Being white, I went to see this film today. Hoping I could learn more about the Asian culture. This film was more than that, it was an important lesson for all that are in the business or those aspiring to be in the business. It's not the location, it's not the ethnicity. What will and has made this film successful so far is the universal need for acceptance, no matter the race. This film wraps up this universal theme in an Asian land, but the story can be told anywhere, with anyone. And that's the point. Good stories are universal, they speak to us all - Crazy Rich Asians does that and more. Go see this film.

As for Asians ceding to the label, what's wrong with that? No recognition or some recognition for a film where multiple attempts were made to change the lead character to a non-asian face to "appeal to an American audience". Small stepping stones in Hollywood. This is a video attempting to reach a wider audience than exclusive groups. They could have listed every nationality in the title, but it'd be huge. And one does not have to be Chinese as the character's role to understand the film's themes of identity and family really. I went to see the film and it's a fun romcom with additional themes threaded throughout. Not perfect, but fun.

A diverse accumulation of European descendants took on this label and now they are shamed for even mentioning wanting to be proud of it. It's a Hollywood movie and Hollywood movies regardless of who is in it find their way into international theaters anyway, setting box office records of international viewership. If we wanted to support diversity, we would promote foreign-sponsored and produced films, not the patching together of "people who we can't tell apart" ascending in the Anglophone hegemony.

I literally walked out of the theatre with my head held high. And during this movie, I felt crazy rich. That's an unusual feeling growing up Taiwanese in the US, finally this happened. It's like feeling like the popular kids in school like you & looks just like you. Very memorable!
As an asian growing up in the Bay Area around all kinds of asians from Japanese, Chinese, Indians, Filipinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, hapas, etc... and even those that immigrated from the UK and Australia, I am proud and happy to see that the cast is as diverse as possible within the context of the script. There's more to come for more stories to be told that can get as granular as possible. Hopefully we'll be witnessing and playing a part in this multi-dimensional narrative. And damn Gemma Chan is Queen Bae and Chris Pang represent!

Just saw this movie. And wow was is great. Not just a great movie with talented directing, acting and humor, but also the representation of asians on the big screen hit home for me.
I cried and I never cry in non-animated movies. Representation felt like that missing something I didn't know was taken from me. I'm 18 and am so glad to be alive to have seen this happen.
I’m not Asian but I live in Asia and I cried during this movie. Loved it. Everything about it. It’s so well made. Incredible casting. Want to watch it again. I’ve been reading everything about it, every article, watching every video related to it. Movie tickets here in Hong Kong are expensive in my opinion but I’d go watch it again so just to contribute to its success! I can’t wait for the sequel 😍🙌🏼✨✨✨✨

I saw the movie tonight. Loved it! I’m Caucasian (shouldn’t matter) and what I saw tonight was a fun, romantic, funny movie with wonderful characters. There was music in Chinese - didn’t care (in fact enjoyed it ). The were occasional subtitles - didn't care. The movie was an all Asian cast - didn’t care. What I did care about was that the movie I was watching had a great story, something that touched the heart, great film making, characters I could indentffy with cause who can’t identify with love, family, and being an outsider at some point in their lives? I’m very happy that the movie is doing well ‘cause maybe that’s a sign others don’t care either.

Exactly I'm Chinese and I saw the movie not for the Asian cast but because I saw the trailer and it was quite Interesting to see the beauty of Singapore and of course the story. I also saw monster in law with jane fonda( but her character was too fake )and jumping the groom with Paula patton. Those are the white and black version of this movie. The three of them are special in their own way and many people don't care about the ethnicity of the cast..my crush is terrence Howard and he's Chinese/Italian and not so fit either ah ah
The words of these people are so true and relevant to Asian American lives. We face prejudice and racial hardships on an everyday basis. But with the release of this movie, Asians, and minorities in general, can finally receive the same treatment as other people. The movie is honestly inspiring and I praise the work of these people.

This movie really resonated with me. I was born in Canada but my parents came from China. I have never been more eager to go see a movie and feel that this makes being Asian kind of neat. At least until the next “ pro diversity” movie event comes around!
This movie is one of my favorites and I’ve seen it three times. Every time with my best friend. He was so excited to see people who looked like him on the big screen. When he moved to the Americas he was jarred to not see asians on the big screen. This year, this man has been so excited for two movies. This one and love Simon. It’s an amazing movie and it made me emotional to see this movie all three time, not just because the important representation, but because how excited someone I loved was and how this year is his absolute favorite year for representation. His boyfriend was just as excited to see this movie and was excited to see it the three times he made us. It’s a great movie! . I definitely plan on buying it when it comes out on dvd

Cool. I'm a mostly white American with a little Native American around the edges but not enough to really stand out. I checked out Bruce Lee, Tai Chi, Kung (Gung, Gong) Fu and just dug into Chinese culture more so a few years back. I'd like to go see the film soon. I'm also aware that the treatment of the Chinese by the USA was pretty bad. Glad this film will help open some eyes as well as give a voice to those who grew up as this being their culture/family/traditions. 🙏❤️☯️❤️🙏
Being a Filipino American, born in the Philippines, grew up in Tokyo for my first ten years and back to the Philippines until I finished medical school, identity was never a problem to me. I saw Japanese actors on TV on NHK, Filipino actors in movies and TV, having the Filipino channel in my house in Indiana seeing Filipino films day in and day out, and American films on weekend being Asian american is a non issue being a first generation American. My identity as citizen of the world was ingrained in my DNA from birth because I have a half Filipino half Chinese father who was a lawyer and a diplomat, a mother who was a pharmacist from a prominent political family in the Philippines, having international classmates from the get go(kindergarten), I was acutely aware that people were diverse and proud of who they were and where they came from. Interned in New York and trained in the deep south, I did occasionally encountered racism but I will just raise my eyebrow and pity them and think how unfortunate they are for creating a small world for themselves instead of embracing the diversity of our world, different cultures, races, traditions and belief systems. At the end of the day we are all human who love and get hurt, who reaches for the stars with our own dreams and aspirations and yet remain accepting of who we are. I saw the movie. I love the fact that Kris Aquino was Princess Intan. Very classy, very intelligent actress in the Philippines. Born Kristina Bernadette Cojuanco Aquino, she is the youngest daughter of the late Philippine President Corazon Aquino and the slain Philippine senator Benigno Aquino and sister to former President Benigno S. Aquino III.I hope she gets more roles from Hollywood as the current administration has exerted efforts on the Philippine entertainment industry to close doors on her for political reasons.
I too come from a multicultural background, grew up in 3 cultures, & speak multiple languages. We may not struggle with cultural identity, & can glide smoothly across different worlds, but there are many Asian Americans (or Asian Australians, BBC or CBC) who never felt seen or represented. This movie means a lot to them & I'm happy they finally got what their souls craved. Selamat po for the background information on Kris Aquino, even though it was just a cameo.

I hadn’t cried watching any sort of romantic movie until I saw crazy rich Asians. If you grew up with the Asian parents who had the cultural mind set of raising children, every “cliche” line just really hits close to home. You can really feel the meaning behind those words because you grew up with these difficult and “strange” ways. And you can really see yourself and your family in these characters.

I saw the movie tonight. Loved it! I’m Caucasian (shouldn’t matter) and what I saw tonight was a fun, romantic, funny movie with wonderful characters. There was music in Chinese - didn’t care (in fact enjoyed it ). The were occasional subtitles - didn't care. The movie was an all Asian cast - didn’t care. What I did care about was that the movie I was watching had a great story, something that touched the heart, great film making, characters I could indentffy with cause who can’t identify with love, family, and being an outsider at some point in their lives? I’m very happy that the movie is doing well ‘cause maybe that’s a sign others don’t care either.

Exactly I'm Chinese and I saw the movie not for the Asian cast but because I saw the trailer and it was quite Interesting to see the beauty of Singapore and of course the story. I also saw monster in law with jane fonda( but her character was too fake )and jumping the groom with Paula patton. Those are the white and black version of this movie. The three of them are special in their own way and many people don't care about the ethnicity of the cast..my crush is terrence Howard and he's Chinese/Italian and not so fit either ah ah

The words of these people are so true and relevant to Asian American lives. We face prejudice and racial hardships on an everyday basis. But with the release of this movie, Asians, and minorities in general, can finally receive the same treatment as other people. The movie is honestly inspiring and I praise the work of these people.

This movie is one of my favorites and I’ve seen it three times. Every time with my best friend. He was so excited to see people who looked like him on the big screen. When he moved to the Americas he was jarred to not see asians on the big screen. This year, this man has been so excited for two movies. This one and love Simon. It’s an amazing movie and it made me emotional to see this movie all three time, not just because the important representation, but because how excited someone I loved was and how this year is his absolute favorite year for representation. His boyfriend was just as excited to see this movie and was excited to see it the three times he made us. It’s a great movie! . I definitely plan on buying it when it comes out on dvd

I'm so proud of this movie as it really reflects how much Asians all over the world wants this to happen! My tears keep flowing when at the end Eleanor played by Michelle Yeoh was the one that made this movie what it is, his embodiment of the "Asian values" that only we know is part of our culture..the remaining cast are all amazing!! Cool. I'm a mostly white American with a little Native American around the edges but not enough to really stand out. I checked out Bruce Lee, Tai Chi, Kung (Gung, Gong) Fu and just dug into Chinese culture more so a few years back. I'd like to go see the film soon. I'm also aware that the treatment of the Chinese by the USA was pretty bad. Glad this film will help open some eyes as well as give a voice to those who grew up as this being their culture/family/traditions.

Being a Filipino American, born in the Philippines, grew up in Tokyo for my first ten years and back to the Philippines until I finished medical school, identity was never a problem to me. I saw Japanese actors on TV on NHK, Filipino actors in movies and TV, having the Filipino channel in my house in Indiana seeing Filipino films day in and day out, and American films on weekend being Asian american is a non issue being a first generation American. My identity as citizen of the world was ingrained in my DNA from birth because I have a half Filipino half Chinese father who was a lawyer and a diplomat, a mother who was a pharmacist from a prominent political family in the Philippines, having international classmates from the get go(kindergarten), I was acutely aware that people were diverse and proud of who they were and where they came from. Interned in New York and trained in the deep south, I did occasionally encountered racism but I will just raise my eyebrow and pity them and think how unfortunate they are for creating a small world for themselves instead of embracing the diversity of our world, different cultures, races, traditions and belief systems. At the end of the day we are all human who love and get hurt, who reaches for the stars with our own dreams and aspirations and yet remain accepting of who we are.
I saw the movie. I love the fact that Kris Aquino was Princess Intan. Very classy, very intelligent actress in the Philippines. Born Kristina Bernadette Cojuanco Aquino, she is the youngest daughter of the late Philippine President Corazon Aquino and the slain Philippine senator Benigno Aquino and sister to former President Benigno S. Aquino III.I hope she gets more roles from Hollywood as the current administration has exerted efforts on the Philippine entertainment industry to close doors on her for political reasons.

I too come from a multicultural background, grew up in 3 cultures, & speak multiple languages. We may not struggle with cultural identity, & can glide smoothly across different worlds, but there are many Asian Americans (or Asian Australians, BBC or CBC) who never felt seen or represented. This movie means a lot to them & I'm happy they finally got what their souls craved.

I hadn’t cried watching any sort of romantic movie until I saw crazy rich Asians. If you grew up with the Asian parents who had the cultural mind set of raising children, every “cliche” line just really hits close to home. You can really feel the meaning behind those words because you grew up with these difficult and “strange” ways. And you can really see yourself and your family in these characters.
