    I read over at headfi that these are a DT990 32ohm in a new housing. A guy contacted beyerdynamic and that is what they told him anyway. Here is what I just read at beyer website. Translated from German.
    "How does the TYGR 300 R differ from the DT 880 PRO and DT 990 PRO?
    September 11, 2019 1:29 PM
    The DT 880 PRO has a very linear frequency response, the DT 990 PRO, on the other hand, a slightly more pronounced bass and correspondingly more present highs for a pleasant balance. Both are designed primarily for studio applications.
    The TYGR 300 R focuses on gaming based on the frequency response of the DT 990 PRO. A powerful bass and detailed emphasized highs go very well with gaming. However, the sound design was further optimized for gaming based on the DT 990 PRO, sometimes by using a special acoustic fleece."

  • @dasninjastix

    It's a very fun headphone to listen to and quite comfortable. I think the build quality is very good at its price point. I was not thrilled about the attached cable for the $300 dollar bundle but for the $200 headphone-only asking price.. it's acceptable. Especially given the length of the cable and the fact it's jank free. I'm in the honeymoon phase with it right now but I love the tuning. It's nowhere near neutral or reference. It's definitely a solid V with some surprising bass extension. The depth of the bass has been the most surprising bit for me. I've paired it with an Earman Sparrow from my phone and an iFi Zen Dac from my desktop. Both sound excellent though I find I prefer low gain rather than high on the Zen Dac. This headphone is an altogether different direction from a Sennheiser imo, but it's equally lovely in being performance to price. This is probably my favorite open-back dynamic but I love a good V-tune. I'm sure you could EQ it back a bit but... why? Just get a 560s or 6XX. Get this if you want your music to thump.

    • @dasninjastix
      @dasninjastix 3 роки тому

      @@lemonsmemes5856 Yes, but I prefer the HD599s for gaming. The TYGRs are fine for gaming but I prefer either the detail from the 599 or staging from the Fidelios. For music it's not really a contest. I prefer the TYGRs to all my other dynamics. But that's more about preference than objective performance. They're comfortable, they're controlled, they're fun to listen to, and they're not fatiguing in the slightest. I don't know if it's a all-around recommendation for gaming and music. I think Sennheiser still has them beat for general utility in the price range.

    Just got my TYGR. They sound impressively open, spacious, and the soundstage is very large. Kind of like a budget T1. Separation is good with these, very good clarity and small details come through really well. The main fault I can say is they lack midrange body. Compared to a Sennheiser, the mids are thin. I think they sacrifice midrange body to give them the very spacious soundstage so its a trade off that these make given they cater to gaming where soundstage is very important.
    They're very good at this price. Also - very light in terms of weight and can be worn for long periods of time. Dynamics are also quite good. The drivers have good control and sound overall is tight and sharply defined. Overall - Excellent detailed headphones for gaming and music, very impressive soundstage, open and airy sound, but midrange is somewhat thin for certain types of music, particularly vocals.

    • @lemonsmemes5856
      @lemonsmemes5856 4 роки тому

      I have 2 questions. First, I use a closed back gaming headset, and the soundstage isn't very good so everything sounds like it's in my head. With the tygrs do the instruments sound too far away? And second, how is the imaging in gaming? Thanks!

    • @ryanguy6789
      @ryanguy6789 4 роки тому

      @@lemonsmemes5856 The soundstage is nice and large and the imaging is nice. Instruments don't sound too far away, but compared to a Sennheiser where soundstage is pretty intimate, the TYGR is large and open sounding. It works great for gaming and they are so light weight and comfortable, I can wear them for long sessions. They are great at $200. I love the HD58X as well, both are just exceptional headphones and are priced well.

    • @lemonsmemes5856

      @@ryanguy6789 thanks for the reply man! And by thin do you mean that on some specific tracks the vocals don't sound very loud? And does thin sometimes mean tinny?

    • @ryanguy6789
      @ryanguy6789 4 роки тому

      @@lemonsmemes5856 It's hard to exactly describe in words - it is just easier to hear after listening to many different headphones for a long time. In a Sennheiser like the HD600 or HD6XX, the vocals are very full and thick and rich sounding, with the TYGR, it's more thinner sounding due to more treble emphasis. It's more of an airy and open sound rather than a thick and rich sound. The Sennheiser series are known for the rich and exceptional mid-range. It depends on what you've heard before and your main headphones that you use. But I would recommend the TYGR's as they are excellent and sound great across the board. If you buy them from Beyerdynamic, they also have a return window on them, so there's not much to lose there in trying them out.

    You should try the 80 ohm 770s if you haven’t already. They sound quite a but different than the 250 ohm ones and I prefer them. They’re way less v-shaped. The bass is much tighter and not as present, the mids are more pronounced, and the highs are less murder. They’re my favourite headphones because they sound so good for metal. Oh and I think they changed the way they tuned them a bit because I’ve heard they used to have even more bass than the 250 ohm

    Sweet Jeebus - MMX300 are over 100AUD more expensive than the DT880-600 here. I can only assume that reflects the fact that Beyerdynamic have made a lot more over the lifetime of the latter than the newer headphone, but if the target market is gamers who occasionally listen to music, who is going to pay that premium over the Custom Game (300AUD) ?
    I'm a lot more interested in the 880 review you're clearly foaming at the mouth over, but even given the amp requirements I struggle to understand why audiophiles would buy either of the gaming headphones over a headphone which virtually every other reviewer raves about (caveats notwithstanding). Thanks for the video, but I think I'll be voting with my wallet.

Personally if you want to go to the opposite side of the spectrum I would just get some HD6XXs during the next drop and live with the 990s until then. If you need something to sample that kind of sound, I'm not even kidding, get some $30 porta pros. They're obviously not as detailed at all, but they have exactly the same character to them and they're very musical and entertaining. I genuinely like those a lot more than my $200 fidelio l1s.
