It takes less than 10 minutes to upgrade.
The demo is show in a 2008 Acura MDX with tech package. It uses the Navteq DVD Navigation for Acura.
The 2007-2009 Acura MDX Tech package has the DVD based Navigation.
The engine must be on to upgrade the DVD navigation system.
The DVD navigation system is under the driver side seat in our demo.
There are other Acura/Honda vehicles that have DVD based Navigation systems that would work with this upgrade as well.
Here's what I gathered on my list of supported White DVD navigation disk :

Check with Acura/Honda on the type of DVD you need to purchase for your vehicle before upgrading and on purchasing the DVD.
For vehicles with HDD, the upgrade of the Navigation may differ.

2021 disc (v4.K0) is the last update for these systems. No more updates but they are being offered for $79 while supplies last. If your car uses discs 4.13 or any version before 4.20 you will need to get the 2005 kit for MDX and RL which includes 2 discs (1 firmware and 1 map).
2005 kit is also for 2005 Odyssey and 2006 Ridgeline with map version 4.13 (any letter) or 4.20.
Some 2005's might have also gotten 4.09.
On my 2008 TL the compass on the map screen is actually a button. Touching that button (on the touch screen) toggles between "north up" and "driving direction up" modes.
$150 for an fing dvd is a ripoff.

garmin updates free for most thier gps modles
Honda now gives you free updates for 5 years on their Garmin based GPS in their new models.
Garmin's free updates have a catch though, if you forget to update within a certain amount of times, you lose your free updates. Garmin's free updates are for the life of the device, so they can easily take away your free updates at any time.
Are the map graphics any better or does it still look like pencil scratchings on paper?

Yes, if your vehicle supports the white DVD version. Look at the vehicle manufacturer website.
New Hondas have a Garmin system and those have free map updates for 5 years (your original map plus 4 updates) then after that a small fee for each update every year.
NSX now has 10 years of updates.

White disc is the only compatible disc for the 07-08 TL Type-S.

I have a 2012 TSX and my experience with the Green DVD does not resemble this video at all. There are 17 steps in the instructions, some of them automatic (trying not to make it sound worse than it is). On Page 1 of the printed instructions, the map update "set up time" is said to be about 30 minutes, then a background process for about 5 hours.
This video may be OK for the particular disk and model in it, but is not a "how to" which covers Acura vehicles generally.

If you have the green DVD one, probably good if you can post a process or video on it to help others. Sounds like the green DVD is long process.

Nope. Just maps. Guidance and graphics are the same.
Is there a big difference in how the navigation works from 2013 to the latest 2021? I’m interested in purchasing, just wondering if it’s worth it?

Your disk is an original I assume, try another disk if possible. Could be the dvd having issues.

I have a 2015 Acura ILX. They want $99 for the upgrade DVD! Do you know if I find a used/previously owned DVD on ebay or elsewhere, will work with me using it again on my vehicle?
Yes but some may not work with your vehicle or the maps are outdated. Best to get the latest from dealer.
Hard drive system cannot use used discs as that system uses a password to prevent sharing/piracy.

I think the 2003 is a different DVD.. Did you get the right one?

No it doesn't. I think if you push the map knob it goes to a different mode. Generally North is how most GPS has it.

Hi Sonia,
If you buy the Navtec one from the Acura version that's for the right version, it should work. The MDX was a DVD version. A lot better than the new ones you have to load on the TL or TLX.
03 MDX has no new updates since 2014. 2014 disc is the last disc for that system.

i have 2014 Acura MDX but it doesn't have a DVD player under the seat...so do I need to periodically do updates? I figured I'd do it every 4-5 years at their prices! crazy! I just use my phone for free! I use SCOUT on iPhone which always updates!

Probably can use Carplay with newer models on vehicles like maps also.
I know that some other luxury brands give you a few years of free updates. Mercedes does, but only a dealer can do them as they use special hard drives and tools.
You put the DVD into the audio CD drive for the HDD system. Requires a special Password, VIN and Device ID.

Netman, don’t know if you are still reading this comment section but do you know if navigation DVD also contains software updates for the navigation system? I remember updating system software with a DVD but don’t remember if it was a separate DVD or my 2011 white DVD. I could be wrong and there was no software update at all and just map update but I distinctly remember wishing the system would be faster after update. Thanks
Just 1 DVD, no other DVDs were included. It's only the maps and nothing else.
@@netman88 Software does get updated, but just minor updates. I know when I updated my dads car, the software clearly went up in version.

I have a 2011 MDX. DVD mps will not load (put in CD player). Has anyone tried transferring data to USB and loading from there. This is a know problem. Talked with a tech at here.com.
My 2017 Acura TLX has garmin along with all new honda vehicles including Acura
TLX uses the HDD system made by Alpine as my mom has that system in her RDX.

google maps is good too.. I prefer on vehicle with bigger screen. I used my google maps while travels and went over my data plan.. ouch, a few months ago.

No, the drive only reads the map DVD, that's it.

Hi my name is Angel. Do you know how I can delete an address from my navigation disc? I bought a new navigation dvd player from ebay and it has old address still saved there but I dont know how to delete it. It's for my 2005 Acura MDX
+Angel Aponte It's not on the DVD. It's probably player. Once you hit 50 addresses, it will fall off. There is a place to clear all addresses also. ua-cam.com/video/TLrFpxaC_98/v-deo.html is the video on this info.

Not for that model years. I assume if not DVD based ones, maybe. Check your vehicle first.

+Clay Davis Check your Acura Navigation pin code card (usually along menu). I saw on the web, you can hold down Menu + Map + Cancel button hold for 15 sec. Then press Nav ECU.. that the serial # appears.
If you do not have that you will need to ask the Dealer with the S/N of the unit.

what about 06 acura tl. My navi is telling me to check disk. My disk has no scratches so i know its not that. Do you have any idea why i am getting this error. Is it possible that the disks become outdated?

Acura does NOT support any screw-ups caused by these DVD’s! Period! This is a third party company even though Acura’s name is on the email, DVD disks, all packaging and box it comes in. I know this for a fact. My 2017 RDX gps, music and phone recognition is now garbage because of this crap. I sat in my car for over 2 hours waiting of this third rate trash to totally screw up my system. I called every number I could find from Acura Customer Care, Acura Customer Support, Acura In Car Tech Support, even the number on the DVD case and ABSOLUTELY NO ONE COULD/ WOULD HELP! The dealer actually cared enough to look at this but said they are not able to help either. I’ll not buy another Acura, not because they aren’t excellent cars, but because the approve of letting some sorry company use their name to sucker people into purchasing this garbage and not supporting it in any way. Goodbye Acura, I have had enough of your lack of support!

The shame is that honda has a horrible navigation system and it doesnt get any better with each upgrade. Its no more than a rip off. Constantly tells me to make a right turn, quickly followed by make a UTURN.

These are the shittiest updates ever made and a complete rip off. $150
for something they should be providing for free?? There are so many
locations that the NAV system cant find even though the location has
been around for decades. One Best Western Hotel right off the freeway
in LaGrande Oregon my Honda NAV could not find, and just gave up by
showing the map. When I got to the top of the off ramp, it just stopped
navigating. Honda Navigation sucks.
