As a safety note please don't use that winch in a recovery situation on your Outback. The minimum weight of a 2015 Outback, according to the internet, is 3,593 lbs. With the extra stuff and a driver it's probably around 4,000 - 4,100 lbs. In a recovery situation where your Outback is stuck to the point of needing to winch out, you would be exceeding the maximum rating of the winch or winch cable. The winch is acting against the weight of the vehicle AND the extra forces caused by whatever has gotten the Outback stuck. Which is why it is highly recommended to select a winch that is rated at 1.5 times the loaded vehicle weight. In this case a winch rated for 8,000 lbs would be sufficient. Please stay safe out there, and make sure to lift your hood when you use your current winch, in case the cable snaps it'll recoil against the underside of the hood and not your windshield.

This is a great overview and a big help to me!! I really wanted an FJ cruiser but unfortunately my credit score and finances at the time didn’t allow it. Being stuck with my 2015 outback limited for some time now, i’ve been thinking about doing something with it. not quite as extensive but getting into a setup that’ll still take me places, even if they aren’t quite as remote as i’d like. Tested mine out stock yesterday around some lighter trails i used to take my truck around. Was easy for my truck, and i can honestly say the same for my outback. had to take it a bit slower and pick the lines a little differently but overall had zero issues. that was also with all season tires. waiting for adventure is no longer an option for me. building and equipping what i have will be an interesting challenge but well worth it. and hopefully that FJ cruiser still comes soon.

Did i miss it? Mpg on road? Miles on a tank on road or on trip? Once you do these mods do you maintain the mileage and comfort advantages over the truck/4runner platforms? I would love to see this done to the new rav4
The stock ride does take a hit, but it's negligible if you're comparing to a vehicle like a truck. It's like comparing apples to oranges. MPG's are still better than a 4Runner or a Jeep, for example. I'm still getting 22-24 on the highway and 18-20 on the street. That's better than a stock truck of any kind. If you search Instagram, you'll see some of the new RAV4's that have been built. They're really nice. :)
