First Tesseract, now does it djent! Couldn't be more stoked. You're such a good teacher. Its awesome to see you delve into this sort of stuff as a fan of your channel and metal. Definitely playing with this later. 👌
when you said 5 against 4 and 7 against 4 I thought you were gunna do quintuplets and septuplets on the kick and I was like OH BOY! but yeah 5/8 and 7/8 over 4/4 is cool too.
Lifelong musician, brand-new drummer. Your videos have done so much to inspire and educate - I wish I'd had teachers like you for all my instruments. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, and as St Clinton would say: "Give up the Djunk!"
This is some of the cleanest djenting I've ever heard, nevermind with trad grip, you're a BEAST! This is my second time watching this video. I would kill to see you perform with a djent band one day.
Hey Rob. I wonder if you're familiar with the work of the late Sean Reinert on the Cynic - Focus record? He brought the funk, fusion and all sorts to metal. Was a true pioneer and well worth his legendary status.
I think it's crazy that when you "simplify" the top (just play quarters) it gets so much "harder" because you are on a 16th note grid...🥁🤯 Always great stuff Rob...👏
Thank you Rob for sharing this - it is certainly a very good foundation for djenting some serious sh*t! Watching this video, something clicked, and I thought I would take a moment to point out the importance of ghost notes in this genre. I personally find that when I get djenty, that the ghosting on the snare becomes the "clock I don't have to think about" if that makes sense. If you watch notable players like Tomas Haake, Ken Schalk, and Russ Russell (and you too in this very video!) they all basically ghost the sixteens and accent as needed. And it struck me as to how important they really are for proper djentiness. Again, thank you for taking the time to make these videos!
this seems pretty cool for a hi hat pattern too. doing a simple 2 and 4 or 1 and 3 back beat while applying these patterns to the hi hat could be pretty funky
Great lesson Rob. While it is a bit above my skill level at present, it offers some nice exercises to work on and work towards being able to play. I like this and it is in the arena that I have been noodling in musically. I don't know what Djent is but I like this.
Now, if you switch the top beat with the bottom you’ve got old time Jazz (almost) …. Mr Brown makes this simple as it’s broken down in its parts, that why I watch Mr Brown as he’s a great teacher and instructor.!!!!
Hey Rob I love all your Videos ,i ordered two items but I never got my discount, and I inquired to your page on this regard and they told me that you didn't give discount ,and to do it during purchase, there was no spot to put my code to get my discount on the page ,I thought your team would help out on this but ,I got no luck 😉 maybe you can look into it ,thank you my friend!✌️🥁
Thanks, Rob! I've earned hundreds of dollars with my new Djent band and bought myself a cell phone. There's another new genre called "dubstep" that I'm mastering now. I can't wait to make tons of $$ and rule the music world!😀
🚨*WARNING 🚨There might be too much funk in this djent! 😉Enjoy the lesson, y'all! #Djunk*
There no such thing as too much funk. Cheers, Rob! ✌️🥁

Rob conquered the gospel/worship world… NOW he about to conquer prog metal!

I really admire and respect your integrity and personality. Thanks for being a good role model.
Keep up the metal/Djent stuff! Love to see you diversify your playing capabilities 👌🤘
Rob is a Gentleman Agent of Djent.
It's not every day that you see a guy playing metal with traditional grip but ya gotta love it when ya see it
Mother's Finest proofed that there can't be too much funk in the metal.
You run one of the most inspiring channels.

Man that snare sounds sweet
Just started taking your lessons. Thanks dawg.

Plus his work on Death's - Human, incredible drummer!
Sean Reinert = Legend.
Damn Rob! I've only been playing drums for four months, and now you got me all into Polyrythms!!!
Polymeters :)

I’m not a djent fan but I still love that you are doing this video. Lol. I’m constantly trying to keep open minded to types of music

First time I've ever seen you REALLY smile/laugh.... even if it was a giggle!! You are a BADASS drummer, BTW!!
Siuuck. Loving that half-time feel with the washy quarter notes on the hats. Talk about groovy brotha!
Dope that you're gettin' the djent bug, it gets more addicting and more addicting the deeper you go.. 🔥🔥🔥

Always great instructions and channel. Thank you for your teachings and insight. 🤘🏻👊🏼
What a great lesson - THANK YOU!!!
Wow! That kick drum pace is impressive!
this seems pretty cool for a hi hat pattern too. doing a simple 2 and 4 or 1 and 3 back beat while applying these patterns to the hi hat could be pretty funky
I have no truck with Djent-Metal but Funk-Djent I can get with. Awesome as ever Rob, or should that be Flamuel L Djentson?
Wow. I never expect you'd do this Rob 👌
Djentrific!
Great lesson. and maybe the best snare drum sound I ever heard. Wow.
My man Rob doin’ metal?! This is next level my dear instructor! Awesome video as always!!!
Didn't know you did metal! Awesome!

Dude, that was awesome! Some Djent metal beats with a lil funk on em! I loved it!
Now, if you switch the top beat with the bottom you’ve got old time Jazz (almost) ….

What I'd do for you to cover Meshuggah's Marrow
I Love it!
Are we going to get a Stevie T collaboration? It's really cool you breaking out like this Rob. Still waiting on Bleed lol
Respect the crap out of your ability to play djent with a traditional grip. Something I couldn’t do lol
this is a mind bender lol hi from ireland
How do I go from beginner level to this. I’ve been playing for 3 years and I still can’t seem to get to this level of advanced grooving
Djunk. Nice.

Trying to figure this out in triplets (as opposed to eighths). 😩

Haha. Perfect! 👌🏽
Timing is a funny thing.
"You finish your vegan Ravioli" LOL
Thanks, Rob! I've earned hundreds of dollars with my new Djent band and bought myself a cell phone. There's another new genre called "dubstep" that I'm mastering now. I can't wait to make tons of $$ and rule the music world!😀
They all sound basically the same. When I started leading with my other bass drum then it got real interesting. Lol
DEAR LORD ROB. For your own good. Please check out TOOL and danny carey. Easily the best and most versatile metal drummer imo
Enjoy you content, especially when you go against those who sell sizzle….. if a drummer can’t hear it why buy it?
Guess dad's gonna have to put up with me a lot longer
Djent has ruined my regular feel lol. This feels so normal to me that 4/4 doesn't even make sense anymore.
Ladies and Djentlemen
Sounds like Bonham a little
Second
I love all kinds of music but opera and metal, I just don't get
A day to remember- all I want. Check it out.
I don't get jazz. I love heavy, so I love metal.
@@dontpanic9261 That's a blinding tune!!! Ok, I like some metal ;o)
I'm going to make hundreds...of pennies
As a total beginner I have one question. WHAT?????
Beatdown should skip right to Grindcore and Mick Harris’ grooves.
Sounds like you’re just playing a straight 4, with accents on bass syncopated
