Dream Builds: Ryan Palmer's Specialized Enduro

- Peer into the workshop of Bike senior editor and former World Cup race mechanic, Ryan Palmer, as this year’s Bike Magazine Editors’ Choice Dream Builds come together. Take an artfully captured and detailed journey as collections of each editor’s favorite components take shape into their vision of the perfect bike. In this video, we see Palmer building his own bike, a 2020 Specialized Enduro S-Works, with all the parts that impressed him the most this year.
SRAM’s groundbreaking AXS wireless derailleur shifts a lustful Shimano XTR drivetrain, suspended on Fox Factory dampers and completed with Shimano XTR stoppers, custom Crank Brothers/White Industries/DT Swiss wheels, Enve/One Up/Chris King cockpit, WTB seat, and Reverb AXS wireless dropper. We think it came out looking pretty good.
Stay tuned and have a look at all of this year’s Bike Magazine Dream Builds, and try not to drool on yourself.
This is like zen meditation for me. Glad to see another pipe-cutter-on-steerer-tube user.
You actually SHOULDN'T use a pipe cutter on an aluminum steerer tube as the metal is too soft and malleable, using this device puts stress on the steerer tube which ultimately can both deform and in some cases lead to seemingly unexplainable hair line cracks developing down the line. This is why Park tool and other bike specific tool manafuctures promote the use of saw guides and saw blades as this is the CORRECT way to cut a steerer tube. Interestingly most reputable OEM bike manufaturs actually use a band saw to cut their steerer tubes as this gives the most clean and accurate cut. Addiitional the aid of cutting fluid should be used as this helps to reduce any snagging or bite markings appearing in the cut.
Edward Sarll If steerer tubes are so ‘soft and maleable’ how come they don’t fail all the time? Pipe cutters are specifically designed for cutting tubes that are much softer than aluminium alloy, cleanly and with little force. Using on requires a little file work, but no more than when using a saw. Of course manufacturers use a band saw - they cut dozens (or more) of steerers a day. But if you’re only doing one at a time, a pipe cutter is an equally good option. You go your way, I’ll go mine.

Edward Sarll this sounds so wrong dude are you shure about that?
Dante Hiesi Yup. Try it. It’s faster, the cut is cleaner and guaranteed perpendicular. You still need to clean it up with a file.
What have I started...
Indeed Gee, when I build bikes, I put deep focus playlist on from Spotify, similar to yours haha
Drem Builds all over the world, passion for buildings, art in the process, and so on....
Yours are much better though.
I wanna make my own too....Or what does it cost to get the great Gee Milner to film a video :)
True, true
And before someone complains - those are Knipex, not channel-locks. Perhaps the greatest pliers known to man. Beautiful build, Ryan.
damn straight, expensive but THE BEST well worth it
22 year electrician and Knipex shit on channel locks for sure .
Lindstrom for low voltage cable.
I have some Knipex pliers too lol
God!!! What a beauty!!! You're a great guy!!!
I wish you success, health, good luck and prosperity from the bottom of my heart!!!
I'll never buy a bike like that.
Thank you for being and making such beauty!!!
The calm music paired with the subtle noise of building the bike was so soothing lol, nearly fell asleep 3 times
This is one of the most calm and serene videos ever! It fed my soul, and makes me want to build my own bike, if I only knew how!🤔
Dale Burton Only way to truly learn, Is to get out there and do it. UA-cam and google will be your friend. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, And learn from them. We’ve all be there. But have fun while building. Nothing more satisfying then knowing what you’re riding, Was built 90% by yourself
Nice and great bike sir
This the type of person you want building your bike... This is so satisfying to watch...
I've been learning a lot during this pandemic and here it is March 2021 & even though I'm getting older & older I'm still enjoying learning. UA-cam is a cool school 🐶
The sound of the chain link setting, the click of the torque wrench...love it. Well shot video!
Cheers! Thanks for watching.
You are the beauties of your business. Respect to you
I'm watching you without rewinding you are so much a pro I have no words
Wow beautiful cycle nice
So glad you didn't post this in no nut November. Absolutely beautiful!
I don't even own a bike but I can't stop watching this videos.
That is a beautiful build. Absolutely loved it! Was like meditation. Thanks for sharing.
The bikes are nice and all but what makes me really jealous are the tools. Like those ridiculously gorgeous ones from Abbey. Splurged on a Crombie SL once but with international shipping and taxes they get ludicrously expensive. Also having that much space in the bike shed is awesome compared to my little basement room @ 2,5x4,0metres. Have fun building, tuning and riding folks!
First time I see your video; I loved it. No bla bla bla ... just watching with nice music in the background.
I love these videos. I could watch them all day!
every component in this bike is perfect
steinerMtb my dad have it !!
The bottlecage is trash
Super super enduro DH Machinee!!!
LOVE IT! SPECIALIZED ENDURO!!
Ryan Palmer is VERY VERY cool, he is rockin'
All the love goes into one piece of carbon dream....
im am so happy videos made like this exist.. thank you !!!!!!!
Stunning bike! Nice to see the dark art of wheel building....
A pleasure to watch!
it takes so much work to become good at this job!
Nice work !
Building a bike one of the more difficult things in wheel building. I made a set when I was in school at UBI I love these videos
Truly shows the beauty of building a bike. Love it
this fox 🥺, love from Indonesia 🖤
ssSSOooo beautiful bike... Perfect color theme!
Para los que aman las bicicletas como yo es genial ver estos vídeos armando bicicletas son satisfactorio 👍
I like the attention to detail , thumbs up
Nice job using the pipe cutter! Honestly made me so happy. 😂. I love the black and copper theme.
To summarize this video: PERFECTION!
Right bruh!
Totally blown up
This is who all bike places should have to put there bikes together
Great video , I couldn’t stop drooling over all the snap on tools used in this video 🤤
*Watching this was like meditation*
Dang bro! Sick bike! Thanks for sharing Ryan!
Epic bike man
Wish I had the chance to build my dreambike.
Keep doing these epic videos! 🤟🤙👍
Just do it, I work every day after school, it's annoying, it's hard, but I am slowly buying components one by one.. started with carbon frame, then sus. Fork, brakes, now I am going to order wheels.. It takes a lots of time and effort, I am impatient as ####, but I know I am going to love it🤘
Jan Šůha did you do it yet
The way you built that is what I would hope every bike shop would do but due to time and money unfortunately that would not be possible. I'd love to build my next bike myself!!
very zen, but no torque wrench...
Sir your work style so cool and you are so good and loyal person. God bless you
Hello, Extraordinaire le montage, les angles de vues sont top. Et le bike sublime.
that was deeply therapeutic to watch.
Omg so good guys, one of the best dream build ever, good work.
Wow, we have some similar tastes! I just laced up those wheels, bought that crank, One Up bar and that new Koda saddle as well. Might have to consider the AXS XTR combo build now. Damnit, thought I was almost done spending money!
Kudos on the build and edit!
The best part is when Mr. Palmer whistled the chorus from Mr. Gabriel’s sludge hammer! 😀
This dude is THE master!
Perfect....seems like a meditation
Great components , even tools are awesome. Have to admit he is excellent and very clean and particular mechanic which I highly appreciated, beautiful music and professional edit, we want more of bike builds , thank you 🙏
Awesome to hear you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching--more coming soon.
Damn professional..... it's super fun to watch such people at work.👍👍👍👍 Awesome
Wow! Thats so beautiful
Gracias amigo muy buenas bicicletas saludos desde Venezuela
feels like i just got hypnotized
This is not as ASMR it’s like soothing to watch now it makes me think how fun it will be to put my dads together instead of having a mechanic do it
Shut Up and take my money...
What an astonishing build, respect, and a mouth dripping work Shop.
Like the "Special design" of the paint on the frame, is it something special? . Looks huge
Bike Magazine! Hello there! I am delighted with your work. I myself am from Kazakstan, I will not have such a big one in my life, I think. Who buys such bicycles? Millionaires? And how much does your bike cost?
Como me relaja ver estos videos. Me gusta la tranquilidad con la que trabajan
felling relaxed...love you man...
This is Love!!! 😍
Man I love these videos, and the bikes too D.
Ok. I'm jealous. And hate you a little bit because of it.
Also, I'm amazed by your bike building skills. Don't get me wrong, aside wheels, I could build this bike by myself without much problems, but observing you and your calmness while doing it is nothing less than amazing.
This is now my favourite video for relaxation and meditation!
Love watching dream bike builds
I'd love to know what you used to make that AXS shifter mount at 11:44
EDIT: looks like a Wolftooth shiftmount with a custom quick-access mod, though I would have cut just enough off to allow the shank of the bolt through but not the head, so it is still captive even if it gets loose. Still Very nice👍
Blitzman364 I had to cut it where I did because the paddle of the shifter hit the mount in the position I needed it in.
Sweet video amigo.. ✌🏻
At 6:30 you put the spacer on the wrong side..Great build tho awesome mix match of drive train parts.
Viel Spaß mit deinem neuen bike
9:30 You need Sam Pilgrim here to do this😂
rider -fb hahahahaha good comment
Best comment 🤣👍
Yeah on driveway curbing... lol. Seems to work for him. :)
Hilarious yet I could afford to let that madman near a build like this with his brick hammer, Vice grips and plumber's tools Lol
@@cellphonenut video nasty lol
That was relaxing
What kind of spacer do you put in the headset at 8:50? I guess it is needed so that the upper cap does not rub against the frame. Did you buy it somewhere or made it yourself?
Love how you mix the best components, to create the perfect bike. And a big 🖕to complete group sets and specs ❤️
You are the owner of this respect
Very Nice job. This Bike is beautiful
When I saw the perfect setup (Shimano brakes with SRAM drivetrains), I've pressed like immediately..
More like this please
wait just a GD minute here...did he just use AXS on a Shimano cassette?
Yes sir... More on that coming this Wednesday. Good eye!
Yes ! It’s genius 😍👍
Blasphemy!!!!!
I'm running that on my sworks in reverse. XTR and sram cassette.
I suppose that he wants e-shifting with a shimano cassette, SRAM cassette are not very good, they look great, nothing more, so is a good choice. I have AXS X01 that had my new bike, I’m coming from Shimano, the shifter is garbage, e-shifting it’s just a trend, nothing better than a 12V Shimano XT for the average or serious rider.
See? We are ONE. This is how I'm trynna support RYAN PALMER. Sorry, he wrights his name as Palmer. By the way, I am very LAAAARGE FAN of him
Now I'll prove it. Guys, type - " Ryan Palmer is VERY VERY cool, he is rockin' "
It's so beautiful
A máquina! Meu sonho de consumo de 2 rodas.
Glad to know I'm not the only one who uses a Schedule 40 crown-race tool
wait whaaaat you are actually putting the spokes on the tires, thats badass
First thing I see : Beer = like! And that music! Great video!!!
සුපිරි වැඩක් කරන්න ❤❤❤❤❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
What is the thing you put on the valve? Amazing video!!!
I also find it’s important to line all my new parts up neatly in my tool chest. As important as neatly organized tools. No, more important. No, as important. 🙃
The real legend
Good job 👍👍👍👍
I like the body of that bike
Three changes for me , Öhlins coil front and rare , and chromag dagga pedals . But it looks perfect with both choices.
Una clase magistral de mecánica de bicicletas. 👍
Um sonho é ter ou montar uma bike dessa!!
This guy is r
The god of building bikes
Loved the build. I'm also curious as to what bearings you builr up with ? From top to bottom . I'm just getting into the this and would like to know your picks . I just bought a 2021 specialized enduro Frame and getting ready to dress it up and put jewelry on it . Again Great vid 👌
In components overall I find a 1$/gram ballpark, for how much weight you can save by spending extra money. With that carbon Enve stem you're spending like 5-10$ per gram, probably one of the silliest financial decisions one can make with bike parts. Also, I don't know how it is with that one, but I had a carbon stem that I had to get rid of because it slid on the steerer too easily, even with paste.
It is very nice video
I respect you
What were the digital devices you installed on your valves?
Online pressure sensor TyreWiz
expensive and totally useless unless you go pro
