Fun probably-not-true theory time: The Long Song was chosen at the Rings of Ahkaten, not to appease/quell the Parasite God but as an attempt to support/relay as message to the Doctor. His actions have taken the name "Doctor" to translate as "Warrior" in many languages; he asked to be a Warrior for the Time War; he could be the Warrior they refer to in the song. If the Queen of Years knows all the stories to tell the God; who's to say she isn't aware of the survival of Gallifrey? It already happens in 11's timeline, but he doesn't remember. Something like that is bound to seep out into the universe somehow. The song, in his time of need, could have been made and performed to try and help the Doctor remember. Remember that he can "wake up" from his guilt, and to search for the lives that he saved. Just a theory, but I like the thought.
Listening to this again after watching The Night of the Doctor, I was suddenly struck by the realization that this song is eluding to Hurt's Doctor. "Rest now, my *Warrior*." Moffat and Gold, you geniuses.
everytime there is a chorus in Doctor Who, its an OVERWHELMING song, Old Rugged Cross from "Grimlock", the "Song of Freedom" from "planet of the Oods" and this one, they all managed to hit the spot that make us all emotional and warm inside.
It's always like this though. They 1st hate the new guy, then they like them, then they adore him. The fandom regeneration cycle. I mildily didn't care much for Matt at first, but I grew to love him like all other Doctor's that pass through the TARDIS doors. It's always been that way for as long as I can remember Miss you Matt, hope you make another appearance in the future. ;) Like this song.
As someone who started with Smith and then went back to Eccleston and Tennant, I was fairly skeptical of Capaldi at first, but I've been very pleasantly surprised and he's been the doctor to grow on me the quickest except for Smith.
Timihr Capaldi is awesome. I was hoping that he would stick around for a long while and not be a 1-year wonder like Eccleston was. Though I understand why Eccleston left, I was rather peeved that he did before many could grow to know his Doctor. I mean, their are many fans that like 9th and would like to see more of his Doctor *points at herself* ;) I mean, wouldn't you want to see more of 9th? I know I do.

Raphael Floresta I know why he left. He had a bad clash with 3 of the top heads of the show. Apparently something they were doing irked him so, so he left. Though I live in hope that he will put differences aside in the future for at least a cameo. It would be nice to see his Doctor again.
10 says he lived too long. Poor 11 he will probably do anything can do avoid regenerating. He's been 11 for too long now, he's becoming fully infused to him and will be deadly within it self to uproot that. And 12 will suffer from that. Because 11's soul, just 11 will haunt him, long then 10 did. The nightmares and agh feels
Finally, found the full song. It's so emotional because the song wasn't directed at the "parasite" sun, but rather at the Doctor. His 900-year song has been a long one, But as an Ood once indicated to us... all songs will eventually come to an end. Nevertheless his story, his legacy... the stuff of legends, it lives on in our hearts.
I swear, if some of these songs or variations of aren't played during Eleven's regeneration or Clara's departure, I'm going to be very disappointed because they're SO MOVING, it's insane!
Never forget.... your time as the doctor Matt will always be remembered just as well as David's time. We will remember all the times you made the audience laugh. I know not everyone watches Doctor Who, and its not my place to say that they should. but they don't know what they're missing. This show has been going for fifty years not for any reason but that it still connects with its fanbase, that the Doctor seems more human than some actual human characters we see. It was never about anything else. If the Doctor was unidentifiable and without emotion, only then would people have called him "alien". He fears death and faces it courageously repeatedly.
One of the best scenes of Matt Smith's era, so powerful, and this with the speech is beautiful :D Love it, Murray Gold is a genius. And the episode The Rings of Akhatan is great too
Considering what's apparently happening at Christmas, this song would be damn appropriate for 11's death... I was against it being used at first with it perhaps being too 10th Doctor-y, but knowing what's going to happen, everything 11 shall lose, if this music, or a variation of it, doesn't play, it will be a great shame and a missed opportunity.

I know it was late in his run but this episode is when I really honestly accepted 11. This song gives me shivers, it's so beautiful.
Just listening to this song makes me cry, I honestly think it perfectly captures the entire spirit of the show.
