Wow, finally a review who's not licking the asses of the bike manufacturers. Awesome review, good work guys
Thanks 🙏
I felt the same way.
Pole, Santa Cruz, yeti, I think alotnare missing
Just my opinion, but I find a trend in the motorcycling industry where UK evaluators of motorcycles vs USA evaluators are more upfront and sometimes hard on manufacturers and in many cases justifiably so, whereas you get the feeling the USA people patronize manufacturers and withhold what they really think. It may be an effort to keep the circle of business intact which defeats the purpose of their job to be the buying public's advocate.
they talk about the components, who cares, you can change them from one bike to the other one that they are testing.
The Pivot for me
Great review, especially on the pricing aspect of the Specialized. They use in house brand tyres and wheels and a few other things too but charge a premium price. You can buy a brand new KTM 790 Duke for less than that S Works. Something very wrong with the bicycle industry.
..and a bad bullying rep as a company also
@@rocketssss6 wow you're arrogant
@@herbertzielinski8505 @eclipsethesun is doing something called "projecting". He has a lot of pent-up hatred for others. Hopefully he finds a way to socialize with other human beings, and can integrate into society.
Spez has always been so overpriced. The difference this time is that they for once got the geo right....
Buy the lower end enduro. Who the hell buys top of the line full retail
Wow that guy really gave great reviews. I keep hearing "playful" from other reviewers without them really articulating what that means to them, but this guy really broke down his thoughts on handling.
By Far the best reviews out there. Nobody even comes close to articulating the riding characteristics of bikes like these guys.
the review was dialed.
Like, um, like, like, um. So articulate.
Keep it up guys, really like the honest feedback from the rider himself.
Top review, as per usual! I really like that you pointed out the price issue and gave a good tip for possible buyers!
Thanks very much 👍
Yeah, agreed. Great review.
In essence, 10/10 for the enduro less 1 for the brakes; and less 1 for the price.
The thing with the Specialized pricing is, people are still buying the top end bikes and frames like crazy. Often they are even sold out. Therefore it will get even higher.
Love the honest review without sugar coating the brands
Awesome review! I just picked up the Specialized Enduro Expert as a demo from my local bike shop and took it out today!
The Firebird has the DW-Link and it feels great. Plus like the tester said it has the super boost rear. When I ride mine it feels amazing. I did test ride the S-Works and the 4-bar suspension just felt off to me. I recommend the Firebird but don't take my word for it, go to your local bike shop and test ride one. Buy the bike that feels good to you. Don't rely on popular polls or what the newest trend is.
im hoping to have a go on a new enduro, but with previous models, im with you on the spesh 4 bar link. kinda feels dead?
Now that’s how you do a review!!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Specialized Enduro; Just watched the video today after finished my built yesterday. Im stoked
10/10 review. Really interesting to hear someone go into detail without resorting to industry jargon.
Thanks!
More of this please! 25 mins of awesome commentary. Loved it.
Thanks!
You guys always do the most rider centric reviews. Great to watch and the right level of detail. As an MBR subscriber id almost prefer to not have the write ups in the mag and have then done in this way somehow! Maybe a qr code in the mag or something.
Love the content guys, really high quality stuff! I appreciate what you guys do!
Thanks very much! We appreciate you taking the time to let us know 👍
I love this video because it validates what i surmised. Although the pivot shoulda coulda won. Your intuition on the Enduro was spot on...its exactly what i did on my Firebrd...shorter stem and flipped the chip to higher bb.. against what most may think going higher bb(wth more sag)and steeper HT is in my opinion the way to run most 29rs.
I may even steepin my ht wth an angle set. My bike is one of my favorites ive ever owned. (You are right about the seat tube being a bit to slack. Pivots only mistake)😁 Cheers my brothers.
Have you considered off-set bushing on the rear shock instead of an angled headset. Would help bring the seat angle up a little
Amazing review thanks guys! Always loved Giant but that Firebird is pretty cool and the Specialized Enduro is SO NICE!
Great review. I Built up an enduro frame after this review.
Man, Al's assessments are really well worded and informative. His opinions pull no punches as well and I appreciate his honesty. Really well done comparison.
Thanks
Alan's analysis is so concise and yet fully detailed. Ive now watched a handful of your videos and I must say your reviews are quickly becoming my favorites. whether on the 1.1k Bossnut or this 9k Trek I come away with valuable and usable insight into bike dynamics. Great job again guys and thank you!
Glad you like them!
I would love a vídeo comparing the enduro with the megatower!!
Superb gentleman! ...Finding the Giant TRX0 rims to be very harsh.
Reign makes for an impeccable trail bike: 140mm fork, Rockshox DeLuxe 57.5mm shock, 180mm rotors, no chain guide, and 175mm cranks. Easily the best trail bike I've ridden. Certainly lightweight. Pedals amazing with 20-25% sag. Actually a phenomenally low rear shock pressure with a bottomless 125 - 130mm rear shock ride quality. ( May be on to something with this shock air pressure setup: something similar to RockShox's Megneg but without a weight penalty for trail riders as this is essentially an under-utilized Enduro level shock. )
I've got a stumpy and I know what you mean, that s works sticker is really expensive. On a stumpy best value i have found is new expert. I would send in fork give 10 more mm travel and a grip 2. I would ditch the rear hub for a 350 with 54 tooth engagement. The brakes aren't the best but will run them for a year then put code rsc levers on.
I replaced Stumpjumer with new Enduro, oh man, Stumpjumper can be Enduros butler.....
Proper Review! I like that the moderator pushed for more comments and the reviewer kept adding more perspective. Also given that the Sworks got a review in the low & high rear setting, where you able to review the Pivot in the high & low setting for bike handing comparison. I think the Firebird29 was in the Low setting for this review. Cheers!!!
Thanks Matthew! No we kept the Pivot in the low position as the BB is relatively high anyway (measured at 347mm V Enduro at 342mm).
Good job guys. You answered all my questions making this review. All 3 bikes look sharp. Keep your wheels rolling:)))
Thanks very much 👍
That guy was a pleasure to listen to, really knows his shit. Just ordered the enduro comp and I'm looking forward to it more than ever now!
Thanks!
Great video lads. Great info and review!
Hows it go vs SB150 tho? You gave that bike rave reviews?
The best review i have ever seen. But i really wanted you guys to compare the enduro to sb150 and the megatower. Please do make the comparison. 😊
Thanks very much, it’s appreciated. Would love to do back-to-back timed runs on those three bikes - would certainly be interesting to compare.
I'm curious how the SB150 stacks up against these.
symmetricon1982 same :)
Compared to the enduro, it climbs better, mainly due to the steeper seat tube angle (don’t get fooled, the enduro STA isn’t steep). On the descents the enduro almost feels like a DH bike. The yeti is great but the enduro is on another level
If your looking for actual information about how these bikes perform, thiis is the best Ii have found! Great job guys!
Thanks!
it's interesting how everyone evolves. the wheel size on bikes is a really cool thing to see evolve over years. I remember when I was riding my first bike and it had 29ers. everyone looked at me like I was crazy but I loved it. I didn't know anything about bikes back then but I didn't care. I loved how fast the bike was but now I just can't ride 29ers because they feel so huge after riding 26s and 27.5 for so long
It’s nice to have a review that doesn’t feel like it was scripted and recited.
I concur (JCL ). Agreed,I consider myself a novice compared to these fellas and I appreciate a real and detailed conversation about Expensive pieces of s porting equipment MTBs on the market for 2020!!!
Great in-depth review. As a Firebird owner you Guys nailed its attributes. Happily recommend the Firebird. Get the suspension set up properly and it makes a surprisingly good Trail Bike in the first third of its travel.
I've got the Firebird 27.5 and thats a great trail bike too, not tried the 29 yet.
Agreed with the recommendation of the Pivot FB29. I found a great deal on a 1-year old entry level from my local bike shop mechanic, I am going to dial back the Front FoxShox from 170 to 160 to make it 160/160 then insert the Grip2 and call it my perfect All-Mtn bike. There is enough BB height in the high & low setting to keep the rocks off my pedals :-) Cheers!!!
Great review! Thank you. And exactly my plan, get the entry level Specialized Enduro and build on it.
Thanks very much. Enjoy building, and riding, your new Enduro 👍
I just put a push shock on my 2020 enduro and Hallelujah, rides so good.
High quality review guys, best one I've watched you do. Any one of those three would be my dream bike 👉👍👈
Thanks very much!
Pretty solid review & comparison. Nice work!
I’ve ridden the new nomad, pivot firebird and s-works but for me overall I loved how smooth and fun the pivot was, from descending to climbing I felt more comfortable and stable on it. For sures the S-work was up there on my second choice.
I'd take the Enduro.
Good review. I'd like to see some time comparisons on a couple different tracks
G´day mate! Amazing Aussie accent-from Queensland right? Many thanks for the video. Stay safe and healthy!
brilliant. best review of MTBs I've ever seen. perhaps the best of anything I've ever seen.
Wow, thanks!
Awesome Commentary and real world review. To me this did not seem the reviews of these bikes did NOT come from some bike mags, instead it came from a real rider that is experienced and NOT paid to talk. If I was shopping for a new bike, the Enduro is the only bike that has me interested.
Glad you enjoyed it
BTW The best review I watched. Concrete review instead of semi advertistment.
I sort of agree with the head angle thing on my reign I’m going to put a longer air spring in the fork but the brake rub thing isn’t a thing on mine.
Great review! Totally agree that these bikes shouldn't need anything changed when you're paying that sort of money. The manufacturer should have a custom build option for that price. Customer gets to pick the components.
Promising the world and costing the earth. Epic. Great content guys.
Thanks
i found the HT2 and similar SC bikes have the same issue with the low/high geo. in low its slushy and plows through everything, but not fun. in high its a lot more fun.
Top quality review, really appreciate your knowledge guys.
Thanks 🙏
Couple of questions....
1. How does the S-Works compare to the Ransom with climbing? I’d find it hard to believe being such a big bike that it’s that good. My preference will be the Ransom with the 38 and some subtle changes to the rider configuration preference. High/Low, and the 27-29 in certain places for riding and the weather.
2. Once the 38 is released, can you challenge your earlier comments about a 1nDone with the S-Works for Whistler all-in-one Trail-Endro-DH rig? That’s where the interest is for the market at the moment since you’re angle is about the current product offerings.
Great reviews BTW, but that Giant is a mess... The Megatower would’ve balanced offerings as far as travel and design kinematics. 👍🏼
That was BY FAR one of the best collective reviews I've ever watched. Focused mainly on the Spesh piece as that's my next bike. Completely agree that a build is the best way to go. I currently have a Sworks S3 frame in my stand and even with bringing over wheels from my last bike, I'll be saving at least $2000 USD off that ridiculous sticker price 👍. VERY glad to hear how strong the performance review was 🙏
Thanks very much, it means a lot.
Alan's dockers/quiff bonnet on point this episode, Donny M's may need a hot wash before the next video diary
Awesome review, really interested in the enduro and how it compares to the pole stamina 180 and yt capra.
Ive just bought the 2022 onyx blue/ black frame and had it built to my spec with factory 38s and XO gears and carbon cranks ect ..it finished at 6k euros..even that is expensive i know..but in comparison to a similar build Sworks. Its a steel 🤘🤘
In my opinion its the way to go with the specialized enduro, the frame is awesome for next year...the 2022 shock is the same as last years minus the kashima bling..through on some 38s and youve got one of the best enduro bases out there😈
one of the more honest ones out here...
you should review more bikes, best reviews ive ever heard for a longtime no biased i tested all the bikes and i have same experience as you do,specialized just work as a unit super stable in rough terrain 😀👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks! 👍
I have had couple of Reigns until they went EVO suspension and that didn't last long, disc bind is a pain and looks like they haven't fixed it and I tried Shimino discs and Sram and always adjusting. The Fox X2 shock is ace and the coil is even better. 35mm stem works great. Cant stand lock on grips I am old school glue on and lock wire. Shimino brakes never liked them and am running Code RSC and R and great lever feel, but I shim mine with 0.03mm spacers and trail braking is even better with so much feel on downhill tricky sections. Fox Transfer seat post is the best and I have used rockshox as well twice.
Excellent reviews that guy knows what's what!
Such a good review and very interesting first rate
The rear travel on the reign was a bit of a wtf moment, but I’d still perchase if I had the cash despite the few idiosyncrasies..
Another great video, review but one thing that bugs me is that when there is a high end carbon enduro group test there is never a simple single pivot Steel ,Aluminium bike ie Orange ,Cotic ,Starling etc thrown into the mix .
The S-Works. :)
Great review guys. These dudes are legit!
🙌 cheers boys!
Curious to discover what you think about a Mondraker Foxy in thaïs battle...
Are we seeing a change, 2/3 bikes had shimano groupsets. Is it finally the end the sram dominance
Definitely 2020 will see Shimano back in the game with the launch of XT and SLX.
nice review.. exactly what i "think" about these bikes... do you guys forgot the megatower!
we tried to get the megatower but the UK distributor didn’t have the top model available.
Really nice technical review. Good work.....
Giant Reign for the win! 💯🔥🤙🏻
I have a giant reign with 170mm stock front fork so not sure which one you have mate
Obviously this comes down to each individual and their own preferences I know giant chooses to go slightly less travel because its a 29er and the way they built the bike specifically for 29" wheels usually the 27.5s they have get more travel. I would probably test drive each and choose your favorite. As per noises could of been just the test model? But honestly i like the specialized enduro but like he said would only get the entry model lol
Realy great review!
giant really done themselves a dis-service on the 29 reign. the 27.5 was epic! theyre just shooting themselves down!
How tall are you? Curious of your stem length and height? I’m not sure what size frame to order
I miss the Nukeproof Mega 290 - the best Enduro Race bike ever!
Great review guys 👦
10 grand or a bike with no motor! you can get the latest levo sl for that ffs. Ludicrous.
Or an enduro motorcycle. A nice one.
Or the SC Hightower/Megatower
@@bk83082 a really, really nice one. You could get a brand new ktm 450 sx-f for £8,400. It's insane that people are pricing a top spec mountain bike higher than a top spec motocross bike.
@@williamgalloway4798 Not quite sure why MTB parts are that expensive, some of the parts are highly expensive and not even great pieces of equipment.
Could you review the calibre rake from go outdoors?
Great reviews, but Jeez - in the Specialized review alone I counted 71 “like”s. Enough already!
Fantastic review. You have a new sub!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Interesting that the huge Specialized Enduro pedals better than the Reign. Maestro link bikes are generally known for being really good on the climbs.
easy to adjust the pivot placement on horst link bikes to give the kinematics they want. More anti-squat, better pedaling but more pedal feedback but I find it's not noticeable.
Maestro is a mixed bag, some pedal great, others bob like crazy. Modern geo - steep seat tube angle along with high anti-sqat makes for a damn fine pedaling horst link bike
Always keep in mind that a review is one persons opinion. That persons experience. That persons expectations. Need more group reviews, get multiple opinions
That is certainly one way of doing it, the problem is, of course, that it can easily turn into a confusing muddle of opinions.
Mountain Bike Rider I guess. But kinda like amazon reviews. 😂
Careful of those bots now! 👍
Thank you for this review
Trance X 29 💥
Great review
Glad you enjoyed it 👍
I got a 2016 reign for 400$ I love it
Please do review new 2020 Nukeproof Mega 290 RS
I had this bike in mind till I found out may earliest to get in stock. I went enduro and soooo glad I did its a weapon of a bike the rear suspension is so good.
@@scottmtb122 Well, for sure it is great bike but 2x more expensive bike does not ride 2x better but maybe 10% better (if so). And TOP TOP Nukeproof Mega 290 RS version is 5K and TOP Enduro is crazy 9K therefore I chose Nukeproof Mega 290
I got the comp version and added a few upgrades came in at 5500. I agree the s works well overpriced. It's not just the bike it's also the rider. Put Sam Hill on new enduro I reckon he'd be quicker lol. I had a go on mates mega and great bike but e29 just holds speed better especially on rock gardens etc. So save 5k and go comp version and upgrade parts...
Winner winner.
@@scottmtb122 Hahaha! Funny assumption. I am sure enduro is great bike but you cannot compare like this. It is childish. We do not know what Sam The Hill would do. We only know that specialized enduro athletes were never really succesful. The bike? The athletes? The team set up? We do not know. However the results were never there.
Anyone know where these trails are? Those jumps looked sick!
Surrey, UK
I demo´d the Pivot. Most fun i had in YEARS!
can´t afford a bike for 8k tho
Please review the Santa Cruz Megatower
Great review!
Thanks!
I'm no longer anti-29ers, but I'll stick with my 27.5, as I'm 5'6. I already hit my ass on the rear of my "small wheeled" bike as it is.
Enduro or SB150?
This is what I’m dying to know
Could you elaborate on why the SWAT Conceal Carry Tool didn't work on a 40mm stem?
When we rotated the SWAT door, it would hit the stem, so the tool couldn't be pulled out. Bascially it needs to rotate 180 degrees, but it can't.
I run a 35mm stem on mine with no issue. Stock it came with 40mm, again no issue. I think it's down to the stem design and running 1 spacer above the stem.
I love the Pivot... I want the Pivot! Give me Pivot!!!!!
The pivot with a 27.5 in the rear & 29er up front.... no?
Anyone ridden the Giant got any advice on sizing? Giants size chart says size L for anyone up to 6'4 basically, reach is long but at 6'3 I'm not sure
Sizing of the enduro is not close to the pole or geometron yet in terms of wheelbase. The S4 (or size L) specialized enduro wheelbase is equivalent to pole’s size M evolink 158.
I have the reign advanced pro 29 1 with alloy wheels and don’t have the brake rub so...
Does Specialized have any plans to bring out an aluminium version of the enduro?
Not sure, but it would make sense.
They did is called Status
