    3:00 Not jumping the gun at all. ; ) As soon as I double-check measurements and get my hands on some test prototypes, I'll send those to production too.
    Also, as always awesome video. Homero's board sounds amazing too! Very cool!

      Thanks Duffy! And thanks for the update on the 103 style boards. It is really awesome of you to have created these boards for people to get into this project. It's gonna be a lot of fun!

    I'm definitely building some of these in the next few weeks. Im excited to try different capsules, low and high EQs, and transformers to find out what I like

      Perfect. That's exactly what I've been doing and it's been incredibly helpful in learning what these different components actually sound like when compared in the same circuit.

    What would you say is the best 1st project for someone interested in building up to something like this?

      If you know how to solder (and unsolder) well enough, take a look at the Microphone Parts T-25 kit. It comes with everything, including a very well laid out assembly guide (which of course the ORS 87 does not). If you do not know how to solder, pick up a couple of the very simple Velleman kits on Amazon for stuff like electronic dice or coin flip and run through a few of those cheap sets to get your chops up to snuff. There is no shortcut to getting to where you can build mics like the ORS 87 without a fair bit of experience and practice. I started as someone who couldn't solder and it took me a while to where I wasn't butchering everything I tried to put together and I destroyed a few mics in the process.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Thanks Mark! I've just started learning to solder. I switched out the capsule on my Ali 103, and then recently completed the MicParts EQ circuit board upgrade for the Studio Projects C1. Happy with both so far, but I think I'm catching the DIY bug. :)

      @@narrator-timothymckean In that case, you may even want to consider one of Mic Parts' S-series kits as well, which feature a full condenser capsule rather than an electret, or maybe try both. If you can go into the ORS 87 project with a couple of solid, successful builds under your belt, you'll have a much higher chance of success. The Mic Parts C1 EQ circuit was my first mic-mod kit, too and it was the one that totally hooked me on mic DIY.

    Hi Mark I could not find the in group DYI on wiring the 9.5:1 transformer in reverse . could you p[lease send a link ?

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  15 днів тому +1

      Hi Greg, the link to how to wire the Neutrik 10/3 is here. groupdiy.com/threads/open-source-diy-mic-project-ors-87-stripped-down-u87.86814/post-1144583
      That’s only if you are using the Neutrik, which is actually 1:10, hence why you wire it backwards to get 10:1. But if you have a 9.5:1 transformer already, you wire it in the normal way.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Thank you mark, I tried an 87 version without the transformer and with the 10:1 transformer. the transformerless version sounds great the transformer version rolls off the highs more and the spectrum is blended together kinda like compression with the 10/3 transformer

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Yes I got the Neutrik I assumed it was 9.5:1 does it compare well with the UTM version?

    Is there a great economical capsule for building this from scratch with no previous parts in inventory?

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  16 днів тому +1

      Ugh. Thats a question I’ve been trying to answer for the past month. All of the cheap capsules I’ve tried, including a few generic ones I’ve pulled from donor bodies aren’t doing it for me and at best rate as decent but not great. I may have to try the TSC-2 over at JLI electronics.

    • @BoydTimothy
      @BoydTimothy 16 днів тому +1

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Roger that. I recently converted my Aurycle A460 to a U87 clone using the Arienne Audio K87 capsule, a 3U transformer, and Dany's PCB. It seems to work great ... though the bass response is pretty large and I've still gotta sort that part out, but other than that pretty pleased.

    • @BoydTimothy
      @BoydTimothy 16 днів тому +1

      But definitely following along to see how the ORS project turns out and will eventually order the HL-95 for the body. But $150-$200 for a good capsule makes the price jump up there.
