love this song!!!!! I saw Rena Faye perform at the Shawen Inn in Hebron/Mardela ? decades ago. Such a pleasant, country voice. I thought she was wonderful and seemed to be such a super nice gal! So sorry to hear she is no long with us.
such a pleasure to hear this again! I still have the 45 someplace. Rena sang with my grandfather's band for a time when I was little and she was always really nice to me.
Great to hear this song. Raised in Berlin/Ocean City area, later lived in Salisbury pryor to vaccation in VietNam LOL. Now live in Delmar, just up the street from Salisbury. And believe me, it ain't like it used to be.
+Ray Wisniewski Glad you enjoyed hearing it! I recall my preacher back then playing this tune and that's how I got to like it. I was recently up there for 8 months before coming back to NC to be with my son, and I have to say that the restaurant Delmar Pizza was my absolute favorite pizza and spaghetti place!!! There is nothing down here that compares to their pizza! Great to hear from you and many thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Take care and be blessed! :-)
30 seconds into this, on the right, the Salisbury National Bank is shown with it's glorious columns, where I worked as a teenager - now I'm 74 and can relate. Thanks for the post.
+Emi Shade So glad you enjoyed it! She was very talented indeed and a song I will always cherish. Many thanks for taking time out of your day to message me. Take care and be blessed. :-)
+Jerry Banks thanks Jerry I am here in FL and live in Snow Hill. Brought tears to my eyes born and raised Ocean City and moved to Snow Hill. Surely miss the sand in my shoes from Public Landing and sing at Spence church and watching Easter Sunrise on the Bay.
+Richard DOC Watson My pleasure and glad you enjoyed it! I have some really great friends that attend the Snow Hill Church of Christ and the preacher there is a great friend of mine as well from way back. Those folks and that place will always be special to me. I have resided in NC now for a number of years but as strange as it may sound I always miss the sub and pizza places from up there, not to even mention the seafood. Nothing down here can compare and I definitely try to get my fill when I go up there. This area down here is more of a barbecue/chicken sort of environment. Great to hear from you and thanks for taking the time to send a message! :-)
The song was written by a school teacher. Her name was Sarah Esther Peters. She happens to be Rena's sister. Rena passed away a few years ago. I don't know where her sister is. Rena was a fine singer. She had a record out back in the '60s. It was pretty good too. This is the Thanks I Get was the title. As I recall Rena won a local talent contest also.
You mention not knowing where the author of this song now is. To me, she was Aunt Esther, through marriage on the mother's side of my family. Aunt Esther has now also passed on, after spending her final years in Arizona. Thank you for posting this wonderful song and bringing back so many positive memories.
