  • The Enduro Comp will chew up and spit out the nasty terrain with ease, and let you take some seriously wild line choices in the process. The spec isn’t the best for the money though. The Enduro has been in Specialized’s line-up for over 20 years and has evolved drastically in that time. This latest model is designed with one thing in mind: going fast.
    The Comp model pictured here is the cheapest Enduro that Specialized offers. We put it through its paces to see just how well it compares to not just the S-Works Enduro model we tested late last year, but its similarly priced counterparts.

    For those concerned about the NX draivetrain, tell me; when you need to replace your cassette or deraileur do you want to spend hundreds of dollars more for more expensive parts that perform exactly the same? Sure its a bit heavier but the weight difference between NX and GX is ~200grams for the entire kit and costs a lot more. The most important part of any bike is the frame. Every other part can be replaced as it wears/ages and the core spec of this bike is pretty decent i.e. the frame and suspension is good and will last. The brakes could be replaced at the dealer when you buy the bike (my friend did this when he bought his, he changed them out for XT brakes) and the drivetrain is a disposable part.

    • @andrewhanlonwbu
      @andrewhanlonwbu 4 роки тому +10

      Fine. But the point is the bike shouldn't cost as much as it does with the lower spec.

    • @The.JZA.
      @The.JZA. 4 роки тому +5

      I hear you both, it seems a bit cheap to spec NX and I felt the same way when I bought my Stumpjumper Comp Carbon 29 ($6,600 NZD) but I haven’t had a single problem with the NX drivetrain and I’m glad that when I replace my cassette it won’t cost so much. I’ve upgraded a lot of parts on my bike (Fox 36 Factory fork with Grip 2 damper, Renthal Carbon bars, Magura MT7 brakes and a few other bits and bobs) but the one thing I’m not concerned about upgrading is the drivetrain. It works flawlessly and when (not if) it needs to be replaced it won’t cost as much. The only advantage of GX or better is the “crispness” of the feeling. They all still shift without issue and that’s all you need a drivetrain to do. I recently test rode 2 Pivot bikes (switchblade and firebird) and they both had XT 12 speed drivetrains and I thought the NX drivetrain on my bike was leagues ahead in terms of the way it feels and the snappiness of the shifts etc. so don’t think the NX is just a crappy drivetrain. It has the same technology as the higher end SRAM drivetrains just with slightly heavier/cheaper construction.
      You need to remember that the company has invested a crapload of money into R&D for the frame so it will be more expensive. They also have one of the best frame warranties on the market so that’s worth something as well.

    • @Charliened1
      @Charliened1 4 роки тому +5

      Na NX really doesn’t shift well and GX really could work better considering its priced similarly to an XT. I’ve had 3 friends who had GX mechs and they were constantly going out of wack and needing adjusting. Whereas my XT mech has kept trucking for thousands of miles with barley and adjustment needed. Ironicaly, or maybe inevitably they all have XT and SLX bits on their bikes now.

It has everything else. Best bike I ever ridden and I usually always go s works or expert. So happy I saved the money and went with the comp. the resale on these bikes are going to be solid considering most shops are all sold out. Get one if you still can . Honestly , these tires for the steep Squamish slabs are amazing. That 2.6 up front has gobs of grip. Did three laps last night of slab riding putting on 22km and no problem with climbing. • @rsPurezrs
    @rsPurezrs 4 роки тому +10

    I think the price is somewhat justified by all the testing and engineering that has been put into making the suspension platform and the frame. And I can't say that I'm noticing much difference coming from a gx eagle drivetrain and now riding the nx on my new specialized enduro comp. The confidence this suspension platform(and geo) gives is insane. It takes a bit of power to bunny hop this bike, but once you are up to speed you can just charge and boost of natural lips and obstacles on the trail(SO MUCH FUN). The only complaint I have about the comp build is the slow engagement hub. The fork on the other hand is easy to upgrade if you want a better damper.

    • @truantray
      @truantray 4 роки тому

      There is no difference between GX and NX or SX except weight, and the smaller lowest gear on the GX cassette.
      No one should be spending that kind of money then considering major upgrades.

    • @rsPurezrs
      @rsPurezrs 4 роки тому

      @@truantray My point is you dont need to upgrade from nx to gx, alot of people are saying they expect atleast gx but there is barely any difference between the two. Of course it would be great with gx or better, but it should not be considered a dealbreaker that you "only" get nx.

      @@rsPurezrs Totally agree. Specialized have given you an awesome frame with sorted suspension and decent brakes. That is where the value is in the Enduro. If people are upset by the groupset just change it once it wears out?

      Completely agree. 11 speed, although perfectly fine, lighter, and shifts extremely well, is now taboo thanks to the SRAM marketing propaganda. Convince everyone they need 12-speed, and charge a steep markup for it. Then, each year, release a cheaper and cheaper version of it so for the same price that last year got you GX, this year gets you NX, and next year will get you SX. I understand prices go up over time, but performance of low-end groups doesn't go up just because you now made something even lower.

    Any way, value is not great but only thing under performing is nx group set which you can swap for shimano xt which is really cheap and you are ready to go. Its definetly worth it for the price, that frame is refined, you got sealed pivots, swat box, really good internal routing, you can take it aparat in 30 minutes its joy to work on this bike. Its solid for the price with some uprageds in future this thing is weapon, but if you need top of the line components with shiny kashima coating look.

    • @bikeradar
      @bikeradar  4 роки тому

      We're not so sure John. Surely you're talking about 'enduro frame of the year' if you ignore all the stock spec. First and foremost our reviews are about helping people make important buying discussions, so we're always keen to review the bike as it comes, whilst commenting on areas of spec that could be upgraded. We also do custom builds ua-cam.com/video/lJxSE5RI8so/v-deo.html , but this isn't one of those occasions. Hope that helps!

      @@bikeradar Tires should be a secondary factor of any bike purchase. Even more so than on a car. Without creating an equal playing field, many factors cannot be compared. Do you think that the heavier cassette affects on the performance of the rear suspension and how?

    • @The.JZA.
      @The.JZA. 4 роки тому

      A heavier rear wheel, whether that be tyre, rim, cassette, deraileur or something esle, causes the wheel to have more inertia which would mean you would have to reduce your rebound damping to have the wheel react more quickly to high frequency bumps however in situations where the wheel is remaining in contact to the ground, for example when pumping into the ramp of a jump, the reduced rebound damping would cause the rear suspension to buck you. So basically a heavy rear end affects suspension performance and makes it more difficult to get it set up correctly. This is one of the biggest advantages of a gearbox bike as the majority of the drivetrain weight is between the cranks instead of on the rear wheel.

    Great bike , rides smooth ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L I added a bigger spring loaded seat to it . Takes a bit of adjusting cables to get brakes and shifting to perfect . I've owned quite a few bikes in the past that were absolutely uncomfortable to ride and they always ended up as garage wall decor . I'm not seeing that with this one. It's pretty light I've only ridden it a few miles but I like it . As for the pedals falling off in the other reviews , the pedal arms are aluminum along with the pedal studs look to be also . I would not overtighten them. I can see it would be very easy to overtighten them and strip the threads right off . All in all I think it's pretty good quality besides the aluminum pedal thing
