DHGate 04 Acura MDX Navigation DVD Does Not Work

- I created this video as evidence for mediation. I bought a replacement DVD mechanism for my 2004 Acura MDX DVD Navigation system which says 'Check Disk' and cannot read the navigation DVD. I am hoping to get my money back for this drive which does not work. The seller was jianhonggroup .

I watched your video as I am having the same issue and have two questions comments1) did you try it with the dvd door closed? on mine, I get a message that the door is opened. Even if the card reader door is open I get a message. Maybe retry with your door closed.2) have you tried another disc? maybe the disc is indeed scratched
Hi, my have the same problem. do you know if we can replace the display with the one without navigation. (since it doesn't need the dvd rom unit) so we can adjust a/c fan only. Thanks

Thanks for post. I will not buy from them again. They sold me clone cell phone , complete junk. I have 2005 Acura MDX.Can you tell me please if a new DVD map solve your problem. My navigation screen says: Install Disk and that is all. I cannot control anything. I changed complete screen unit and it did not solve the problem. Looks like navigation dvd drive is not working correctly. I also used DVD disk cleaner and it did not work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Same problem I have in my 2005 Honda accord 😏
So you have not heater or AC? Did you send your old unit to Alpine?
We only have the auto AC buttons which allow you to set a temp and turn on defrost mode. From what I could tell, Alpine no longer repairs these.
@@tguski my auto buttons dont do anything. the buttons turn on and the temperatures show up but no air from vents
if it would have worked-do you leave the disk in there or take it out?
These units are repairable through Alpine Electronics. There is a 4 to 6 week turn around time but they are repairable. What I have found is that most people want a luxury car but do not want to pay a luxury price for maintenance so they buy junk from salvage yards or Chinese companies that are less than reputable. Beware Opuradio selling through Aliexpress and dhgate.
I've given up on it. I can still somewhat control the AC with the buttons. It's not ideal, but at least the backup camera still works. :)
Tad Guski how did you get the back up camera to work?
Tad Guski I had the same exact issue on my 04 mdx im trying to find a solution though hopefully even get the screen to go back before the navi screen started saying " cannot read the disk"
Chuck s - the backup camera and manual heat and AC controls still work.
Did you try to reset the new UNIT using the MENU, SETUP, CANCEL buttons? It is my understanding that you cannot just plug another unit in to your car without going through the ACURA SET-UP first.-
Go to the diagnostics menu by pressing and holding MENU, SETUP, and CANCEL simultaneously for 5 seconds.
- Select the VERSION tab.
- Now press DOWNLOAD, this will initiate the download of whichever version is on the disc that is currently in the DVD drive.
- Once the disc is done loading, the system will boot into the Diagnostic mode again.
- Hold the Map/Guide button for 5-10 seconds.
- A screen with a "Complete" button will appear.
- Touch "Complete" and then "Return". The system may reboot.
- Restart the vehicle, and verify it is working correctly.
Mine still doesn't work. I haven't been able to find a replacement anywhere. They just don't seem to be available anymore.
I just bought one used on eBay for $350 but still I'm getting the dreaded "Please check your Disc" error message. I've had my car for two years and this system never worked. I feel like I am missing out on a major function of the vehicle. I cannot even set the damn clock. This frustrates me to no end and I believe there should be a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against Honda/Acura corporation.
You have no idea the amount of vehicles that have this same problem. So why isn't this system considered a recall? Your guess is as good as mine. What I do know is that experts have stated that this car stereo is one of, if not the most difficult systems to replace with a custom unit. And this is because many of the cars systems are integrated into this navigation unit. WHAT A JOKE. I'm seriously considering tearing the damn screen out and somehow mounting a tablet in it's place.
I'm quite certain that you cant just plug it in and expect it to work. Each Nav. unit is programmed to work in a specific vehicle. You need to reset and enter new code for each unit install.

My problem isn’t this exact problem my navigation doesn’t work anymore it did until the battery died, now it says for me to put the PIN number in but the screen is froze so it won’t let me type anything on the screen
Ugh... Not sure what to say there. I don't have the vehicle anymore. We replaced it with a VW Atlas. Maybe try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting again to 'reboot' it again.

You can't replace the DVD drive because it is programmed to the motherboard, they are a matching set and must be replaced as a unit. You can swap the optical laser or take the DVD drive and swap out the PCB board onto the new drive to get the bad hard drive working again. Those are the only two options. I get the navigation displays and the DVD ROMs at the wrecking yards for $28-38 each. Most of the time they leave the navigation pin codes in the glove box which makes it easier so I don't have to call Acura.
Mine says the same thing, but it wont even let me eject the disc

You only have to clean the laser lens on the original unit and reinstall it.
How do you clean the lens?
Poor Design by Acura, trying to get you to spend money on a already obsolete navagation system. Acura should have a total upgrade replacement. Don't even have new DVDs. Having part of the climate controls mixed in was the worse problem.
