other touring models is its fixed frame-mount “shark-nose” fairing and dual front headlights. The handlebars move inside the fairing, which stays put. On other touring models, such as the Street Glide, the handlebars move with the fairing and it is often called the "batwing" fairing. First seen on the 2014 touring models, the Road Glide now sports the upper fairing vent with a manual switch to shut it off in inclemate weather. This vent is to minimize head buffeting by putting a curtain of air (wall) in front of you, forcing the oncoming air up and over your helmet while riding. My 2014 Street Glide special has this fairing vent and I have ridden a ton. My estimation is that it reduces head buffeting by 20-30 percent, so it is well worth it.
In addition to the main upper vent are two vents to each side of the headlights, which are “Dual Reflector Daymaker LED” headlights. Harley says these headlights have significantly more spread and greater punch than standard headlights. Harley-Davidson is calling this this new three way air venting system the “triple splitstream vent”. Because the fixed fairing sits way further forward from the rider than on other models, the two additional lower vents are designed to lift the airflow per Harley-Davidson. The dramatic reduction in head buffeting has not only improved rider comfort, but also the listening quality of the Boom!™ Box sound system.
A new handlebar bend reduces rider reach by 5.5 inches, which improves long-range comfort. Revised hand controls (just like 2014 models))have improved ergonomics, and a pair of thumb joysticks helps control the Boom!™ Box Infotainment and navigation. The standard comes with air-adjustable twin rear shocks. Here is a free video & information I released on how to adjust these air type shocks.
With the Rushmore Project Harley put the new hard injection-molded saddlebags, which are the same convenient easy-open units found on Harley’s other touring models.
The 2015 Road Glide standard comes with optional Reflex Linked Brakes with ABS, which I highly recommend for all riders. Of course they are anti-lock brakes, but much more. The integrated system senses too much front or rear brake applied by a rider and evens it out for you automatically, which is critical for emergency braking situations. I have tested this new braking system out intensely in all kinds of weather and road conditions and let me tell you that this bike stops fast and it is very controlled! With all the close calls us motorcyclists/bikers have to deal with, these brakes are well worth it. The iterated brakes don't react in until a bit higher speeds. So, for those of us that perform low speed skills course drills, we won't have to worry about using that back brake and having it activate suddenly!

We have the same bike then. Mine doesn't look much like that anymore though, it looks more like an RGU. I added a bigger shield, factory lowers, saddlebag guards, amp and stage 1 speakers, King tour pac with all the lights speakers etc.. I would have been farther ahead if I would have bought the Ultra to begin with. Also after trying several seats I ended up with a stock Ultra seat too.

MemphisMike I'd suggest the special to get the linked abs brakes, upgraded rear shocks, and bigger BoomBox screen. I think it's worth the extra cash. Lurch is going to be one this fall and we will have lots of videos on it.

I have the two tone Red 15 Road Glide Ultra CVO. This is a stunning bike and turns heads everywhere. And i LOVE it. I have over 6000 miles on it now. Its funny. i am 6'3" and 250lbs. I paid $45k with the extra warranties. This bike is VERY heavy. However, with the freeway pegs, when i tipped it in the first month I had it, the bike sat on the freeway peg and the bars in the back. I had to have my passenger help me lift it up. It was so heavy and I am a strong person. But no damage at all.
The Brembo brakes are amazing. The bike does great in the twisties for a 994Lbs bike. Riding this thing at 90 up and down California is a breeze. It gets 150 miles to a tank. About 35mpg. Premium Gas only. I wear a full face helmet. Doesn't bother me a bit. I have done 120mph on the bike. Its a breeze and gets there pretty fast. What I love about this motor is that with a fully loaded bike, at 80mph, I can drop it into 5th and get plenty of go. Even in 6th at 80 it moves in traffic well.
The liquid cooled motor is hardly cooler than Air Cooled. However it does delete your storage space from where the twin radiators are now. Plus they vent out to where your feet are on the freeway pegs which carm warm your already warm legs.
I have rode in the rain and on slick roads. It does get squirrely, but has done well so far. I love the frame mounted fairing. When the wind blows, it doesn't mess with my steering. There is actually three adjustable vents. I haven't noticed the difference with open and closed really.
I put on Reinhart's before it left the shop and it sounds great. This being my first Harley, I have noticed that after a long day of going 500+ miles, the sound does get old and leave my head foggy at the end of the day. But no passenger has complained.
I like that the bike has a rev limiter. When entering the freeway in Cali i often reach it.
Then heated seats are awesome! Especially the passenger, they always love it. The back rest is fantastic. The seats are super comfortable.
The suspension is great. But with a passenger can be a bit rough because it is too soft. You will def know the road, but it is a comfortable ride.
I am not a fan of the new monitor entertainment unit. The bluetooth needs to be reconnected manually every time. The fade has to be readjusted every time as well. I barely use the GPS because nothing is better than Waze and Google Maps. But it is nice when on the twisties to have a map telling you the next turn. The stereo is loud, but rarely clear at freeway speeds. It needs to be upgraded. I guess you trade quality sound for quality waterproofing. Otherwise the system is pretty complicated and clunky. But it is great to have it.
There is no tire pressure monitoring unit on the 15, but it is on the 16. How is Harley like at least 10 years behind on this?
In the first 6000 miles the windshield cracked at the screws, which may have been over tightened. It was replaced free. The shifter foot pedal shaft broke and it had to be towed to the dealer and replaced. They had the bike 2 days. I ride everyday, so that sucked. For 50k at Audi, i would get a loaner. But the tow was covered under the extended warranty. They discovered my tired had a nail in it and because of the lack of a tire pressure monitor, it went unnoticed and had to be replaced $338.
I LOVE this bike. However, I doubt I would buy another Harley. They are overpriced for what they deliver. You are certainly paying for more name and less R&D.
Washing this bike is a chore. To keep from the bike holding water and spraying all over on the first ride, i have to wash it carefully. Today i take off the seat, and the bags and wash it like that. The pizza box isn't detachable. That would be an additional $1500 for that kit. That is stupid. The box should have come with the kit on this bike. The bags a super easy to remove, and I love that. But if you leave your bike unlocked, so will a thief. They are like $1200 for new ones now.
You can carry alot on this bike, but traveling with two people for a few days is tough. I am still thinking of buying additional luggage.
I cant wait to put a large front wheel on this bike. it will be easier to clean and look better.
Another complaint is that the key fob come in two pieces. One fob and the other with a lock/unlock button and key. Its bulky. Its plastic and feels cheap. With the auto start by fob, and power locks, etc. I think the bike should simply unlock when you walk upto it and lock when you go away. The key should be one unit and feel more like mercedes or audi key.
Having only a Super Duke and Vulcan in the past, i havent driven a ton at night. The DayMakers are very good. But when turning at night I need the brights to see the coming road. I actually just ride with the brights on all the time. It helps in the Cali Traffic.

Did you get a chance to test ride? Curious what you think about the handling of fixed fairing Harley vs. the Street Glide fairing?
I rode this one very little. However, I can tell you I have ridden other Road Glides and they handle just as well as the Street Glide
I love the RG. Just one thing though. I would put the King Tour Pack on it. Thats just me. I'm old school and thats the way I like 'em. Otherwise, its perfect.

I ended up doing the King tour pak on mine. I did the full meal deal with all the stock led lights on it, stage 1 speakers, AM/FM antenna, etc. Just as if you had removed one off of a RGU in the showroom. (with the exception of the stage 1 speakers) It cost me a small fortune to buy all the parts to do it.
thanks for the comparisons. I was also wondering about the wind as I heard u don't have to fight it as much on the road glide and there's less buffeting around corners. I also think I'd be looking at the gauges more often than the screen and it seems to take up more field of vision, so I'd prefer the street glide's ferring but I'm not sure. thoughts?
Really it comes down to looks and whether you like the "shark nose" on the Road Glide vs the "Batwing" fairing on the Street Glide. I have ridden both and they both ride great. They are the same exact in every way except the fairing. And the handlebars on the RG turn inside the faring as on SG the fairing turns with the handlebars. Other than that they are identical and you would love either.

Can you help me, i cannot get my Sena Bluetooth kit to pair to my Boom box.

True, the boombox is a Bluetooth compatible system. It will sync with cell phones. However, it will not sync with any Bluetooth headset to this point. If you want to use the voice command you must have a wired Harley Davidson headset that will plug into the pin connector.
I know it seems ridiculous and you're right it is. Harley is having a ton of troubles with the boombox, which is why all the software updates are coming out.

How much better or worse is the wind when you compare the street glide and the road glide?
Thanks for commenting Jacob! Honestly, I have ridden both and the difference is not really remarkable. I am 5-08 and both suite me fine. If you are taller, many put a taller wind deflector on them. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I'm 5'8 also and I fit on both bikes very well. I like the look and feel of the street glide more (radio in arms reach and such) but if the difference in the wind was a lot then for a few hundred more the road glide would be the "better" bike to get.

It really comes down to wether you like the looks of a Street Glide Special or the Road Glide.
Good deal. I have owned a Street Glide before. I like them both, but the Road Glide just looks more rebellious. I probably would go with that.

God damn that front end is ugly. I can't see how anyone would drop 20k on that. Shit if you finance it where you can afford it it ends up costing you 40k. That's hilarious dude says it handles like a sport bike. Harleys are the school buses of motor bikes.
Compared to pre-Rushmore Harleys, it does handle ten time better. I wouldn't go as far as saying they are school buses, more like an old school Cadillac. You can cruise a Harley 700 miles in a day and still walk when you get to your location. I'd like to see a "sport biker" try that.... You would need traction for a couple of days to straighten out your back.
