Apologies for the re-upload - but the original ones were far too dark because of a colour grading issue. So I'm re-uploading them all over the next few days. Sorry if it's flooding your feed.
I've been practicing some songs and I thought my guitar sounded disgusting to the point where I actually got frustrated and mad and wouldn't want to play any more. This went on for a few days until I decided to check the tuning. Turns out my low E was tuned D# now my guitar sounds amazing and im loving it more by the minute
Honestly, you have helped me so much. Was beginning to give up on learning to play the guitar, now I'm playing chords and am able to tune the guitar! Thankyou so very much!
as basic as this is, when I first started, I had no idea how to change strings or how to tune a guitar. For 10 years I was installing strings wrong and frustrated as hell that theguitar wouldn't stay in tune. Always thought the strings were just wearing out quickly. Can't imagine how much money I wasted replacing strings that were still good. Probably could have bought a nice guitar with the savings :-)
I'm a bit of an old git who is just learning to play the guitar poorly, I have a Seagull S6 acoustic, I enjoy the challenge of detuning and then trying to retune by ear, I think its a good lesson to help newbies like me to get used to the sound of their guitar / strings, also I sometime I just detune one string and then using the two strings either side see how close I can get, after doing the complete detuning about 5-6 times I can now get fairly close - but that's on a good day. I also have a Godin Sessions electric guitar and for some reason I find that harder to play? (through a Roland Cube 20XL) Thank you Justin your vlogs are a great help.
Oh the old pitch pipes... I remember my orange set from the late seventies. Really were a terrible idea. I don't think they were even correct... but the were once modern you know. 🎶🎸😁🇦🇺
Im really good at tuning, i can here when my guitar is out of tune. I can eve tune it without a tuner but i do need a reference pitch E or A then i can just tune it up. My first guitar tuner was a Quick tune witch only had the 6 notes so if i was REALLY out i would have to use my ear a bit. Now ive also got the tc electronic polytune and a Korg pro rack tuner witch i use for my electric guitars, i use the tc or my peterson stroboclip for my acoustics. I took some practice in fact i has taking 20 years of playing and using my ears. I mostly relie on a tuner these days. I always have my phone with me so i use that i dont have a guitartuner.
I've just had my guitar since Christmas and I was struggling half the time frustrated that my guitar was so out of tune every time I played it no matter how much I tried to tuned it, + I thought the tuner was broken cuz it didn't show what sting I was acually plucking, for example: when I would pluck A it would show D. But then I realized what I was doing wrong 😅
If you are searching for the Hendrix or SRV E Flat, is there a tuner that will accomplish that?? Or is there something on a turner that indicates when you are dead on E Flat?? Thanks Justin..
Because a string goes sharp when struck and then goes flatter as it decays, I prefer to keep strumming the string as I tune it.. Tuning to a decaying note will have you playing sharp.
Tuning My father told me to learn the sound of one note, and then use your ear to listen to the harmonics and learn to zero in on the resonance, and you will hear the beat go to zero, and when you go slightly off, it will come back, That's the way I was taught, and also you can pick 2 string at the same time, and listen to them very closely and you can hear the beat sound as you get closer to being in tune, and it will zero beat out to where you hear no beat, You know your guitar is tuned perfectly, if it is out when playing a cord, you will then have a problem with the instrument that needs looking into it. I noticed when I do that when playing with others, they want me to tune there's as those tuners are close, but not perfect, But I have not encountered that tuner you have, It may prove out very good, A good ear can detect any little off frequency when cords are played,
Standard tuning for the six guitar strings is, from the lowest (thickest) to highest is: EADGBE. Here is how to remember: Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie.

My trick to tuning to D: hold down the second fret and then tune as normal (e.g. tune the thickest string to E while holding down the second fret). That way when you stop holding down the fret, the string is 2 notes lower. Here’s the musical alphabet: A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#. So for instance if you wanted to tune to C, hold down the fourth fret (because C is 4 notes lower than E). Drop D means only the thickest string is tuned down to D (the rest you leave in their standard tuning, which is called E/E standard)

My clip on tuner is dead and I haven't been able to locate the batteries, how would you tune a guitar without it. What are some apps you would recommend?
Tuners come in many forms. In the pedal chain, as a little box that listens, as clip-on, as a phone app,... A clip-on and a tuner in your pedal chain is usually the more precise device. Devices that "listen" get more interference but could work just as well for you | LievenDV | JustinGuitar Official Assistant

Probably string height adjustment on those two strings or truss rod adjustment (Not enough relief in the neck) too flat. Fret too high in some area. Any or all these things. Have some guitar tech look at it.
GUITAR TUNING! There are still too many UA-cam videos advocating guitar tuning using 5th and 7th fret natural harmonics. This is wrong, unmusical and misguided! Let’s take the low E and A guitar strings. The low E open should be tuned exactly to 82.41Hz [ref.Wiki] and the A string should vibrate at 110Hz (generally agreed concert pitch). Taking the A , the 12th fret harmonic will be 220Hz , 7th fret will 330Hz and the 5th fret harmonic will vibrate at 440Hz. Consider the low E! 12th fret harmonic will be 2x82.41= 164.82Hz 7th fret harmonic= 3x82.41Hz= 247.23Hz and 5th fret harmonic for the low E string= 4x 82.41Hz= 329.64Hz. Appreciate that 330 Hz does not equal 329.64 Hz ! 😰 Hence you will/should hear unpleasant dissonant wavering/beating. The problem exacerbates and one ends up with an out of tune guitar by using this method.😰🥺
