Under the leadership of Prime Minister Kishida, Japan is projected to increase military spending by almost 60 percent by 2027. We’re talking about a massive increase of naval power, boosting US arms deliveries, such as Tomahawk missiles, and a new fleet of F-35 stealth multirole combat aircraft, but most importantly, the country is going to upgrade and fully modernize its Maritime Self Defense Force. Japan is building two gigantic Aegis system equipped vessels, modernizing all its existing Guided Missile Destroyers to the Aegis Combat System, as well as building an entire new series of Mogami-class Frigates. The objective for Japan is to increase their projection of force and be able to defend Taiwan when the time comes.

How was your vacation?
Japan would not stand a chance in a war against China. The outcome would be very very much different than the mauling the Kuomintang gave the Chinese military in WW2.
Is this True or another propaganda with origin from United States?
There was a time they told said Saddam has WMD.
War against terror in Afghanistan.
Then Ukraine.
Now China.
Why are these people always in a fight with one country or another instead of friendship and humanity?
All I see around the world is destruction and no solution to real human problems.
Why is United States always declaring war against countries around the world. I just don't understand this.
Japan is also a high technology turn key nuclear weapons nation, it would take nothing for Japan to go from nuclear power to weapons, a fact never talked about
Having Japan on your side is so important. They're the only country to have defeated a giant lizard, a three headed giant monster from outer space, a giant worm and a giant flying tortoise. What other country can boast such feats?
It was only a movie. Like man landing on the moon.
They never defeated those things. They just let them destroy Tokyo and rebuilt the city for the next movie.
You forgot the GIANT MOTH 🦋
Well the united states defeated aliens multiple times
😂😂😂😂
Japan is growing on anything but population
Same goes for most ( western ) countries.
Russia has a long term demographic crisis.
Probably why Putin has an ICC arrest warrant on his head for child trafficking.

Same for China 😂
At least Japan HAS a strategy. Here in Australia, the strategy is mostly to hang on to the coat-tails of the US, allow US bases in Australia to do whatever they want (with no requirement of disclosure to Australian government or people) and direct our defence spending as we are told... in the hope that the US will come to our rescue if & when needed.
Both Australia and Japan are USA's client states. For a time, you live in dollar zone, which is for a time being is more or less well, but for long-term perspective they will brainwash you against Russia, China or what ever USA decide to. And then you guys will get what you deserve, and USA will make round eyes and propaganda another bunch of fools to get rockets instead of them.
And it comes from a guy who love Australia very much.
Pretty much same in Japan.........On top of that, Japan has no money & so much debt.
Or they could have the strategy of minding their own business
@Boozful8 spotted the fascist
To protect you from ............. your #1 economical partner. Dang, Aussies are dumb.
The only danger coming from China is making you rich. Good luck seeing your economy disappear if you cut ties.
72% of Australia's economy is connected to China.
I am one of 100,000 American military personnel living in Japan. Despite what it looks like on paper, Japan is still a very pacifist nation. I have witnessed large protests against nuclear arms and defense spending during my three years here. For better or for worse, Japan is still 99% reliant on the US military and happily so.
Edit: the theory that Japan is gearing up to defend Taiwan is laughable
It may be funny, but the statement comes from the former Prime Minister of Japan, and the Chinese also prepare in this way
Tell that to Kishida then, He's hell-bent on war with China. Ive lived in Japan for 30 years. I've never seen anything like this. Very scary times.
The extreme pacism is mainly in older generations and the leftist pacifists are just a part of the population and really naive. Japan has to start defending itself more. China under Xi has become very aggressive. Nukes are necessary and so are the Americans stationed there.
It's about showing strength to prevent a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. China's navy is kinda weak compared to its land based forces. An invasion requires massive shipments of troops.
Japanese is not 'reliant' on the US military. They are occupied by the US military. Much like South Korea, the Philippines and my country, Australia. We wish you'd all just, **** off.
The only reason why Japan is a pacifist country is because the US wrote its constitution. The only people who protest the building of an actual military Japan are leftists and Marxists.
No one should be under any illusion that Japan is not a client state of America. Their foreign policy is decided in Washington, ever since 1945 when their constitution was written by America and their land was occupied by American military bases.
@@AdamA-pm3yn While Japan is clearly a client state of America, it is also the case that Japan has been deliberately fostering an unaggressive public image. And doubtless when Japan is ready to cease being America's client state, I'm sure their newly expanded military will facilitate the eviction notice.

The issue is Russia has the Kuril islands on lock and North Korea has South Korea in check.
All those US bases won't account for much as they are logistically unsustainable
his handlers arent that good obviously.
Such BS. Russia isn't stupid enough to have another war. Their military is so bound in Ukraine that they backstabbed Armenia, which had always been a close ally. North Korea won't do anything either because it can be easily destroyed as it is ultra-centralized.
China won't start a war either with their economy in grave recession due to the ultra-extreme lockdownd and Xi's general incompetence. He is constantly purging high ranking officials like ministers, generals etc. He had become paranoid because of his power hunger and dictator for life position. It has nearly the same demographic problems as Japan, too.
Logistically unsustainable in what way?
Not just logistically unsustainable, but without range to be complete raised to the ground within the first few hours. It would be a complete and total antihalation of these forward bases.
Logistically, they are VERY sustainable. The supply lines from Hawaii to Guam to anywhere in Japan are firmly established, and the bases there are equipped for heavy fighter, bomber, and cargo use. I’m not going to disclose any exact figures, but Okinawa alone can hold a LOT of aircraft if it needed to.
If they weren’t sustainable for an actual conflict, we wouldn’t have them.

Unfortunately, the weakest link in the Japanese plan is the American component. You need to develop indigenous equipment for your particular needs. One size doesn't fit all.

Japanese military forces are some of the most polite, generous, and intelligent people I’ve ever had the honor to do drills with, in 20 years overseas. I do regret never getting the option to see Taiwan (separate topic). My brother said they have the best food on this planet.
Interestingly, Taiwanese food practices come from China, their streets are named after Chinese cities, and their armies and warships are named after ancient Chinese generals.
@@user-bu3wp3up9f well let’s be real. They use to be part of the main land of China, so that doesn’t surprise me.

A year or two ago I saw an ad from a website for foreigners seeking to work in Japan. One of the jobs listed was for ship wielders listed as being high in demand. This video made that ad make sense. Japan is ramping up their navy!

Hypersonic missiles are not accurate enough to target a warship yet. The thing you are talking about are ballistic missiles and they can be defended with regular SAM.

Japan should come to the realization that with or without American military support, as the middle man, in a war against modern China (not the same ball of wax as in World War II), it can lose everything. Best option is to let the Chinese know that in any dispute concerning Taiwan, it will remain neutral. At the same time, on a face to face, honest level, let the Chinese know that it will defend its own territorial and economic interests, and that this is the purpose of increased military spending. The Chinese are not stupid and can understand such a position. Besides, they are not out to gain any major territory now forming part of Japan. Neutrality from a position of strength should be Japan's policy vis-à-vis Taiwan; if this disturbs its alliance with the United States, so be it --- the continuity of your homeland comes first. This same position should also be made clear in its relationship with Russia.
You only look from the perspective of what China can do to Japan. Many people forget what Japan can actually do to China. With American help China can be destroyed in a single day at the expense of Japan ofc.

Japan has all the means to acquire nuclear weapons. They could do it in a year time many say. Some even say 6 months (I doubt that, though). The problem is Japan's postwar constitution and the Japanese's population's pacifism, which does not want it.
The best equalizing force against China is for Japan to develop hypersonic missiles, IRBM's with HGV's, and something similar to Russia's Poseidon, which they could equip to their own submarines.

Ukraine has proven that all these sophisticated navy ships can be easily destroyed or disabled by remote drones. The future of wars will be fought mostly by land, sea, and air based drones.
But at least Japan still needs to have a lot of human resources to produce, develop and train itself to operate advanced military drones.

These expensive naval units are good for embargos and to counter china's area denial strategy with their cabbage tactics on the seas. However, they're ineffective against low cost asymmetric weapons like missiles or water mines. They're just big hunks of dead metal if it becomes a hot war.
Hypersonic missiles have made ships obsolete. 🚀💥🚢
Look deeper. There is an economic war here that eclipses militarization. The Japanese Yen is devaluating faster than anytime since WW2. For over 30 years, they've battled deflation, and they've finally found their terminal solution strategy: Military MMT Economics.
By devaluating the currency, they've become more competitive against the Chinese in both export terms and military cost structure. Whats worse is they can't stop this expenditure because the bond market would collapse. This recent militarization is the 1st step of a long road to mobilization. A road they can not economically turn back from
@@windyvista3657That's why naval units are good for embargos. When the Malacca Strait was controlled by Americans, China's economy quickly plummeted. Hence these naval units are not useful in direct combat, but they are still essential. You can put cruise missiles on them, but if the opponent has long-range missiles, or worse, ICBMs, these expensive ships become junk. Nuclear deterrence may be deemed not as much a risk since the armies are fighting out in the oceans, and we can imagine a hot war breaking out eventually as the security competition intensifies.
Blue-water capability is also useful for power projection especially to where the oil is transported from the Persian Gulf. There's going to be competition on who controls the water lanes that bring in the oil.
Not as bad as having debt more than 100% and buying US treasury bonds from China, which will raise interest rates or cause inflation, which can cause an economical crisis if not handled properly
China has also dramatically sold US Treasury bonds reducing China having 1trillion$ to 890billion$ in a few years
@rageburst I'm of the opinion that the most likely outcome is a non-nuclear hot war of medium-high intensity. I also don't think the Japanese or Americans would automatically engage in combat once the shooting starts.
There would likely need to be some Taiwanese political provocation to kick it off, like a langley color revolution or an outright political shift towards Washington. If that were to occur, the Pentagon would've already armed the country to the best of its capacity; therefore, it's in Washington's best strategic interests to put the lid on the pot and keep it on simmer.
Washington will likely avoid direct military intervention to avoid the potential costs of losing Navy Servicemen and expensive warships.
The hesitancy of Washington will be the determining factor in the escalation of the war. If Washington loses an aircraft carrier with its thousands of valuable personnel, there might be some loose nuclear fingers in the pentagon. In my opinion, both sides will avoid opening the nuclear pandora's box.
I don't know if they already have, but Japan must go thr Hungarian way and give money to families that have children. Japanese government has plenty of dept but also plenty of income as they are huge stock investors. Benefit of it, invest in tangible assets, farming, local industry so primary products become cheaper and people can have more children. Local industry > financial investment when facing danger.
Not even Hungary has a positive birth rate over 2.10. And even if they have somewhere a positive birth rate over 4 children like in Nigeria there is no security that this children will be useful because it's possible that this kids could be brainwashed.
I'm pretty sure they do pay people for having kids.
Also, I absolutely agree they need to invest in their rural communities. They have faced such massive depopulation over the decades with so many moving to the cities that the only real way to revive these areas is to start paying people to move back there.
Another thing that would help greatly with the population issue is just reforming their work culture, not make it so demanding, lower the lengthy work week somewhat and try to avoid having every day be so soul crushing. So many people don't have any time to even form a relationship, much less raise a child. And even if they do have time, the work and schools are so overbearing that I believe many are hesitant to throw their child into such an environment in the first place.
@@ARANDOMLITHUANIAN bruh, leave anime out of this
The Hungarian way didn't help at all, trust me - it's only the gipsies who bred more, but they would've done it anyways... In 2022, birth records in Hungary reached a historic low-point.
I don’t want to make you disillusioned but the family support doesn’t live up to the expectations and the population is still shrinking in Hungary. I’m from Budapest to make it clear.
The most important thing is not to make enemies. Japan should become like Mongolia. Although they are sandwiched between Russia and China, which they once conquered, they are keeping a dignified independence.
finland is keeping dignified independence. mongolia has 544 USD median wage per month, similar to russia.
However much Japan Navy is growing, China's navy is growing 5 times faster, so the difference will get bigger and bigger, that's why USA is panicking thinking of ways to prevent that.
Not to mention navy attacking a big and industrial country like China is not realistic.
Even hundreds of years ago, ships couldn't realistically take forts because ships can sink, but it take a lot to destroy a fort with ships.
And modern navy is all about submarines. They can sink every ship there is, no matter how many.
Not to mention if war is near China's coast, all the missiles and fighter jets would be a big problem too.
All US cares about if if China can invade Taiwan, and they can't right now. Maybe blockade it.
Cope.
No shit Japan couldnt take China alone. Modern Japan's strategy has never been to fight China on their own. Japan, S Korea, Vietnam, Phillipines, Taiwan...etc all hate China and would fight them too. And ofc the US, UK, and Aussies would all join the fight too
China's navy is growing but its weak, China is an oligarchy much like russia their equipment is mostly designed to make money for these elite friends of the state not necessarily effectiveness
its very easy to prevent that, search "offensive sea mining"
Best thing Japan can do in their situation is neutrality and stop listening to America because they don't actually care about Japan unless they buy military hardware from them.
I doubt that. China isn’t going to stop at just Taiwan, as its borders stand now its trying to incorporate all of the old borders of China which if this keeps up will include, Korea, Vietnam, and Mongolia. If you run the proposed specs on their new large destroyers, you quickly realize they don't add up. A length of 210m and a beam of 40m for a start is a very fat ship, that's a L/B ratio of 5.25, most cargo ships are higher than six and most warships are closer to 8. And even is you take those numbers as a given, and then apply a beam to draught ratio of 4 (highest) that's a draught of 10m, and then give it a hull fineness of 0.5 (the hull takes up half the volume of a box the same dimensions) you get a displacement of 42,000 tonnes, more than twice the proposed 20,000. So something definitely has to give.
I reckon (I don't know) that there are actually two designs being considered, the one the government wants which is 210m length, 26m beam, and 6.5m draught, tipping the scales at about 18,000 tonnes. And the one the JMSDF wants which is 320m long, 40m beam, 10m draught, tipping the scales at 64,000 tonnes.

The last time japan went to war with an aspiring nuclear state it did not end well. So you would go with option 3? 🙂
I've wondered why Japan doesn't work on it's most important shortfall. Fuel.
As you talked about, they might run short of missiles & other supplies. Fuel has been a traditional Japanize soft spot.
It's possible to make JP-5 and other military grade fuel with sea water, air, electricity and the proper mechanical equipment.
I see four options depending on their priorities.
1. Land based, underground either near nuclear power plants or with their own.
2. Submarine based (nuclear) with the ability to surface & refuel vessels with a low risk of being damaged in an air/cruise missile attack on the fleet.
3. As part of a traditional supply vessel but with most of the space taken up with reactors, equipment & fuel tanks.
4. As a full on helicopter carrier (nuclear) but with multiple V-22s, with VARS pods, to transfer fuel to ships, land, air refueling. (instead of F-35Bs)
They could follow more than one path, but I'm especially interested because the a various roles they could be used for.
With sea based fuel production their fleet could be sent anywhere and not worry about running low on fuel.
With land based fuel production they would have a small backup supply being produced if the war is longer than their fuel stocks.
If they are not in the war, but fuel importing is disrupted all the ships could return to home bases to supplement the home supply.
Welcome back my friend!
This is some sad news for a Sunday afternoon, but I would rather hear the cold hard truth so, thank you! Forwarned is forearmed. Keep up the great work and stay safe.

JAPAN is an occupied country end of story..
but murrica says it is free. Free only to obey the US, thus in US mainstream fakery, they call it beacon of democracy, just like EU oppression is democracy, under the US heavy boot.
We waited for video about ukraine not about land of pensioners
I think it’s because of the sponsorship from Conflict of Nations…
ruzz frontlines collapsing, he can't report on that yet
@@GHST995Lol how is it collapsing? Can you give me an example of where the ukrainians pushed the russians back to their home territory or almost did it within these last few months?
He might report on the Storm Shadow missle hitting Crimea.
This is scary. I lived 6 years in Asia working as a consultant in most of the countries, the most nationalist and imperialist (and xenophobic) country is still Japan. We should not let them be powerful again.
even japan's navy crew looks old wtf, they look like middle aged salarymen working in Japan's corporations.
I wonder if they would allow themselves to be the naval Ukraine when China eventually attacks Taiwan 😊
Japanese officials have already stated that they will join the US in defending Taiwan.
Try to keep up.
What a shame then, looks like humans never learn.

The Kaga is nearly done with its conversion to a full-fledged aircraft carrier.
What for? For what?
@@kengsenchong4010 Since the Japanese are upgrading their navy they decided to turn the ship Kaga and here sister Izumo into official aircraft carriers. I don't know about Izumo, but I do know that Kaga was in the docks getting renovated, you know how the forward deck was rounded well that was changed into a more square shape so now it looks similar to an America-class amphibious assault ship. And she should be getting her complement of F-35B's soon. It's nice to see the great Kaga make her return.
Japan and South Korea are just Ukraine 2.0 and 3.0 in Asia. Eager to carrying out the bidding of the US, while ignoring the fact that the US always uses its allies as cannon folders.
VLS on ships can fire a tomahawk, which means the AEGIS ashore system can also fire a tomahawk, which can fly over 1600 km, which again means the NATO AEGIS sahore complex located near Redzikowo, Poland, can shoot at Moscow (and the tomahawk also suddenly can carry nuclear warhead)🙃
this is why Moscow was unhappy with NATO's eastward expansion.
that is why this war began in response to Ukraine’s invitation to NATO 🤪
just imagine the Russians placing nuclear cruise missiles in the Bermuda area,
and at the same time they say, “don’t worry, these universal vertical launchers only contain anti-air missiles for the defense of Moscow”.
😆
Ukraine never got an invitation. Exactly the opposite! Ukraine was denied access to NATO multiple times
They should place nukes in south America and Cuba 😅
it is a treaty violation to have ground launched cruise missiles with that range. you are not correct
tomahawks do not carry nuclear warheads either

words are just words (especially the words of politicians) what is important is what happens on the ground
Japan main issue is not being attacked by China it's main issue is their population is disappearing as the amount of births is not keeping up with deaths. If Japan does not quickly address this issue there country is going to implode as they will definitely not be enough people to serve in the military but also not enough people to feel in important jobs such as nurses, doctors, labors, manufacturing, etc...
there is no way to address this issue. First you need to get rid of feminism, 2nd you need to get rid of all social welfare. Never gonna happen. therefore population in all nations with these 2 polices will keep decreasing
That is y foreigner's are there
@@AMOUREDD Better to just implode itself then
As if China and Russia does not experience it too, especially china with one child policy. Good thing Japan established advanced industries
Same for China. Tell china to focus on their own demographic crisis than on conquering taiwan.

He should do a video like this but on South Korea next.
This kinda reminds me how the Romans after beating the Goths trained and rearmed them to help them fight to other barbarians. Not exactly the same situation, bit still... the resemblance is uncanny.
I believe Japans' biggest problem is most Japanese understand the cost of War, and how, during WW2, Generals showed little concern for the lives of men serving under their command, with human wave assaults, which is one of the reasons Japan today has a problem with low population, millions on Japanese men died due to this strategy, in WW2!
Go to school before you write stupid comments
Human wave assaults?? Isn't that what Ukraine is doing right now in their Eastern Front? So basically, whatever country is created in the territory of present-day Ukraine will have a problem with low population, huh?
Japan doesn't have a low population lol, they have a very low fertility rate, just like most of the world
Bullshit, Japan’s population boomed after WW2. The Japanese people were incredibly zealous and showed a great sense of duty to serve and die for their nation. They were honorable and disciplined, in contrast to the dishonorable and corrupt empire of eunuchs to their west.
@@faustianfellaheen what are you talking about?!? Germany? Germany was less violent during the war, the only reason they get such a bad name is because they targeted a specific group of people. Meanwhile the Japanese never paid for their insane crimes against humanity, in fact many of the people responsible for these crimes even made deals with the us government such as unit 731
Last time we let this happen 30 million people died. So I wouldn't let this happen again and if I were in charge I would prevent all this from happening again with 2 nukes just as last time.
2 nukes one on beijing one on shanghai
erm ok???? so you gnna nuke an allied country, japan needs the budget increase being that close to china etc
Japanese would never tried that if the US didn't pushed for that. Maybe a solution to all the problem is the dissolution of US in separate states.

Unlikely, for anyone who has been paying attention China is not like the USA, it tends to focus on economic advantages instead of waging wars. The exception is with Taiwan which both Beijing and Taiwan consider to be part of China. They just don’t agree who the legitimate government is. Look for China to make a move within the next few years and if its military then technically it will be a civil war.
Japan is also fooled by the US

Love your videos, man from America. I don't agree with everything. But you are very detailed. And I am very grateful for all the information that you have together. About whatever topic. Great work
It's so nice seeing nations getting their balls back.
Good for Japan for beefing up its military. They're a good people and need a away to fight back. Personally they should have named those Two Ships Bataan and Pearl Harbor. A nice reminder of what happens when you fuck around. You end up finding out.
Hope Japan isn't gearing up to invade China yet again. As I recall at least 5-6 different times with the worst one being in 1937. Whereas China hasn't tried to invade Japan ever... (correct me if I'm wrong) with the exception of the Mongol led Yuan dynasty.
True but that was mainly because China was never able to invade Japan until very recently.
That's very impossible. Japan is very pacifistic. It's 2023, it's more the other way around, China is capable of invading countries. All border conflicts are China's fault. If it's Mongolia, India, Vietnam, Taiwan or the Philippines. All of them face the dominance assertions from China. China's military is strong enough to deal with all those mentioned countries... and that is threatening.
If china reminded japan what happened the last time they tried to fight a nuclear capable country, nobody else in asia would mind.
This episode could have been labeled, 'A strong offense is a good defense'.
@historylegends your stuff on Ukraine conflict is great, but direct some of your usual skepticism for Western narratives on this subject. The only geopolitical threat Japan is facing is from its long-time "ally and partner" the US. Japan pays, US MIC gets rich. The saying, "...to be friends with America is fatal!" is as true as ever.
The costs for the missile defense purchased from the US is out of proportion to the actual cost of making and maintaining these systems ... it is far better for Japan to built their own systems especially as with the war in Ukraine the Russians and as a proxy the Chinese learn how to counter most Western/US missiles and missile defense systems.
Japan be like "we don't want you to do what we did to you in Manchuria."
LOOOL I almost died choked with my own food in laughter, with the Pearl Harbor and Bataan. But Japan's new fleet looks impressive.

Let's not forget the fact that last time Japan invaded China, China was in the middle of their own civil war.
china also lost to russia in their last war and they weren't in civil war
China would love them to try. They have a lot of payback to dish out. I would find that entertaining.
offensive sea mining will block chinese ships. after they have used their missiles, they have nothing.

they are not as silly as russians, that never think beforehand the consequences of their actions.
Japan's back fellas. My grandfather: "and I took that personally"
Welcome back
Quick reminder Japan still hasn't signed a peace treaty with Russia, but did with US! Also, the amount of drones being super effective against Russia's fleet can change the way naval warfare will be waged.
Just have an army of drones
Long time ago, people were playing war games and concluded that very fast, small, patrol boats with large payloads could overwhelm a modern day task force (if they were smart). Drones seem like an extension of that. Same concept, but now with less cost. Exact thing that happened in WW2. Battleships worth (in today's money) hundreds of millions could be destroyed by a bomber worth 100x less. It's force multiplication being applied in a more cost effective manner.
14:58, "For Japan's Aging Military, the Future Is a Gray Area". I see what you did there
Japan imports almost all of it's food and fuel, and frankly all of it's raw materials. It's a country with low birth rate and virtually no natural resources. Assuming China goes all out, for a short 1-2 months war, perhaps Japan can hold out. But for an all out multi-year war, certainly not.
If i was a citizen of a country who is a stones throw away from china, N.Korea and Russia, I would be terrified.
With the war in Ukraine we have found drones are the answer to warships... hmm I wonder which country has the industry capacity to produce drones in wholesale batches
AI underwater drone-bombs in the future.
ships will be pretty obsolete, sea faring will be easily denied, from everyone.
The biggest problem with Japan's strategy is that the US it self is a sinking ship........., what will japan do once the US ship does Sink? Sink with them because they tide them self so tightly to the US warship?
My brain hurt reading that. Think two braincells died in the process.
