The new Veggie Tales is not high quality, it's just creepy. The rendering and textures are better, but that's no excuse for the design.

Also, both Madame Blueberry and Laura Carrot look like they're going to have mental breakdowns once they can no longer keep up the facade of everything being all right. Actually, I'd even venture to say that Laura looks like she's on drugs or something. *shudder*

Ikr? I just can't understand why Dreamworks (yes Dreamworks bought Big Idea) would come up with these designs? Not only are they better than this, but the way they write is so much better than what they've done with VeggieTales in the House is doing. Every time I see it, I feel like I'm being punished for loving these characters in the first place.
Those people at DreamWorks are too blinded and deaf, on not looking at our rants; all they cared about is money, fame, and not caring about the Nezzer fans like us.

My poor poor Veggie Tales. I grew up in a Catholic/Pentecostal household Veggie Tales was a huge part of my childhood. My first grade catechism class loves the old Veggie Tales movies I bring in better than the new series on Netflix.
I grew up with VeggieTales also. I fell in love with them, the life lessons, and the simplicity of it. Sometimes they impacted me in a powerful way and influenced me on how to behave like Christ. And now just looking at the new version makes me feel like I'm being punished.

The old VeggieTales was so good. Going to Catholic schools K-12, I remember watching VeggieTales videos, including at least twice in high school. (Yes, high schoolers will sing along to the theme song.) Just yesterday there was a clue on Jeopardy where the answer was manatee and I was tempted to belt out Barbara Manatee from Silly Songs with Larry. Gosh, I miss this show.

Zomagedon I know!! I didn’t watch the old veggie tales, but I had to watch the new one with my younger cousin and it was PAINFUL
The design doesn’t bother me. Its what they planned to do with the new design that bugs more. If it was just the design they changed that would be one thing because the old design were getting harder to animate. But because dreamworks bought it at the time, they were going to change everything that Phil and Mike worked hard for. They wanted to tell story from the bible through animations. But because dreamworks is a company that makes animation for money. So of course there going to take everything that makes Veggietales well Veggietales and it disappointing
It's not just the song. That's because animation looks good doesn't mean it's good. It's just old veggie tales found a way to be original, interesting and it was amazing. But new veggie tales just changed alot of most simple but needed things that made veggie tale into veggie tale. The new veggie tale straight up goes to garbage bin because it literally makes me throw up. And this is why I don't watch Netflix.

I LOVED Veggietales tales and I still do. I still love the silly songs, the bible stories, the satirical remakes of other greats movies/shows like Giligan's Island, Lord of the Beans, etc. Now it has been ruined! The veggitables now look like something off of Cartoon Network brought to life with CGI. It looks hideous. However, I get people who haven't watch Veggietales liking the new Veggietales better. It is definitely more modern looking. However, I have only watched the first episode but it feels like veggietales has definetly gone down hill. The Songs are terrible, the characters squeak every step they take, and the stories seem to only focus on everyday life in a small town. Songs like "the pirates who don't do anything" and "his cheeseburger" are classics and the songs for the netflix series feel like someone came up with it in less than 15 minutes. "The Toy That Saved Christmas", "Where's God when I Am Scare"d, "Madam Blue Berry", "Larry Boy and the Big Fib," and "Rad, Shack, and Benny" all unforgettable songs, messages, and worlds that I will always remember. Now it feels like quality has been sacrificed for short production time and new CGI looks
+Andrew holcombe I completely agree. Even some of the newer of the older ones kinda showed that it was going downhill, though, like the silly song from 2012's The Penniless Princess, "The BFF Song"
+Ben Dunphy Yeah, I have mixed feelings about what happened after Veggietales was sold, as some of the new episodes were kinda stupid, though some were good. I was fine with the former makeover in their looks, but this new one completely wrecks everything.

I love it all! Oh, this was such a fantastic episode--hit from every side by nostalgia, not just from Veggie Tales, but PBSKids as well. Consistent laughter and feels throughout with all the great reactions. This might be my favorite
I LOVED the old veggie tales. Some of their movies scared me though XD and their character designs kinda scared me too. But it was still better then the Netflix version. Like the intro is EVERYTHING and I used to love it.

I'm atheist, but I was raised Christian, and I used to have like 4 different VeggieTales tapes (The green ones!!) and I would watch one, rewind it, and watch it over multiple times a day. Especially the story of Esther (the Banishment to the Island of Perpetual Tickling always freaked me out though). Watching that intro sequence for the first time in a long time; awesome.

It scares me so much lol. i watched the first episode and larry is a bit dumber. it was really weird too. it doesnt start with the beginning thing either. I really wish they never went out of business. I'd rather have no more veggietales episodes than this new series.
+Christina Finger I haven't watched any of the new episodes (I don't like horror movies), but to be fair, Larry was originally portrayed as being kinda stupid (with a stereotypical lisp), for instance when crashing the boat in the Gilligan Island parody.

I don't think so, I've had several friends who liked Veggietales who aren't Christian. The show has great writing, parodies, and songs that I think can be appreciated no matter your religious affiliation. -David

I watched it a lot when I was young, and I watched the movies on Netflix all the time, even tho I'm 14 I still love em, but I think they took those movies off Netflix now because of the new veggie tales (which I dislike). They ruined my favorite show!

OAN- Veggie Tales weren't around when I was growing up; but when I did discover them (at a library) as an adult. I watched a couple. Then, I bought, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything". (For my grandchildren- yeah- that's the ticket!)
I really liked the episodes I've seen; they are apparently older ones.
Updated or "improved" stuff isn't always better.
I watched a bit of both of these at church. But mostly the more swag version the original version.
I appreciate the first-time reactions for this one. I'm also a homeschooled kid, and growing up VeggieTales was a pretty big part of my childhood. That being said, I've known about In The House for some time and have, despite first being frustrated with the change, even watched several episodes. In defense of the Netflix show, even before ITH was released the VT home videos had gradually evolved from Biblical and heavily Christian stories to more secular tales of pop singers and basic lessons of kindness that are often taught in other cartoons. Yes, every other one brought God into the mix, but they were not as obvious about their Christian roots.
I think it is so easy for those of us who grew up with Bob and Larry to immediately condemn such a radical change ("original" to ITH). After viewing several episodes, I will say that they did a better job of including God in every one (even if a brief Bible verse left to the end) than in some recent installments before the Netflix release. Therefore the individuals behind ITH should not be blamed for VeggieTale's semi-secularization; it is the nature of our increasingly post-Christian culture that has been pushing all media away from God for decades. While different in tone and setting, the new show retains some of the original VT's integrity and, while the older cartoons are substantially more faith-based, I would recommend the new show to parents with kids yearning for more after watching the original videotapes a hundred times. No, it isn't the Veggies we grew up with, but it isn't entirely Godless fluff as some assume it has been reduced to. Honestly, it's wonderful that VT is made more accessible to today's kids through a service like Netflix. ITH, while its slapstick is a bit much, is a significant step into the homes of more children (and dare I say their parents) who need God's message in their lives.
As for the cosmetic changes? I'm an artist and originally I wasn't too enamored--but there is a different charm in the new faces that was difficult to see at first since I am biased toward my childhood experience. What about the artists behind it all? Despite my misgivings, I have discovered twin sisters who work on production for ITH and have completely fallen in love not only with their style, but their testimony as practicing Christians in the TV business (elioli-art.tumblr.com). While DreamWorks may own Big Idea, they have yet to take God out of VeggieTales.
While I wholeheartedly understand the nostalgia you're coming from, I simply wanted to point out that superficial visual changes really don't ruin the show for me. :) To me it's more about the message behind the show than how it appears to our eyes.

I just graduated middle school from my K-8 Catholic school. I remember watching the OLD ones on VHS during 1st-4th grade, the new one makes me cringe and cry at the same time. I will always love VeggieTales. I'm still Catholic, although I'm not VERY religious. But I still credit VeggieTales for teaching me Catholicism during my youth
