Cheers to your purchase. If I buy this car I will be making the same upgrade.
I just did the same switch on my BRZ. Similar comments: quieter on asphalt (not much on concrete), smaller bumps are absorbed more, sticks like glue in wet, you can get mid corner rotation to rip you out of corners, it’s also a progressive tire when slipping. It’s a solid tire for day2day and autocross. And comes with 50k mile warranty!
I'm running a set of PSAS4s on my Miata RF as my year round street tires. Very happy with them so far. All seaons have come a long way. Playful and consistent street grip. It's strong enough to lean on but not so aggressive that you can't have fun on it.
I'm running Michelin X Snow tires on my GR86 and I can't believe how much quieter they are compared to the PS4 tires. Did my first winter drive on them today too and they were super confidence inspiring. Somehow I enjoy this car even more in winter.
My first winter in brz and with about a 8” dump earlier this week I was surprised how well it does. As long as there is enough ground clearance this thing seems it will do amazing in winter.
Winter tires are definitely quieter! I drove this off the dealer lot on Blizzaks and was surprised how loud the Primacys were haha. The tradeoff is worth it with some performance tires, but not with the PS4s imo - they're deafening in the GR86/BRZ!

I just put some 245/40R18's on my new WRX (after nearly spinning it leaving work the first day when the temp dropped to 37) and I think they actually have better road feel in the dry/warmth than the summer Dunlops they come with. Great idea to do this swap out and test! I find it interesting that these have slightly less grip than the "Prius tires" that everyone constantly carps about. From what I've seen of the OEM 18" wheels with regular PS 4's, those make more noise than the 17" Primacy. I'm a long ways from replacing my 17" Primacy's on my BRZ, but this looks like a good option for where I live. If you trust and follow the advice, the summer tires should not be used in the cold (regardless of snow or ice), so I find myself needing to swap on my winter whieels and Blizzaks just for that. And we have plenty of days where in the morning, it is too cold for summer tires, but by afternoon, getting a little warm for winter tires (more wear). This looks like a way to solve that issue and still have a tire that doesn't significantly degrade the fun factor.
I actually just got brand new Bridgestone potenza RE980 all seasons on my Mazda RX8. Definitely an improvement in basically measurement over my dry-rotted firestone tires lol.
Same tires I have on my Mazda 6. I absolutely love them. Prior to the Michelins, I had BF Goodrich Comp 2 A/S on it. Those were good also, but I hated the rugged look of the sidewall. Tire wear has also proven better in the Michelin so far. They are very solid in the wet, but I have not had them in the snow/ice yet. Enjoy them.
I was actually looking at this tire to replace my Primacy setup on my 2018 BRZ. I was between the All-Season or the Summer set. Living in Boston maybe the All-season are reasonable choice, good to know I don't miss.much on performance.
Even though I know I should get a winter tire because of how terrible the Michigan winters get, I’m thinking of getting these same tires for my WRX real soon
Interesting note: the Primacy is actually categorized as a summer tire, not an all-season. It’s just not an “extreme” performance summer tire. Funny that the best UHP all season is superior in every way to an an above average summer tire.
The Primacy targeted market is sedans / luxury vehicles and is no way giving performance close to the Pilot Sport family. Some Primacy tires are based on older Michelin tires so they are not quite up to par with the latest performance tire generation either.

I just put a set of these on my mk7 GTi (2 door!) and so far they've been fantastic tires. I typically don't really go the all-season route but my last few cars have only had a single set of wheels soooo lol. Owned the DWS06+ before and liked them even more because of their road manners. I'll add another set of wheels next year to the GTi and get some Conti Extremes again which I loved on my Miata. I've only put about 200 miles on these so far so I'm looking forward to how the grip and performance improves after a few more miles. 👌
Had these on a Focus ST. A+ in the wet and near-summer tire grip levels in the dry. Nice light, natural steering feel. They're dogshit in snow which was contrary to reviews I read. EDIT- the tread squirm definitely gets better after a few hundred miles. They're VERY squirmy when new (almost alarmingly so).
Drove mine through the snow all week (Calgary) and it’s shockingly good. It actually does better than a lot of other cars on the road that don’t bother with winter tires.
I wonder if the Primacy was less progressive with its break-away compared to the Pilot Sport AS4 due to it being a more eco-focused tire? Maybe the new ones are a little softer.
I've beaten the chunks off my 17" AS 3+... can' t help it, I don't use the freeway but once a week. Problem is mid 30s and raining all the time, not appropriate for the summer version I can only use from late may or early June. Need 50f min.
I tested the Dunlop sport all season for around 10K km they are good on dry and wet roads tbh never tryied on snow. You can feel its not as effective as Dunlop sportmaxx lineup ofc but its good if you dont want to bother having 2 sets of wheels

Increased width to 225 but I still lose grip on dry and cold roads. Just waiting for it to snow or rain heavily to see how they do cause the primacys could not handle very wet conditions at all.
Great video! I love your content❤Just curious, since you’ve changed the final drive, how much top speed does it sacrifice? And do you have to redo the speedometer and rev meter to match up the new final drive? Thank you!
Since the BRZ is power limited not gear limited at top speed, it should help a bit. 6th is pretty tall and this would put it at higher revs for more power in top gear. Speed is read from the wheel speed sensors so no change in speedo with the new diff. Thanks for watching!
@@TheTopher Thank you for explaining that up! That helps a lot! I’m looking forward to setting up a hks gt2 supercharger kit in the future and mainly just gonna focus on tracking, any advice or tips on that? Thank you!
@@mattymatte6289 do u track your car frequently? Because man, 6000 miles is extremely premature. The warrant is like 50000, so you'll pretty much get a free set of tires lol
@@22chachalaca the warranty on tires is essentially impossible to redeem. The terms and conditions are long and nearly impossible to abide by. Never tracked the car, yet. 🤷
Random question. Whats the coldest temperature you would run summer tires at? There’s only a few days of the year here in Texas that get below freezing, so i was thinking of summer tires. Does it get too sketchy around the freezing point?
Depends on the compound, some ultra high performance summer/track tires will crack if you drive on them at freezing temps, others will just get hard and have less grip.
The Pilot Sport A/S 3+ is the most summer-tire-like all season I've experienced in autox by such a large margin. The A/S 4 is the same but with noticeably more grip. RE980AS and DWS06 are vague (overly squishy tread) and overheat/tear up quickly by comparison. The RE980AS has a much harsher ride with overly stiff sidewalls, too. The PS A/S has fantastic, consistent grip during the summer months (until overheated) and in the PNW cold+rain. Slides wonderfully and predictably compared to HP summer tires. SO much fun. I haven't tested it in snow.
I have supercharged my FR-S to complement the increased grip compared to the stock Primacy HP, maintaining the car's stock propensity to slide every corner
I went with 17" CrossClimate2 for my "winter" tire, wasn't sure how I felt going all the way down to 16s coming from the 18" PS4 setup. Road noise is about the same and the traction blows me away, I cannot for the life of me get the rear end to slide like I could with the PS4 😂 (assists still on for now bc i'm new to rwd lol)
Reference a 2021Charger Scat Pack with OEM Goodyear Eagle Rs-A2 tires. In your opinion, ride comfort only, which tire rides better, Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus OR Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tire? Ride over typical Michigan roads of frost heaves, expansion joints, pot holes, broken pavement which has the best ride? Thankx
I’m having a hard time deciding what tires to get. I have a turbo frs and my 245 rs4 tires are almost bald. These tires always spun a little more than I would like when boost kicked in so I’m looking to go 255. What would be the best summer tire that would last ~15k miles of daily commuting while still offering maximum grip. My budget is ~$280 a tire!!
I’ve enjoyed Michelin Pilot SuperSports on my ND Miata. Lots of grip but can still lose it in a predictable, progressive way if you want. The inner 4/5 of the tire is designed for the wet, the outside 1/5 for dry, making it great for a daily driver.
Tire compound is much more important than section width for overall grip; going from 245 to 255 won’t be a massive difference. RS4 are already a great compromise tire for a 200TW. I think you are going to have to accept that either the grip or the tire lifespan will be less than you are looking for and choose accordingly.
I am not sure how the Michelin Primacy would have more mechanical grip than the Pilot Sport series. Sorry but it makes no sense to me and it does not align to my own experience by a long shot.
After testing a s2000 with good tires the brz and 86 was just feeling like crap . I rather would spend my money on an old s2000 than this. Its also probably more reliable. If i buy a sportscar then for the experience

Love your videos Topher! I recently got a 23 brz myself and was wondering what you thought of the mtec clutch spring? Is it a good idea to switch?
Which of the Michelin performance tyres have the longest tread wear rating?
3:35 what is that thing on the right side?
Looks like a deer
Just a warning: these tires get really loud as they wear! I am now on Conti DWS 06 Plus and I like them better.
Are the Conti DWS 06 good for performance as well? I know they aren’t summer tires, but how do they handle on more spirited driving?
I know you loving that car
I know he mentioned the size of the stock primacys but did he give us the size on those michelins he put on?
Same size as oem, 215/45r17
@@TheTopher 👍 thanks for the reply
Thank you!
I run PS A/S 4's on my 2022 Camaro SS year round. They've worked fantastic. About to be down to the wear bars after 6k miles, though!
How have you burned through these tires already????
@@22chachalaca honestly not sure. I get on it pretty frequent but I never do dead stop tire spinning launches ever
@@mattymatte6289 that's the craziest thing I've ever heard of. 6000 miles!!! Man I've gone like 60,000 miles on tires before lol!
Random question. Whats the coldest temperature you would run summer tires at? There’s only a few days of the year here in Texas that get below freezing, so i was thinking of summer tires. Does it get too sketchy around the freezing point?
Summer only tires, 40*F. Below 40 it's best for an all season. Single digits a day below, winters.
Depends on the compound, some ultra high performance summer/track tires will crack if you drive on them at freezing temps, others will just get hard and have less grip.
I cant get over the tach. It's already in circle housing just make it a normal circle gauge.
Very annoying they've tied this into the traction control. When will manufacturers learn.
Anybody else notice the dead deer?
Have you tested in the winter?
Thankx
3:35 oh deer…
its a tire noise. Michelin pilot sports all season 4 is noisy while driving it. I rather like A/S 3
btw how is ur rtv going?
BRZ is kinda like a real porsche.
That's a big "kinda"
No more RPF1’s!
You should tune this car up to 400 bhp. It will be a nice balance
Did he say it’s quieter than a ps4 😂
I am not sure how the Michelin Primacy would have more mechanical grip than the Pilot Sport series. Sorry but it makes no sense to me and it does not align to my own experience by a long shot.
Primacy is a summer tire and Pilot Sport all season 4 is…an all season. That’s why!
After testing a s2000 with good tires the brz and 86 was just feeling like crap . I rather would spend my money on an old s2000 than this. Its also probably more reliable. If i buy a sportscar then for the experience
looks like the new supra :/
Should have went 225
