Good actors can only do so much for a garbage script.
I remember as a kid I saw the poster and thought it would be a lesser version of that space mountain Disney movie I think the Rock was in. But like with gimmicky aliens and cowboys. It felt try hard to me as a 9/10 yr old.
It's called Race to Witch Mountain I looked it up. Yeah, Dwayne the rock is in it. Alien movie. I remember the posters looking super similar but after I googled it I don't know why I thought that. They don't really look all that similar. They're just blue and the characters are arranged into a triangle. But in RTWM they're just heads and in CvsA is bodies. The vibe was similar I guess.

tbh his own editing is by far the best... its simple, to the point and not overloaded with images, soundeffects and other stuff. 3min into the movie and i had to stop because after nearly every sentence there is a graphic, funny sound or something else. I really love dylan and his videos, but not this "newish" editing style.

@@jimgallager4790 Exactly. The beer and a movie segments always take him a long time to complete as well since he basically creates everything from scratch. So much work gets put into it. I went to film school as well (although I went to a large university that has not closed down, lol), and I personally love his editing style in all of his videos. I appreciate his attention to detail, his creativity, and the amount of work he puts into all of his videos. Very well done, and it's part of why he's my favorite UA-camr!

The thing about the gold has an even weirder angle to it than just a weirdly primitive alien economy:
If you have mastered interstellar space flight then earth where gold is merely a trace metal is probably one of the least obvious choices for mining - space has plenty of places where it is way easier accessible in much greater abundance, and with less energy and effort required. Coming to earth for gold is essencially like coming to the sahara desert in search of surface water.

On the dark tower movie, when you said "these people probably hated this movie more than i do", you hit the nail on the head. As a huge fan of the dark tower books, me and 3 friends (also fans of the books) watched this movie in the theater. After the movie, we all walked out and didn't even say anything for about 10 minutes. We were just shocked how they could possibly do this so bad.
No...that's sounds so disappointing. Are the books good? I'm tempted to read them
@@jtm881 I loved the books, but it really depends on what genre you like. It's a long story. I would recommend just reading the first one, and see if it peaks your interest. The books are filled with nods to other King books, since the dark tower series is the pillar in the centre of all his books.
Imho the first 4-5 books are incredible, but some of the later ones fall a bit flat. Still great reads, but just kind of a tempo change.
It's hard to explain. But i would say if you're into reading fantasy, you should def. give it a go :)
What’re the bigger problems of the movie as an adaptation?
The biggest problem is they tried to put too much material in 90 minutes. The dark tower series is 4250 pages long. That's a thousand pages more than the harry potter series. Not even including all of Kings other work, that is referenced in this series. You can't cram that into one movie. Imagine if there was only one harry potter movie, with all the books squished in there.
My second biggest issue was that they portrayed Roland as this "giving up" type. And Jake had to get him back on track. Not how it went at all. Roland lives and breathes for the destruction of the tower. There is no stopping him. And he would sacrifice anyone or anything in it's path. Trying really hard to write this without spoilers for the would be readers, so i'll leave it at that.
But yeah, this was a clusterfuck.

Sadly Taylor Kitsch wasn't just in 1 box office bomb, not just 2, no the man was the LEAD in 3 box office bombs that release IN THE SAME YEAR. John Carter, Battleship, and Savages. They each released 2 months apart from each other. The kid was nuclear after that. He was cast in Lone Survivor prior to the release of the the 3 bombs. But he's only played supporting roles since in movies.
Of his 14 movies he's been a lead/supporting character in only 2 would be considered successful. Lone Survivor and John Tucker Must Die.
I think he, as an actor, just works better in longer format productions like TV shows.
Finding out half way through the movie that 007 stole from himself is probably one of the best plot twists of all time
The combination of cow boys and aliens can make sense because even though the styles are very different The main concept of exploring and surviving in the unknown is the same. firefly is an example of that working really well.

I remember seeing Battleship in theaters when it came out, and absolutely *loving* it. But I remember being confused because the plot was borderline non-existent, but it was just so much fun to watch. Pure spectacle. Now I want to rewatch it as an adult with an adult brain

I personally LOVED Battleship. It ranks right up there with Pacific Rim as a super cool dumb movie that I can't help but love. Hot main character, monsters, giant robot machines, and lots of explosions. SO dumb...but a great watch.

No lie, I did a cosplay of Cowboys and Aliens for a highschool costume day. Even cut and burned a metal mug so I could make the wrist thing, which absolutely eviscerated my wrist. As you'd guess, no one knew who the costume was lol

Battleship is one of my favorite movies, its a great scifi action flick you can just turn your brain off for a while and enjoy. Plus I love that they had actual veterans involved, the scene where the vets show up to help ready the battleship gives me goosebumps every time. I can see how the movie wouldn't be to everyones tastes, but I really think some just don't give it the chance it deserves, but to each their own I suppose!
