A lot of them, perhaps a majority of the bishops are in denial. This is typical of all rulers who are inclined to cut their losses until the wolf is literally at their door. How they could watch mass attendence dwindle from 70% to less than half than number and not see this as example of disaster astounds me.

Just last week, I got baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Church and this issue never stopped me from converting to the Church. And people often ask me ‘why not?’. Well, the answer is always: ‘It’s like comparing apples and oranges’. Faith is not defined by those who are with authority in the Church. The reputation may have been damaged but definitely not the faith. Converting to the Church is something I do not and will not regret in my life.
I’m not sure who said this but I think it’s very accurate: ‘Strong Protestants become Catholics and weak Catholics become Protestants.’

My faith did not waver because there is a difference between Catholicism as a faith and the Catholic Church as an institution. Just because I follow and observe the Catholic faith doesn't mean I automatically condone everything that every member of the institution of the Church does. It would be the same as saying I condone what the nazis did just because I'm German. I thank God for the lovely priests I have in my life and the examples of the Saints I can follow. However, I'm also extremely disappointed about how the Church handles these cases and I am outraged that these things continue to happen. They are NOT Catholic, they are NOT Biblical, they are NOT what Jesus would want and they are simply an outrage.

If those church leaders who did horrible things truly had the Holy Spirit dwelling in them to begin with, they wouldn't have done what they did. And no it's not a single mistake from being tempted or something, that's not the big problem. The bigger problem is choosing to live in sin without any conviction whatsoever. This is why it says in the bible to test each spirit, if they truly have the fruits of the Holy Spirit in them. Now we know they didn't. But it's not too late to repent and truly surrender to Jesus and make Him their Lord and Saviour. I pray by God's grace they really turn around.

But it’s never gonna stop until Christ comes back and destroys the catholic organization and your eyes will never shut because you’re going to be trying to figure out how they deceived so badly! Most likely in purgatory but hopefully not because then it’s definitely to late for you because purgatory is hell. But Christ isn’t going to have mercy on you unless you leave before this happens otherwise all the plagues written in the scriptures will be added to you! You guys have changed lots of things in the scriptures and that alone is enough to send to hell for all eternity. I can prove this to you by just using your own bibles. The perpetrators must never be put in authority ever again, yet we , as Christians are obligated to forgive them someday. Any kind of sexual predator needs to be marked and watched, never being allowed access to potential victims. The caveat being that we should never support a witch hunt: let's learn a lesson from our Protestant brothers and sisters. Peace be with you all.

A few things i been thinking about recently:
    1. Has this always occured in the church, or is it just a 20th century phenomenon?
    2. If it is a 20th century phenomenon, then what are the causes?
    3. Why has it been an almost worldwide phenomenon, what's going on here?
    4. Was the church deliberately infiltrated by peadophiles, or did the priests become peadophiles due to their own weakness?
    5. How could people remain silent when this is one of the worst and lowest sexual crimes you could possibly commit?
    6. Does this have anything to do with homosexuals, Vatican 2, the sexual revolution, etc....?
    7. Was celibacy a cause?
    8. There have always been bad priests, but they were never tolerated, so why was it tolerated in the 20th century? Was it simply the lowering of standards due to secular culture?
    Just some thoughts.

The teachings of the faith is true they do not come from man but are Divinely Revealed by the Holy Spirit to man.
People tend to forget that the clergy are men imperfect sinners like everyone else capable of committing sin even St. Peter denied he knew Christ three times. It's the office they hold which came from Christ which is holy that doesn't nessisary mean the man that holds that office. Even Judas Iscariot was an Apostle he preached the Gospel, healed the sick and drove out demons in Christ's name but yet he betrayed Christ. That office Judas Iscariot held was no less holy than any of the other offices of the Apostles.

    Very powerful video.
What makes me very sad is the fact that we (as the society in general) stopped trusting others. I know it's hard to trust a person who has commited a crime, even if we are not the victims. But because of the scandals not only priests or teachers, but basically any person who is being friendly towards a child is regarded with suspicion. I get the thing about signs and that maybe some of the abuse could have been stopped if someone took a closer look on things. But this still terrifies me that we don't trust others anymore, that we see a hidden meaning in nearly every friendly gesture towards children (like being alone with the child in a car)...

My brain kept processing the topic whole day, so I have some (or rather MANY) more thoughts on this. I'd like to hear what other people think about my ideas (if anyone has enough patience to read all of them).
I was thinking about the trust issue. I mean, being distrustful after someone hurt you is understandable, but is teaching distrust a really good way to prevent sexual abuse of children? As I am not a victim of it, I can't say with 100% certainty, but from what I've read distrust may cause bigger problems. I mean, if a child knows that he or she can ALWAYS, no matter what, in ABSOLUTELY any case go to their mother, father, older sibling, grandparent etc. and tell them that they don't feel comfortable around some adults, that someone has done something strange to them etc., and be sure that their concerns will be heard and treated seriously, then the pedophil has smaller chance of keeping the abuse secret. I see it mostly as a matter of trust and respectful upbringing. It's something we as catholics struggle with, maybe because of traditional view on family, in which children are basically a property of their parents. What I mean is that parents want their children to be polite and extremely obedient, especially to their elders. I say that this is a catholic (but not only!) problem, because as far as I know the revolution in upbringing that gave voice to the children was generally non-religious, so many catholics (at least here in Poland) think that being respectful to your child and admitting he or she has rights is practically the same as saying "go ahead, don't respect anyone, don't believe in anything, do what you want". I'm saying all of this because I don't believe we need more distrust and control to prevent sexual abuse from happening. What I've learned from the attachment parenting sources is that what matters the most is: respecting child's boundaries (e.g. not forcing the child to kiss grandma, teaching the child that he or she can always say "stop touching me" and they should be obeyed - of course we're not talking about dire situations like when the child has to be immediately diagnosed by a doctor, but such situation should also be explained to the child), listening to the child and not assuming at once that he or she is lying (not having punishments also helps - I hear that abusers often tell the child that if they say anything to their parents, they will be punished, either because the parents will think they're lying or because the abuse is something good and the child shouldn't complain), teaching them not to have secrets with other people (it's ok if the child just don't want to tell their parents something, but they should know that they CAN tell them anything; surprises are also ok - they differ from secrets, because they are from the beginning meant to become known), not telling them that they shouldn't speak to strangers (when the child needs help and their family isn't there, it SHOULD be able to go to someone - like a policeman or some other family passing by - even if they don't know the people). I don't know - maybe that's something you also learn on the courses that were mentioned in the video. Just looking for a signs of abuse has two big flaws - firstly, it doesn't prevent the abuse, only its continuation, and secondly it makes you very suspicious, maybe even paranoic. The respectful upbringing also has a flaw in this context - it does not help children that have already been teached to always be obedient and quiet. Maybe these two methods should be connected (at least until the attachment parenting becomes widely popular).
Whoa. I hope that makes sense.
Also, thank you, Tatiana, for sharing your story. I'm quite lame in comforting people, but I know that sometimes thinking of people who wish me well helps me in my troubles, so I just want to let you know that I wish you well. (Lame as I said...)

I’m not even sure that I felt much at all - there have been so many terrible things that have been happening in the Church lately that I was too emotionally and psychologically exhausted to deal with this new one properly. At the most, I just walked around in some kind of vaguely angry daze for about a week. I have a very deep rage about everything that has been going on overall, however, which is not helped by the feeling that the bishops and the Pope have betrayed and abandoned me and all of their people. I’m not entirely sure what to do with all of this; I usually just rage-watch videos of people talking about these problems so at I can feel like I know what’s going on.

Maybe what could help all those who lost their faith is understanding that the only Perfect Priest is Jesus Christ. He is the Only One who can heal the wounds caused by these priests who have scandalized the Catholic Church. Another thing that made me keep Catholic is that we don't need to expect the holiness of priests for the Eucharist to be a valid sacrament. All we need is that this priest is connected to his Diocesan Bishop. So, let's focus in Jesus, in the Perfectness of the Eucharist. Let us focus in Our Lady who intercedes for each of Her Children who were abused. Let us remember that Our Lady is still interceding for the abusers and the abused people. Let's wait for the Heart of Mary to triumph!
May Mary, Mother of the Church intercede for all those who lost their faith! Mary Mother of the Church wrap in Your Maternal Mantle all those who need Your welcoming Love to be healed! Amen

A part of me wonders if this might do us some good in the long run. I think when the Church becomes too big, its leaders forget about humility and the true message of the Gospel. I foresee our Church becoming smaller but having people who are true to the faith. That might be better as I feel like the Catholic Church may be going through a pruning period. Time to show the rot and take it out! We, as the Catholic laity, need to stand up, pray up and become saints and save our Church ala St. Catherine, St. Francis of Assisi and other great saints.

I basically compare this to the Renaissance era were most Catholics couldn't take the hierarchy serious. If you look at literature and poetry from that time it tends to be very saucy and provocative. The most popular piece of literature being the epic poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. I got red pilled about Pope Francis and the state of the Church in 2014 going into the Synod of the family and never really turned back especially after Amoris Laetitia. I will always have my faith but I think as to what goes on in the Vatican and what comes from the Pope I don't care anymore or don't want to care anymore. I am sort of inside when it comes to the hierarchy and Catholic headlines. I liken it to having dysfunctional parents that are always drunk and will always let you down you just get used to it they're still your family you still love them but you don't expect much from them.

16:29 St Giovanni Bosco and Domenico Savio were close.
I am not saying in a sexual way, one of them is canonised by Pope Pius XI (even if it was on April 1) but like "the dynamic duo" of Catholic pastoral back then in Turin area (I think they were in Torino).
Supposing everyone back then had been on the outlook for "special focus" and "some kind of disordered relation" ... could their friendship have existed? I presume that canonisation _is_ valid.
Are you sure the kind of measures that the classes are promoting are not part of what the devil has planned through this destructive work?
Also, when _everyone_ is on the outlook for something, sometimes innocent people are accused of that something. In France or Belgium, two priests (or Vatican II clergy, their ordinations are presumably not valid) have committed suicide over being, presumably falsely accused.
Btw, considering how many Anticatholic people who are presumably reading me, I expect some will try to pour smut on Domenico Savio - but I still think it needs to be written. Shrinks are NOT our experts in moral theology and also NOT our experts even on how to protect the innocent against this, that or sundry person who would be the real guilty one.

As you mentioned it being a "no no" for an adult and a child (unrelated as parent or uncle, I presume you mean) to spend time together alone, while I was abused by school mates in another way - harrassment, but really severe - a man whom I later came to distrust on other issues actually did comfort me while he was driving me in a car. He can have contributed to saving me from getting too depressed. He did cheer me up. If I hadn't back then been responsive to adults cheering me up (even if it was a childish trait and arguably has harmed me socially later), school with those other guys would perhaps have killed me, and "perhaps" is perhaps not the right word.

      No.
But St. John Bosco arguably was spending lots of time with him.
And arguably it couldn't have happened in the climate of hysteria this crisis is promoting.
One hint about abuse NOT being the case would at least be "do they have a legitimate common interest" (in St John Bosco's and Domenico Savio's case : saving souls and sanctifying themselves).
And "inordinate amounts of time" cannot simply be determined from the amount of time. Could a common interest require it?

It is not irony that the day the PA report came out was the day on which Fr. Maximillian Kolbe gave his life in Aushwitz so that a man with a family might live. Personally I think it nothing short of a message.
I'm tired of going over this but in the last 15 years in Pa there have been three allegations of abuse/improprietry. In effect then in real terms the "scandal" ended 15 years ago. So has the church responded adequately to the needs of victims? I will say yes because the first spokesman to say something on the Stephanonpolous Sunday show said he had been offered a settlement that included a four year free ride for his children. I'm afraid this time around on the Scandal carousel is nearly all about anti catholic bigotry rather than new offenses.
Keep the faith and have some joy about it. The biggest downer on this thing is the unwillingness of the church to defend it's self. On the upside by the time your my age the church will have gotten these no shows out of it' system and gotten a whole cohort of fresh unjaded types.

There is still hope for you. Jesus Christ is your only way to heaven (John 14:6). He paid the price for your sins with his blood, on the cross at Calvary. If you believe on the LORD Jesus Christ and call upon his name with a humble, repentant, willing, and contrite heart sincerely, he will save you from the lake of fire.
10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (Romans 3:10)
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23)
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (Romans 10:9)
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18)
Get saved today, while you still can, because there might not be another tomorrow.
4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. (Revelation 18:4-5)

I actually just came back to the faith a month before the scandals. No it did not shake my faith because there is no salvation outside the church and there is no way to receive the sacraments (confession and communion especially) outside of it. This scandal has simply reaffirmed for me truths that every Catholic used to know, that there should not be homosexual priests for theirs is not a natural state of mind and thus cannot be relied on and they especially can't relate to an overwhelmingly heterosexual laity. How can a homosexual be called a "father"? It's time to stop being "nice" Catholics and simply state the truth, the world hated/hates Jesus for it, it will hate us as well who cares I don't hate gay people but they shouldn't be running our church.
I think the Catholic church is destroying itself trying to appease the modern world and it might take a couple generations of pissed off Catholics to fix it but I guess my trust in our leaders has vanished for not speaking out against it especially the pope and his involvement/knowledge in the whole thing

Determining Jesus as Messiah is something one comes to by doing their own research into the claims of Christ and prophecy he fulfilled. What I’m saying is, based on his statement, his faith in Christ is unshakable unless the Church changed its teachings on same sex relations. I don’t see what one has to do with the other and was asking for his reasoning. Hope that clarified my question.
