My 6 year old watched this with me the other day. She was bored and told me, "that's not Veggie Tales." We will continue watching the old ones instead.
Olivia Rothra I'll see if my brothers react the same way
Olivia Rothra Seriously, though.
Looks like a bad UA-cam parody with strange creepy designs. Beats dorbees I guess.
The old ones are superior. That is why I am reviewing them all right now :)
*slow clap* +Olivia Rothra, you are hereby awarded with "Best Parent."
Larry was supposed to be a foil to uptight and stuffy Bob the Tomato and was a bit goofy and flighty.
He's NOT a braindead 5 year old.
Fun fact: The episodes that Phil Vischer (creator of VeggieTales) wrote were the best selling episodes ever.
Gideon Thomas exactly
The last episode he wrote was The Wonderful Wizard of Ha's :)
@@billythese_2250 No, Christian Nutrition is correct. Phil said so on his podcast.
@@ChristianNutrition I actually enjoyed that.
to answer your question at 8:46, DreamWorks Animation bought out VeggieTales and Phil Vischer has no creative say now. that's why it sucks
+Adler Davidson believe me, I know far more about this than I let on. :-P
Yeah....... You can really see the drop off point. The best of veggietales was around Jonah with rumor weed, lyle, and Esther. (Also Jonah) After dreamworks it got dumbed down, but wasn't awful, when Phil visher left everything kept going downhill. And now we are here. At the bottom of the bloody hill,
Adler Davidson DREAMWORKS
No wonder it sucks
Which makes sense because that's right before Phil lost control of it. You should check out his book "Me, myself, and Bob." In it, he tells his entire story and how he lost Big Idea. It's a great read even beyond the purely factual aspects of the company.
+Say Goodnight Kevin Okay, then I guess you DO know why there's an "Ichabeezer," too?
wait is this Teen Titans Go but with vegetables? watch around the 14 minute mark.
Just more kiddy. Less cringey more dumb.
Ooof. Right in the childhood.

WAIT WTF?!???????
Oh please, please, please do more episodes of VeggieTales In the House. You're right, the episodes are completely terrible, but this was sooo funny through your eyes, opinions, and sarcasm. Love your work. It always makes me laugh.
I review all VeggieTales episodes and even reviewed the Jonah movie with Kevin :)
My biggest issue with the series is how they basically made Larry into a dumb child. Like in the original he's a little simpleminded but he's not a complete idiot, he's a grown man with a job and his own finances.
Old Veggie Tales was the ONLY good Christian show I've ever seen in my life. Fun, entertaining, great songs, good messages, included religion without being preachy (so kids of other religions/no religion could still enjoy), loveable characters, memorable and relatable stories, animation ahead of its time...and then it got bought out and turned into crap. I'm an atheist but I'm completely heartbroken over the loss of this great show. I'm in my 20's and I sing Silly Songs to this day.
Same. I also liked 321 Penguins and I still do.
AND PURE ADULT HUMOR
Larra carrot: look a dog
Kevin: no it's not that's a pea
Me: no it's not that's an olive
Dreamworks: Mr nezzer is a racist character. we need to revamp him. It's offensive.
Also DreamWorks: let's make a grape a puppy slave in the pilot episode
Why would DreamWorks think Mr. Nezzer was racist?
Dan Williams the inspiration for mr. nezzer’s voice was oogie boogie from nightmare before christmas, and that voice actor was black, which led dreamworks to interpret his character as black too. they have a policy against white actors voicing black characters, so they revamped him
The vegetables aren't white. They're all vegetables of color.
I thought it was a pup-pea at the end of the leash
@@curleyqreviews9793 missed oppurtunity.
For this
THEY DROPPED MADAME BLUEBERRYS ACCENT
Oh no!! Netflix, How could you ruin Madame Blueberry
VeggieTales in the house ruined my childhood. They no longer make the original VeggieTales. My life... My childhood... All gone.
#notmyveggietales
This is straight up teen titans go: this time it's vegetables
This also gives me Kamp Koral vibes but that came after
No thanks, Big Idea. I don't really want to explore the Deep Lore of Veggietales.
Veggie tales was the show of my childhood, and I still really enjoy it now. ( I am not above admitting that I've rocked out to pizza angel, and the cheeseburger song more than once in my teenage life) But this new veggie tales just feels like a halfhearted attempt to continue a show that previously had a lot of thought and work put into it. Kevin I always enjoy your reviews and videos. This topic is very "triggering" for me though...
Abigail Hoke THEY KILL QWERTY IS ANOTHER EPISODE
Old school VeggieTales is awesome :) Kevin and I did a review of Jonah.
Christian Nutrition I know I watch your channel
The Geek Wave I was telling Abigail :)
Christian Nutrition, The Geek Wave girls, girls your both pretty..😉 I just briefly checked out your channel Christian nutrition, and I like what you're doing! Keep it up!
The designs: terrifying. The animation: mediocre. The morals: basic common sense stuff shoved in your face every three minutes.
Ugh. The most that can be said is it's not as bad as it could be, it's a step above Blues Clues, it's not quite purely babyish. Still, that's a pretty sad bar compared to what they had to work with.
I can't help thinking of Petunia's hair in the original and how they always have it in a braid because otherwise it's hard to animate well. Here they just let hair down and let it look like it's a blob of play dough. *sigh*
Guppy Friends Forever! GFF! I need to sing that to my sister.
y’all being so mean go veggietales in the house,
It's sad because two of my favorite concept artists, Eli and Oli Ceballos, worked on this show. Their skills are waaaaaay too good for this. Lol I recommend you check them out. Their art is gorgeous.
***** I just love them for their personal work. That stuff is frickin stunning.
Really?! I love there stuff, such a shame to be wasted here
Same with Doug TenNapel, who was clearly wasted on this project.
@@coreylineberry8557 Kinda funny: I ended up clicking on this after seeing Kevin in a short video Doug posted on Twitter, where Kevin is sitting between Doug and Ethan Nicolle, who also worked on this series. Listening to podcasts with Doug and Ethan, it sounds like this was a very unpleasant series to work on.
"Free? Do I have that much in my piggy bank?"
Wow he's almost as bad at math as me
I was laughing so hard I almost died. Especially the part about the ‘world that never ends’. I hadn’t thought about that...😭😂
MR CORPORATED??
UNCLE!!?
By the way, you want to know why Veggietales was a top-notch children's show, let alone a good Christian children's show? NO SLAPSTICK. THERE WERE NO MAJOR GOOFS, NO "WAH-WAH" MUSIC, NOTHING. JUST INTELLIGENT JOKES AND SCENARIOS. Heck, there were even a few really good reference jokes for the adults. Even as an adult, I still have immense respect for Veggietales. Sucks to know that it went back to being every kid's show ever.
There was slapstick, but not much. Some of the best cartoons like looney tunes and animaniacs used lots of slapstick, but the star was the clever humor often conveyed through dialogue.
It's scary that Kevin sounds exactly like Bob and Larry
I saw like 4 minutes of that stupid show a while ago and shut it off. IT IS SO BAD!!!!!!!!! #Bringbacktherealveggietales
The Max Show I ATE THEM MWAHAHAHA
The Geek Wave Thank you!! You did us all a huge favor!!!
It was horrible! The Geek Wave, They probably tasted gross
For Now it was so gross I had to drink ACV to refresh me
Mmm refreshing!
i saw a commercial for the show on tv once, and i legit screamed when i saw those horrendous designs
My face is stuck in a horrified expression now. I feel like I need to go watch some Lyle the Kindly Viking to cleanse my soul.
I literally could not get through half the first episode of "In the House" before my eyes and ears and everything else threatened to barf. Netflix took the best show on the planet and ran it through a garbage disposal.
Goodnight, Kevin.
Goodnight Kevin
Ganulous Goodnight, Ganulous
Sweet Dreams?
I guess this is my favorite part now
#IstandWithIan
I'm so disappointed, there's not a single connection to Corey In The House. What a ripoff!
Corey in the House is the best anime.
DANGIT!!! Lol
Omygosh, yes
Isn't it great when something you enjoyed got a sequel that requires an autopsy?
Pa Grape has always reminded me of Mr.Whittaker, too
I just watched my childhood crumble before my eyes.
Ok... so n the old series, Larry and Petunia were BF and GF [more or less]... and now while Petunia retains her intellect and maturity... Larry is dumber than salt with the maturity of Lenny Carrot
TorridPrime217 I guess that's what disappointed me most about VT in the house. I really liked Petunia and Larry as a sort of couple, because Larry could be his lovable klutz self and Petunia would still think he's great. Now it would be really weird for them to be a couple.
I was just talking to my wife about this. Petunia seems like Larry's mom here and yet she has been his wife on multiple occasions in the past. You can see this especially in my review of Moe and the Big Exit.
Weird huh? I loved Petunia and Larry....
T.K Wilson Yeah, it is very weird to see the roles shift like that. I have only seen a handful of VT in the House episodes so I cannot comment if this changes past season 1.
Yeah... Larry's age has always been pretty ambiguous, but it is weird to ship them now. It's hard to continue shipping Bob and Madame Blueberry, too.
do moms night out!!!
Dan Power nah it's too good
Yup.
Dan Power I want him to do that movie too. I actually Tweeted him a while ago asking him to do it.
Something decent could be a nice change.
We like that movie 😊
So sick! I remember when I first saw the new animation, I knew it was going to be bad. But then I saw the opening song...
One word: HORRENDOUS!!!!
I know this is 2 years after the fact, but pa grape's redesign is the one I have the least issue with. He's also my fave character, alongside Archibald, of course.
I remember first seeing the new designs and I thought it was a prank. The eyebrows and irises really sell the "insanely creepy" aspect.
Apparently they did the same thing Sega did to Knuckles for Sonic Boom, but to Larry.
"Let's buy them all!"
"And train them to fight!"
For this episode, the role of Larry the Cucumber will be played by Michael Vick...
Part of the problem is that both reboots are specifically targeted as preschool series (evidently meaning they were written by them as well). The original had a wider target audience and actually talented writers.
Laura: Oh I'm such a lucky ducky
Your not a duck Laura your a carrot
Laura: *hold my beer*
I'm loving all these movienights! One of my favorite things to look forward to. Keep up the good work bro.
John David Allison it's better than messy mondays
The Geek Wave Of course it is. I'm Joel's cousin btw
What made the original show good was how subtle it was. It didn't repeat the message over and over and over (well, most of the time) nor did it have over-the-top cartoony animation and sound effects. And the songs are just awesome in the original show. I love The Bunny Song, Larry's Silly Songs, and, my ALL TIME FAV, The Cheeseburger Song.
I've been too unwilling to check it out... this is the only encounter I will have... thank you for putting yourself through this for us though!
5:17 did we just witness peas lose their lives to a lobster?
MAKE VEGGIETALES GREAT AGAIN.
*feels my heart getting ripped out of my chest and stomped on by this VeggieTales reboot*
I also watched VeggieTales as a kid (I'm a little younger than Kevin though, teehee) and didn't know this crap existed till last year. I almost cried when I saw how they wrecked the show. 😥 I feel your pain, Kevin.
5:38 that's an olive, not a pea
It’s turned into generic cartoon show #374 but there’s a lesson in there that’s hiding in the shadows, yet once you find it, it makes you blind with how obvious it is.
Ok so I just wanna talk about the “Noah’s Ark” episode, I actually kinda liked it, if they just used the better animation and better theme song it would feel like a normal VeggieTales episode to me. Also I just really liked the “My Golden Egg” silly song
Same here! The writing is true era VeggieTales, instead of focusing on Veggietales in the House, I would be cool with the episode existing.
Four videos in two weeks? What have we done to deserve such bliss? 😄
"Pa grape will know what to do he's vegetable Mr. Whitaker"
As To Mr. Whitaker: If there were only a Savior who brought back people from the dead.
Doug Puthoff Imo they really should have killed off characters as the actors passed away. The first time Whit's actor died, they very cleverly sent the character to the Middle East, until an actor whose voice was nearly identical was found. But when the actor who played Tom died, it was a perfect opportunity to have some heavy episodes about death, and the same with Whit; but nooooo, they just found a new, wildly different actor, didn't even acknowledge the differences, and the writing has honestly gone downhill.
I have opinions.
I agree. Also the newest Mr Whitaker is kind weak and lame and all these great characters just disappear. It has gone downhill.
Oh gosh this show hurts me. It's so immature. Larry is idiotic. The designs are creepy. The stories are immature and dumb. The cleverness of some of the old jokes like "over done literary adaptations camp" (still my favorite joke) is replaced with jokes on,y funny to really young kids.
Oh gosh the songs are bad now too. I miss yodeling veterinarian of the alps.
Can I complain more? Later on Bob is dumbed down a ton too. No more of the snarky logical one.
Jkop What gets me (aside from everything you said, and the fact that the animation is barely up to the standards of '00s Veggie Tales, and the complete flanderization of literally every character) is the fact that anyone who had any working knowledge of the original show would know that Junior and Laura are best friends. JUNIOR. Where is Junior??? Why Larry? What? What????
The designs are cool!
When I have kids, I'll do everything in my power to never let them know VeggieTales: In The House exists.
I couldn't get through the first episode without puking once.
Dude I absolutely love your stuff. Can't wait for your channel to super blow up! Keep it up dude :)
I honestly haven't seen this show besides that song Adler sang. Great review as usual, Kevin. You da man
Low Budget he's my favorite
Low Budget, what! You've never seen it! Go watch it now except the bad ones!
For Now I mean I've seen the original Veggie Tales, but not In The House. Imo, they totally ruined my childhood XD
Oh my goodness 😹
Your Bob impression is perfect
YOU WERE SO DISORIENTED YOU CALLED IT A TROMBONE INSTEAD OF A TUBA
10:24 you know that the creators don't care when you can actually hear the audio peaking because they had to edit Laura's voice so high... it makes my ears throb when I hear that editing error
Wow. I'm so sad to see such a great show take such a dive. But thanks for reviewing it, Kevin! You do a great job, as always!
Why did Mr nezzer sound like the soldier from team fortress 2 !?!?
1. The “Mr. Nezzer” in In The House/In The City isn’t actually Mr. Nezzer. His name is Ichabeezer.
2. Now that you mention it, I can’t unhear it
you didn't mention that Mr. nezzer was replaced Ichabeezer :/
Voice actor replaced as well and character was replaced with an old stubborn pice of wood with a stick up its butt. A piece of wood with another piece of wood stuck inside it........ Don't think about it too hard.ll.l
That was Dreamworks' fault. Dreamworks banned Mr. Nezzer because he's "a racist stereotype."
Eternity in Our Hearts Wait, for real?
+elizabethashley42 yup. That is actually true. Well mostly. He needed to be played by the same ethnicity that he sounded like. Phil visher is not black so.....l
Wait, Mr. Nezzer was black? But he's a zucchini? And what did DreamWorks have to do with it? I'm so confused. :P
If Larry is a child, then the story of Joseph becomes very disturbing.
Questions:
1. Why is Larry so stupid?
2. What did they do to Laura, Petunia, and Mr. Nezzer’s voices?
3. WHY DOES PA GRAPE HAVE EYES???!?!!?!!!?!!!!!?!
1. "New Interpretation?"
2. Changed voice actors, ones that're actually well known
3. Design overhaul.
You nailed this Kevin!! Great job!!!
Kevin congrats you're up to 16 (k) now
1) I can't believe they turned Larry into Patrick Star
2)Tress McNielle and Rob Paulson were totally wasted
3)This concept raises far to many questions
Oh, they're making a VeggieTales in the City series in 2017... I had many ideas for VeggieTales episodes as a kid, even as far as a LarryBoy movie where all the villains join forces, even from the cartoon series, to destroy Bumblyburg.
VeggieTales In The City? That is madness! Where did you hear that from?
+Christian Nutrition Well, in a video where someone opened their puppies and guppies DVD, I unfortunately didn't find any teasers, but I searched it and I found the image: vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/logopedia/images/e/ed/VeggieTales_in_the_City_2017_Poster.PNG/revision/latest?cb=20161024003506
Nintega Dario That is weird. I have the Puppies and Guppies DVD and it did not have that insert. I am reviewing VT In The House in January and I saw nothing on the DVD indicating this show either.
+Christian Nutrition That's odd, when did you get the DVD?
Nintega Dario When it first came out. VT In The City is rumoured to be in Feb 2017. Which means it is the 5th season of In The House.
Yay! I was hoping you would do a video of this show :D
9:45 also wasn't Larry married...and a father...in It's A Meaningful Life??
I'm confused.
Kevster have you reviewed Superbook? I think you would have some fun with it. Also I would be interested in your thoughts on Tokyo Godfathers. Although it is not a Christian film it tackles Christian elements. The entire theme of the movie is in fact redemption. It is one of the best Christmas anime movies ever.
I hope they still do normal veggietales with the new animation like the new Noah's Ark one
Fun fact the guy who did Earthworm jim producer this show
wow. just wow. i have no words to describe my feelings of disappointment and rage. lets just say now i know why cats are suddenly afraid of cucumbers.
Kevin, I agree w a lot of what you saying. The 1st episode is HORRID. But my niece became obsessed w this show so I ended up watching a lot of eps. When you says "the creators didn't seem to know what they were doing" you are very correct. as the show continues it finds its humor and figures out whether Larry is an idiot or not. He's more reminiscent of old SpongeBob; childish but not stupid. The plots of each ep get a lot better and it gets a lot funnier to. W nods to other pop culture stuff to make the adults laugh. So I would say skip forward some and give it another try :)
Holy cow is that the actress for Dot as Laura?
David Umstattd yep.
Kevin: "That's not a dog, that's a pea!"
Me: "It's a dog pea!"
Awesome video Kevin! I feel a little sad though. VeggieTales has been a huge part of my childhood, so sad to see it go down hill... Would you agree with me if I said their efforts are "fruitless" ;P
You know what the most outrageous thing about all this is? PA GRAPE HAS EYES!!!!!! WHY?????????????????????
Did anyone notice that Laura drew a real puppy but Ichabeezer is walking a olive?!?! I'm so confused. Do they see the olive as a puppy?? Does that mean they see each other as human??????? I"M SO CONFUSED
That"s not veggie tales.
One of the Warner Bothers and the Warner Sister are behind this! Yakko first kidnapped Mr. Nezzer, and replaced him with Yakko himself in disguise! And Dot kidnapped Laura, Junior, Petunia, and Madame Blueberry and replaced them with HERSELF in disguise!
Ok, but am I the only one who noticed the mustached carrot hopping BACKWARD in the background at 4:03?
You made no aversion to the fact that Mr. Nezzer was completely ditched, or the his replacement (along with a few other characters) are voiced by Rob Paulsen.
Kevin, that was the most amazing analysis of why the old Veggie Tales worked and why this new one is so gosh awful! Thank you!
Kevin didn't even get to hear Junior's voice.......
We need to protest at Dreamworks.
Then: Laura x Junior
Now: Laura x Larry
Ichabeezer's dog is an olive not a pea
I have quite a lot of VeggieTales to catch up on. Adventures in Odyssey, moreso.
Minority opinion on a five year old video review alert: I enjoyed In the House and its sequel series, In the City. I was one of 3 Christians who never watched the original Veggie Tales as a kid. My first time watching a Veggie Tales was Lord of the Beans as an adult and it had memorable songs and some very funny moments, but the animation was pretty rough. Years later, my daughter and I watched the Netflix series together and we had quite a few laughs. I think the character designs are much improved and more lively. This Guppy episode is definitely not the strongest, but there are some catchy songs and fun characters introduced later on. My daughter and I love the Motato villain character and his voice. We have since watched the older VT movies and while they are a good time, they haven't aged well visually speaking. I think there is a lot riding on nostalgia here, speaking as a relative newcomer to this property.
The Veggietales Videos From 1993-October 2014 Were Way Better Than Veggiefails in The Trash
Petition to track down the guys who constructed this monstrosity and just do whatever torturous thing comes to mind at the time to them
Please review Hacksaw Ridge please Kevin
Please DON'T!
I like watching programs with subtitles. No need to worry!
I personally think the real reason why Veggietales in the house/city is so hated is the premise compared to og, and hows its executed. Like, ignoring the re-design discourse, the idea of Veggietales was that it was a show being hosted, and everyone was a group pf friend's just acting a character. Veggietales in the house goes for a day in the life scenario outside the show, which isn't bad, but they artificially insert a bunch of antics to compensate for revoking the show and trying to fill in for whackiness, rather than sticking to something more 'directly relatable' by having a bend of mundane situations and comedy. Characters like Ichabeezer, Beau, and Motato, the way they're portrayed, would be fine in the og as their antics would be chalked up to them acting but in the show they come from, its somewhat jarring due to how they serve the premise. Now, characters like these can work with better writing, Ichabezzer and Beau being the best examples, but the way the show is written doesn't do them any real justice, at least in my opinion.
...they looks like the cars from Pixar's Cars. Isn't that a mildly bad sign?
No, it's worse. Way worse.
And now cars is weird.....
Trygve Plaustrum But in Veggie form
