Maaan I have the same subaru but with everything stock and we brought it up to Cinammon Pass in Colorado without having to take away 1 bar of gas. Such a great vehicle!
Looks like an awesome trip when with a group of other very capable 4 wheel drive vehicles. I wanted to go here with my 2015 Subaru forester xt... But wasn't trying to get stuck with no phone signal. Plus being so close to the border it had me concerned.
Great video. I just got a 2013 forester recently. I drove a 03 tacoma but had to let it go. So nice to know the forester can tackle some trails with a 2" lift and tires.
We spent a week in Big Bend in October. We have a '02 Rodeo 4x4 5 speed w/ 3" lift and 33s. A Hyundai Palisade AWD was in our group and they managed Black Gap road surprisingly well. Others were in Yotas or Jeeps. The local wood we bought in Terlingua was damn difficult to burn, but we managed. Fun trip overall.
I have those falkens on my crosstrek and they are surprisingly good in mud too. Uphill climb on a atv trail with all the mud from fresh snowmelt and not a problem.
That looks like a ton of fun, I have a 2016 Forester but no X mode looking back I wish I would’ve gone for that before purchasing. Impressive video. Why can’t I find any vids with crvs and rav4s on these off road trails??
Hey there brother! Great video and I’ve been watching your channel for about a year now and I’m also from Texas I’m actually from San Antonio and I’ve been to Big Bend National Park but never been gone on those type of trails because I’ve always gone by myself and for being a green horn myself I would like to go with a group that has experience and if I get stuck the group can put me out 😁 I would like to meet up with guys one of these days and go on a trial ride if possible! This is Big Boy Frank from Texas peace out ✌️
Awesome vid mate. I’ve got a 2020 Foz Sport 2” Ironman and Toyo OC III’s still on the 18 inch wheel 225 60 18. They are not the 10 ply LT’s that all the rangers recommend. Also have a full size spare (plug kit and pump too). Are these Toyo’s strong enough for the sharp rocks at 20-23 psi? Thanks!
A year ago I volunteered during a massive forest fire that happened near my city, I took my Forester there, it was about a 3 hour drive into the woods to reach the camp site of the firefighters and volunteers. Trails were not tough but it was mostly loose gravel, steep hills and the ocassional rocky section, my forester took it like a champ. Some 4x4 tacomas were having a rough time climbing up some of those hills.
Great video!! I am considering Forester at the moment and loved your detailed video!! I was wondering how much horsepower your subaru has? Since with XT Forester discontinued in 2018, all trims are 182 hp now!
15:20 and that right there is the difference in AWD and 4WD. In a situation like that an AWD power will always go to axle with least resistance. There didn’t look to be much articulation there either.
That's not true at all. There are a million types of awd. Good systems can lock the power split, and have front and rear lsd's. The basic Subaru awd is actually not even a good system compared to the like of SH-AWD.
@@omgcheeter true of most AWD systems but the Bronco Sport Badlands AWD system lets you manually lock front to back and rear diff side to side. I spent six days trail riding in Moab and it works extremely well!
The weak link is the CVT gear ratio, not the AWD. X Mode probably stopped the spinning wheel and sent power to the non slipping wheel but the gear aint low enough. The new “Wilderness” editions addressed that issue and should perform better in such situation. Source : trust me bro!😅

¡Muy buen video! I was at BB in late 2015 and hope to go back some time soon. I didn't do Black Gap, though, just Old Ore and River Rd. It's encouraging that the white stock 2014+ GX with running boards was able to do it. Do you happen to know what tire size they're running?
@@OverlandNomad So discontinued sway bar has no effect on X-Mode? Also did you fully remove just the rear or front as well or just one end and zip tied it up?
Not many have cvt issues. Misinformation just like Subarus are still burning oil in 2021. Take car of the car with recommended services and you won’t have any issues
I have a 15' forester premium with no X-mode. Do you think a tire upgrade would of done the job? Wondering because I really want to overland but don't want another vehicle or payment. Thanks.
@@4stroke-r6 for the type of trail you see in the video, clearance was essential but if you’re not gonna be going through small obstacles then you’re good 👍🏼
I'm an off road newbie. I have a 2017 OB. Do you think standard tires would work for any of these trails? Also, have you ever tried River Road trail in BBNP?
Yes I’ve done River Road. I think you should be fine on stock tires, traction wise, but the rocks out there eat up street tires so make sure you have a spare if you do it. I’ve seen my friend get a flat and my friends and I helped a lady in a Crosstrek change her flat tire.
observation: What is it with Subaru owners? Thinking it is an H1 Hummer or UNIMOG. Always posting lame-a$$ videos of how tough it is . . crossing 3” water or not-really challenging-proves-nothing-off-road groomed trails. Or worse “we got 3” snow”. “Gotta make a Subaru video!” I’ve noticed Subaru owners seem to be the first to stock up groceries if the weatherman calls for 3” snow. Which is good really cause the rest of us don’t have to see them for 3-4 days hunkered in. Or stuck in a snow bank like any other passenger car . . because that’s all they really are. Same ground clearance and 4WD drive like hundreds of other common cars. I think the next time I see a shopping cart with a 40ct toilet paper I’ll ask if they drive a Subaru and if bad weather is predicted.
It’s always amusing reading this level of offense towards something that literally has no effect towards the offended. Lol pretty intense. You may have forgotten about this comment, but I’m here to remind you how insane you sound 😂

That Subaru performed great and the gas savings are pretty cool too! 🎥🎬👍🏽
Forget that, I want a GX🥸
Color me impressed with the Forrester. Nice job on all the mixed terrain. Also nice to see a test of those Falken's. Nice vid!

My Toro AWD mower will take that trail like walking in the clouds. Just kidding. Great video Raza. Echale ganas.
Cool video! Awesome spotter.
Nice work. I was thinking about replacing my old SG Foz with a ute but you've convinced me that an SJ is what I need.

Amazing video!!! Thanks for sharing it!! We had an amazing time hanging out! Looking forward to next adventure 😎
