      im doing it on paper, its possible! just instead of layering colors, i'm layering values of grey. first layer = very very light grey, second = a little darker, and so on!. in the end, u just erase it all and only the ink will remain

    • @Bruno-wl2lm
      @Bruno-wl2lm 5 місяців тому

    great video! can you also go more into detail about what canvas size we should be using for tattoo designs on procreate & also what PPI/DPI we should be using ? I’m having trouble with the pixilation/quality of my designs, & I’m not really sure where I went wrong. I’d love your input, Thank you

      I find 400 plus dpi really helps with that, sometimes you may need to finish the design and merge some layers as the higher the dpi the less layers you can have and A4 is generally a good size because your body portions are generally that in size, like forearm is about a5, same with upper portion of leg, lower portion on leg, arms, chest, is all fairly close to A4

    I plan on being a tattoo artist bc I love art and want to do art for a living. I plan on being a tattoo artist and go to college at the same time for art. I know college isn’t required for tattoo artists but I’d like to have it in case tattooing doesn’t work out, if I want to get a better paying job or if tattooing doesn’t pay enough in my area.

    Love your show. Just wondering how one would get somewhat accurate of print from zooming in and out of the arm. My thinking is one would have to make a ball park guess on how big to print transfer cause the arm size is arbitrary unless you have the arm size dimensions to begin with?

    As always a great video, thanks! 🤟I ask you for one tip, please: 🙏
    The ratio between arm and drawing is perfect but the arm you have on the iPad is obviously not in 1:1 scale/ratio so, how do you PRINT the right size stencil? Do you try multiple times on the thermal printer until you get the right size? Thank you

    • @Leahweahbeah

      You could start by tracing other designs for practice! Or look at an example image for reference when you draw it. Try starting with designs that have bold outlines and less small details like traditional, cartoon/anime, etc. Really anything that could be classified as “flash”. Those styles can definitely have a lot of detail but it’s a good place to start as compared to something like realism. I also think understanding light/shading is really important..lack of shading creates less dimension and too much shading can make it look bad.
      I am mostly speaking from drawing experience..I barely just started tattooing but I took a lot of art courses and drew a lot in my free time in my teens and even did some competitions. Tracing is where I started and I went absolutely ham on the shading for a while and it made it look shitty lol and it took a year or two before I learned the way I should shade. Eventually you get muscle memory or a visual concept of what something should look like..I think there’s a big misconception that people who can draw just bang out a beautiful piece from the start without any errors. It takes a lot of practice but it’s also not impossible. I know some people who are extremely talented at drawing and they have to sketch first, draw reference lines, use reference images, trace, etc. Everything you do takes practice and use whatever references you need for as long as you need to. There’s no shame in that. I just got a tattoo the other day that is absolutely beautiful and my favorite one so far..the guy that did it had a reference image pulled up while tattooing it to reference the shading and stuff. In fact most of my tattoos the person who did them used the reference image to look at.

      I knew that's what you would say, I've watched a lot of your content and I heard you say it but I thought there was a way around it I've somehow convinced myself I couldn't draw but I have finally listened and I've officially been practising all sorts of drawing and I'm accumulating pens and pencils and rulers etc. I've realised it takes discipline and effort but I'll keep trying and perhaps one day I might get to show you some stuff and get your opinion.
      Also it's pretty cool to get a response from you.

    I really want to get into tattooing and I've watched countless hours of tutorials and even bought a machine to practice on some fake skin but I can't draw for shit. It seems like most tattoo artists have always been great at drawing and that's what makes them great tattoo artists as well. I guess it will just take a shitload of practice for me to get decent enough at drawing. Is art school helpful? Like is it helpful enough to justify the costs of attending school??

    • @Tattooing101
      @Tattooing101  2 роки тому +3

      Art School is not necessary, especially if you're learning to draw for tattooing. The only way to improve, is to keep practicing your drawings everyday. There is no shortcut to it just consistent practice and over time you'll get better as you go.

      Try tracing over stuff to start w or look at an image and try to draw it go all the way even if it fails to look like the image then try again my biggest mistake was I’d start n see it not right and start over and over and over when I should’ve completed it and tried again a lot of hours is put into this!!

      That’s how I do it! Just get tracing paper. Use it the same way they use layers on procreate. Start your sketch on the first piece of tracing paper and from there keep putting another sheet on top until you get what you want. From there you can print it out or whatever for a stencil or you can use a light pad to put it on some watercolor paper for a sheet.
