Chag Sameach! I am not jewish, but I love Israel and celebrate with a jewish friend here in Norway. Some years ago I bought a big chanukia at Mehane Yehuda in Jerusalem, 60 cm high. It is great. Had a chanukkaparty last monday and will gather friend for closing the feast coming monday. Eating sufganiot, latkes and pancaces with cheese and date-honey from Shomron. We also read from the books of Maccabees. Lovely.

Hi Oren, yesterday we visited Jerusalem and enjoyed Hanukkah lighting ceremony plus yummy donuts at many places, unfortunately we missed the main lighting ceremony" Kotel Menorah. Happy Hanukkah to everyone🕎
Greetings for Chanukah Oren to you and your family, I never realised that families lite their candles outside, I grew up in London so perhaps our weather is not so inviting outside although some people would have their Menorah in the window to be seen outside in Jewish areas. Thank you for letting us .in all the different countries who follow your channel share an Israeli experience. 🕎🕎🕎✡✡💓

John 10:22, KJV: "And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter." Thanks for the videos Oren... I learn a lot from you. Also, I enjoy watching your videos. It makes me feel I have been to Israel, when in fact visiting your country is a dream for me as of now.....
That's really interesting. It's good to know references like that because I think it brings people closer together when we can find similarities in our cultures. I had a Chanukah party for my kids years back, when we were living in an area with very few Jewish people. So my kids wanted to invite everyone from their class and the majority of the people who came were Indian and they explained that the Hindu festival of Diwali is very similar, whereas a few Christian people were quite rude about it and refused to bring their children! Thank you for your reference: very educational! ☺️🕎
It should be noted that the word "Hanukkah" literally means "Dedication". While the festival at different times has had other names....Festival of Lights etc, it is fundamentally an 8 day festival, carried out in the manner of the nearby festival of Sukkot, commissioned by Judas Maccabeus in the year 164 CE as an annual commemoration of the re-commencement of sacrifices following the cleansing of the Temple and in affect the ending of Seleucid Rule, though not control. This festival clearly had strong political implications, as suggested by the exclusion of the books of the Maccabees from the Jewish Bible and emphasis of the "celebration" of a miracle rather that the re-dedication of the temple ......one might wonder why John should choose to include such a political reference in his Gospel. Though it should also be noted that it is in John that we see reference to the observance of Jewish biblical festivals by Jesus though this is the only attendance of a non-biblical event......again interesting.
That is interesting. Given that I wonder why the Protestant reformers did not include the Book of Maccabees in the Protestant canon. Seems they excluded books that were not in the Jewish canon.
@@happydillpickle Some Christians believe Yeshua (Jesus, light of the Word) was implanted without a man into Mary who was of the line of David, during the Feast of Lights. From John 1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John (Yohhanan). 7 He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came first to bear witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father's side, he has made him known. And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ (Messiah the Anointed One).” And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.” (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie, he will baptize in the Spirit of Holliness.” These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit and Spirit of truth.’ And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God."

Thank you for another interesting video! Just a small note on the Christian Bible. The Apocrypha, which the Maccabees is part of, is not a part of the Christian biblical Canon. The Catholic church added it in their Bibles, but I don't think they too count is as Canon. The Christian protestant biblical Canon is the exact same as the Jewish Tanakh (except the order of the books are different) with the addition of the Greek texts (The New testament).
Thank you Oren for this beautiful insight into Hanukkah. I had the privilege of being part of the lighting of the second Hanukkah candle here in Sydney earlier this week. Definitely an amazing experience. Happy Hanukkah!

Normaly i also have a Chanukja at home and people enyoy the Lights during 8 days. B H to you Oren and thank you very much. Hope we can visit 2022 Eretz Isroel
Love you too, Oren. I love this special little window into Jerusalem at Hanukkah- a place and a people very near to my heart. BTW, Protestants (for the most part) don’t view the Apocryphal books as Scripture either- due to their differing in doctrinal issues. We hold only the Old Testament (Tanakh) and the New Testament as inspired.
John 10:22 shows Jesus in Jerusalem at Hanukkah. Jesus also is the light of the world. It just seems things get clearer and clearer. My mind was blown when I saw that as explained by a Jewish friend who also loves Yeshua (Jesus). Please take everything I am about to say with a grain of salt, I am still prayerfully figuring the following out. The Bible as we have it is a collection decided after and not during the time of Jesus, that's a fact, it's literally written about him after him and the writings from closer to his life where it talks about the early believers fasting twice a week are not in there, because, I agree, how some church ran themselves is not the message for all to obey as the word of God to all, that said, not saying it was not a message from God to them. Am I making sense? The word apocryphal always sounded like it must be false books, but I am learning it's just extra history most of the time BUT I AM NO EXPERT ON THAT. It seems there is no differing in doctrine or contradictions, but I do see how "doctrinal issues" (meaning desired religious doctrine) would have some of these teachings ignored or questioned if you had yet to experience what it has to say, an example being the book of Enoch (heavy on the teachings of the spiritual) that Jesus quoted, and rebuked people for "not knowing the scripture." My point is, while I put cannon scripture first when it comes to what I read, I no longer fear reading other writings from the time and letting the Holy Spirit help me understand by checking scripture to scripture and prayerful decrement. However, it's fascinating that the books of Enoch, were rediscovered in the Dead Sea scrolls about 70 years ago. I remember thinking it was WRONG to read the book of Enoch, then I noticed what Jesus seemed to say about it. It says it's teachings for the final generation and that must not be me because I am struggling to get through book one of three : ) However, many are rediscovering it, almost as if we are most defiantly marching to greater understanding on things that are yet to come. Remember also, Revelation didn't come last, when you read do not add to this message, it means the message of Revelation, there was no New Testament Bible at the time. And when Jesus said, "my sheep hear my voice" he meant it. We are to check what we hear to scripture, but the Word of the lord still speaks and one day his Spirit will be poured out on ALL flesh and prophecy will, well, read Joel 2! Most of the prophecy written in scripture is still coming about. The Word of God is very much alive.

Excellent videos from you always loved it
Thank you for another interesting video!
Shalom my friend, and thank you for sharing.
Oren, I can simply say for the video - Toda raba leha. Happy Hanukkah to you and your family. God bless you.

Hanukkah sameach Oren and thanks for another wonderful video!!
Great… Chag samechac … Great video lovely to see how Chanacah is celebrated.
A great video! Beautiful! Shalom!
Thank you very much! I hope to see you soon!
