    Parts are available for this unit, but you can actually fix the ribbon cable by soldering the wires on the connector and it will work just fine.

    Our 2007 Honda Odyssey had this wear problem after 180,000 miles on the DVD. I put some transparent tape on the ribbon connector in a couple of places showing wear and reassembled the unit. There are a couple of tricks including being careful gaining access to the damaged surfaces of the ribbon connector. You must remove the 4 wire (tiny) ribbon connector on the PCB prior to lifting the PCB up far enough to access the faulty ribbon connector. I was fortunate that the conductors were not worn all the way through. Only the ribbon cable insulation (very thin flexable plastic) was damaged which, however, probably allowed one or more of the signal lines to short out to the metal surface against which the ribbon connector rubs.Thanks for posting enough hints for me. I am an experienced DIY guy and also a retired Electrical Engineer. 11AUG18

      Keith, did placing tape over the worn insulation fix the suspected short? Mine looks similar. Was the process more than just wiping off the dust and putting tape on it or did you do more (e.g., test the individual lines for a solid connection, use kapton tape, sand between any lines, etc.)?

    • @TenorSaxMan66
      @TenorSaxMan66 5 років тому +1

      I was lucky. I only put transparent tape after wiping off the wear dust from the ribbon connector. It appears mine was just shorting out with no connectors broken. If I had it to do over again, I would put on two or three layers of transparent tape so I could get a few more miles out of the DVD player (pun intended). Good luck Russell.

    Solved! - Had an issue where the DVD was inserted and then could hear it spin. The screen would show loading for a long period of time - followed by a disc error message. I tore the system down and had it plugged in to watch if there was an obvious issue. Turns out the ribbon cable that attaches to the optical arm has an extra flap that was getting caught. There is a loop of extra cable that is used to allow the arm to move in and out. The extra part of the cable is loose and was getting caught in main motor that spun the disc. Ribbon cable I am referring to moves at around 4:05. I tapped the loose part of the ribbon cable to the motor and it works like a charm. Thanks for the great video - led to a solution!

      +clizay1 After I removed a stuck coin from the DVD player from my 2011 Honda Odyssey, I'm seeing the same problem. Loading.. and then "Check Disk" message. I used a cardboard with sticky tape and may be the ribbon got loose?
      Do you have the picture of the final fix (cable taped to the motor)? or better yet few pictures to show the process. Thanks!

    I have a 2006 Acura TL alpine NAV DVD unit whose disk won't spin up. I would like to try bench testing to find the problem to see if it is something like what you found. So I was wondering if you or anyone knew which connector and which pins to apply 12VDC while on a bench to power it up.

    It seems I have the same issue. Disk light in is on but nothing will play or come out. My first question is how do you get the car panel out to take the dvd player out. Secondly, in your video, you said added electric current to the motor to delete? What do you mean by that?

    Sometimes you cant findthe FFC so if you know or know someone good at reverse engineering you can scan the ffc make measurements of the pin pitch then generate a gerber file from software like design spark pcb and use a ffc/pcb mfg like pcbway or pcbgogo etc.. there's quite a few and have it made.

    Thanks for posting this. I hope to fix mine. Would you post a quick vid of how to remove the player? Just give us the high lights.
    Also, what interface does it connect with ? Have anyone had any luck putting in a different DVD reader or even a hard drive or a SD card reader ? Anyone ? Thanks

    Here's my question. I ordered the replacement unit from the opuradio site, but after placing it in my van I keep getting an "F2 error". From what I've read, that means the unit is built to read discs from a different DVD region. Do you know how to switch the region code to USA/Canada from what I'm assuming is China?

  • @koshster

    I have a 2007 Honda Pilot. The DVD's eject and load fine but it makes some jitter type noises and after a short time it says Error on the display. I have found that even a used DVD player is quite expensive and so I want to try to fix it myself. I suspect the laser may have gone bad because it started to have difficulty reading some DVD's before it just quit reading anything. I replaced the laser in my PlayStation 3 without too much issues, so I am sure this one would be a similar process if I could find the part. The Honda Odyssey has a very similar looking DVD player but it is a different part number. I wonder what are really the differences? Anyone know? Also, I have seen people on Ebay offering repair services anywhere from $170 to $250 for these drives. If a part or parts could be sourced, this might be a good way to make a little extra money on the side ;-)

    Thank you for taking your time and doing this video. My 10 year old daughter stuck a quarter into the DVD slot. They kept on trying to play the DVD when I was not there. I turned the car off and with tweezers, I was able to pull the DVD out. The DVD player turns on and actually loads the DVDs. The problem now is that nothing happens when you hit play. It is also difficult to eject, but after a few tries the DVDs do come out. I have actually taken the dvd player outside of the car. Can you help me?

    I called Panasonic (Encompass - their part distributor, and I ordered a connector - K1KB0600085. Unfortunately, they do not have part pictures, so it's just a gamble for now until the part comes. Panasonic was unable to cross reference the part to confirm that it was the correct one. There are only 7 parts to purchase...and this one was $6.01. 800.211.7262 was their phone number...
