When We lived in New Jersey [ 30 years ago ] We loved this Place
in Cherry Hill ....
Shows you how bad corporate management can ruin great companies! 🙁
Right it seems to happen alot
I worked for 2 different Steak & Ale's back in the 80's. It was actually a great and fun place to work. Co-workers were awesome, and so was the management. Both locations were like family. It was a great feeling. Have not ran into that type of feeling since. I do wish Steak & Ale would come back. (Oh, and the French Onion Soup was to die for). YUM
Well they are bringing one back to the Dallas area.
We served the French Onion Soup at Bennigan's, too.
That "wood grain" style of the buildings is classified as Tudor which while still massively popular to this day originated in "old" Europe
Haha yea I didn't realize it's called tudor until after the video 🤦
Tudor is my favorite type of building style next to mission style
I like the wood grain and paneling.
Wattle and daub dear boy
Loved this place. I was craving the hawaiian chicken today. Have it marinating now for tomorrow 😄
Haha that's awesome!
I miss Bennigan's ! The Bennigan's we used to eat at was always busy and the food was very good.
I miss steak & ale!! That was my favorite steak house!! I remember going there for my senior prom…….it was on Murfreesboro rd in nashville, tn!! They had the best salad bar!! I really liked going there. When i moved to miami….i was happy to have one near me on Kendall Drive. The meal service was awesome! I was saddened to learn that they were going out of business. This is first restaurant that hurt me when they closed. No one has yet come close to having the same salad bar and food! I loved that place…. I now have a new place……its decent…….longhorns~. Thanks for the video……I often think of that place…..had great memories……i remember even eating at the one in Fort Worth texas……..i wasn’t a Bennigans fan……but how i miss Ye old Jolly Ox……aka Steak & ale…….i wish they would have a comeback~
Don’t quit I just subbed. I love these nostalgic clips
Can you do a Bennigan’s video????
I enjoyed Steak and Ale restaurants in the 1970s. Never had a bad meal there. The one near South Hills Village Mall in Pittsburgh has long been repurposed. Another very good steakhouse was The Red Bull Inn.
Nice. I'll have to look up the Red Bull Inn I haven't heard of it.
WAS THIS THE PLACE THAT HAD THE GROGS(DRINK IN A HUGE GLASS)?
@@lovly2cu725 I do not remember that, but it certainly could be possible; they were quite inventive.
lyrics to the song: steak and ale is a steak place, an ale place, a beef and lobster wine place, a corn on the cob kinda place......all your favorite places in one place....steak and ale
Haha that's awesome!
Awe…I went to a Bennigan’s in the 90’s in Austin…once. I wasn’t particularly impressed, however it was the place to go. Very popular…it was like an old fashioned TGI Fridays.
I miss it too! I worked at the Steak and Ale in Spartanburg SC from 1996-1998. It was THE place to go on a date. I worked the salad bar and would always bring some home when I got off work. So sad to me that the building just sits there deteriorating when it was once packed with people eating.
It is sad for sure to see this place gone it seemed like it would have been a cool place to work! Thanks for sharing I appreciate it and I love to hear the stories of these place that are no longer around!
Steak and ale sounds like the perfect place vikings like me and my friends would enjoy.
For sure. I wish this place was still around. Thanks for checking out my video!
My parents took me there when I was eight, this was back in 1989 I think. My memory is a little fuzzy but I remember it looking more like a ski lodge or cabin kind of look. I tasted my first steak there and I was hooked. I think it's the reason why I got interested in grilling to this day.
RIP, S&A and Bennigans.
We used to love the late night Happy Hour - 2/1 drinks from midnight to 2.
We'd get off work closing Bennigan's in N. Richland Hills & then run for the Steak & Ale in Fort Worth! (1979-82)
I really liked "Steak and Ale". Always great food. Always great service. Nice atmosphere. I always ordered the same thing every time, the "Steak and Bake".
Haha just came from The Unknown Cameraman's video that is one of my favorite videos of his. Probably have seen it almost a dozen times.
I can't say I remember them being something to remember but I do remember the salad bar. I remembered them being expensive from the one time I was there but after seeing some of the prices it made me remember my Grandpa was cheap 😂 The last and only time I was there was actually sometime between 1999-2001.
I would have to assume it was because the quality of the food wasn't worth the price. What else would a giant chain like that close unless someone doing something shady with money.
Oddly enough my local Steak and Ale and Bennnigans were nextdoor to each other (standalone buildings) the area both took up were replaced by a gas station and additional parking for the Target store and hotel that were in the same plaza sort of area
Nice. Yea I have always liked their videos but I don't think the post anything on their channel anymore. I'm right there with you I have seen the abandoned steak and ale video several times haha. I'm not sure I kinda figured maybe it was the quality of food/ too expensive that did them in but either way I hate to see these places go and be replaced. :/
@@WhatstheStory123 Yeah they have at least temporarily retired from exploring. It was a team of 3 people. One of the gentlemen fell ill back in 2019(or 2018) and was diagnosed with a few medical conditions that made it very difficult to explore at the time and is still having issues. The other two were a couple (which I didn't realize until reading a message on their channel) They had complications with a pregnancy and are dealing with that
@@RevolverOcelot2008 oh wow I didn't know about that, I hate to hear it. Thanks for the information. I used to really enjoy their videos!
I worked at this location!! Loved this concept!!!
Oh that's cool! That's for checking out my video I appreciate it!
There is one in Arlington texas but it’s a subway now but the building is still there and I had no idea what it was until my mom told me about this place and found that interesting and cool
I worked at that very Steak and Ale, I worked there for 5 years, Arlington Texas 👍
You could see judge Roy scream roller coaster from the Arlington steak and ale
This is fantastic content keep it up! Definitely subbed
Thank you I really appreciate it!
Steak and Ale was also very popular during the 1980s. If you never ate at Steak and Ale then you missed out. I was in my teens then but I still knew this was an amazing dining experience. Three things about Steak and Ale: 1. The atmosphere was amazing. Low lighting, nice carpet, and stain glass windows. 2. The drinks themselves were all top notch. They had only the best of bartenders. 3. ALL of the food was amazing. While they are renouned for their steaks and prime rib, the lobster tails were some of the best I have ever had. The lobster tails were far superior to Red Lobster.
Hey man, don't get mad but I am going to be doing a Steak N Ale video next month. I am not going to watch your video until after I complete mine. Doing a great job my friend.
For sure go for it!
I Love All Your Videos Bro!
Thanks man I really appreciate it!
@@WhatstheStory123 Your Welcome!
missing them in Cherry Hill, NJ! WAIT! THAT IS CHERRY HILL NJ! MIND BLOWN!
Bennigans was in Marlton, NJ.. pretty close.
There are a few Bennigans left still. There is one not too far from where I live I'm going to check it out before it's gone haha
Went to a Bennigan's the other day cause I saw one on a road trip. After that I had to learn the lore
Nice. Yea If I see one along the way I'm definitely stopping there!
That Steak and Ale that you showed on Forest Drive in Columbia SC was torn down a few months ago, but there is still one off of St. Andrews road in Columbia that id a Chinese buffet.
They were known for their great salad bar
Nice, thanks for checking out my video!
A new steak and ale opened a few weeks ago in Wyndham Burnsville Nicollet Inn looks cool!
I would probably have dug this restaurant, but I don't remember ever seeing one, even at my age. (51) As a kid, I loved Bonanza and Ponderosa steakhouses.
Ate there many times. Great food. Salad bar. Hate to see them go
Used to love this place.
Does anyone have a recipe
for the beef stew?
Can you do AOL America Online video in the future 👍📲
Oh yea that would be a good one. Nice suggestion!
Can you do a video on Ruby Tuesday's
Hey thanks for the suggestion, I can add it to my list!
I got a job at bennigans when my wife was pregnant with our first child. I worked every position including bartender... Sometimes all in the same day. My manager is literally loved me. One of them was gay and the funniest thing I remember him saying is "Curtis if you weren't straight I'd marry your ass" 😂😂😂. I was JUST about to be trained for management. Which was huge because my son was Just born. This was 2008. If you know the story of bennigan's and how they closed in 2008... Imagine for a second how it felt knowing you had a newborn baby and you were about to become a manager of a restaurant and going into work. But the doors are locked and there's a sign on the door that says this location has been closed... It f****** kills me the corporations do that to people without any warning. If I just had a baby, imagine how many of my co-workers were probably going through worse...
Thanks for sharing your story! I agree it is sad that corporate America is the way it is, it's sad to say but there doesn't seem to be any loyalty to their employees now days.
Please do don pablos the rise and fall
I have had a few people request this I might have to make that video soon!
Video is up now!
When I first moved to place I live right now this was the big time steak place supposedly so great I honestly never found it that great it was adequate but I never found it unbelievable as far as a steak place I had better steak from where I was from
I say that because everyone bragged on how great it was I mean I liked it but I wouldn't say it was great
Yea I have heard some mixed reviews about the food there. I never got to experience it unfortunately there wasn't any in my area.
i hear they're trying to make a comeback and dang it... i think they'll work but they need to keep that old english look
I've eaten at Steak and Ale many times in the 70s and 80s and never liked their steaks. I like a firm steak. Their steaks were mushy, like they were beaten with a hammer. Yuck! Give me a Sizzler anytime.
didnt occur to you to tell us WHY that chain failed
@user-ll9zd2dh6h I just give the details most of my viewer are bright enough to make their own conclusions, there are often several reasons.
